GOD I LOVE THIS SERIES Oku made Great use of CG in his Art which really stood out from other Seinen titles while still maintaining his Simplistic and Realistic Digital Artstyle compared to his first series Hen
I love the silent terror of the alien depiction in Gantz. This is the only manga I've read that genuinely unnerved me by the monsters they fight. They're competent, over-powered and smart. The closest thing I can think of is the cockroaches from Terra Formars but they get old fast because they all look the same. Gantz however made me creeped out by Greek statues. Also, the fact that we know who they are and where they come from doesn't make them any less distant and cold unlike most creature in horror that loses their effectiveness by the explanation of where they come from. Basically, a very good example of cosmic horror.
Hey! I'm a year late but it shouldn't matter. You NEED to read Blame!. I'd argue it creates silent terror better than Gantz does, and I think you'd really enjoy it. It's similar to Gantz in that you're venturing into the unknown, and it uses size perspective to really exaggerate strength differences. I won't spoil it for you, have fun!
I love Gantz. Every time I watch a video about it I feel compelled to re read it. Last time I read the whole thing in two days. I don’t think I’ll ever get bored of reading it.
gantz is probably the only thing that got someone who is all anime anti manga into manga, i will never forget the impact it had in its story telling, it’s so enjoyable that sometimes i wish i can erase my memory so i can enjoy it fresh again 😂
Another detail I love about the evolution of Gantz is that how it the author went from baby faces to more mature and realistic ones. It kinda bugged me how the characters and MC could sometimes resemble infants but thankfully that changed a lot as the series moved forward especially in Inuyashiki.
The mech design is one of my favorites in science fiction, a huge bunch of cable and led lights hard to describe, the foot panel is damn awesome and it was a bless to see it in full CGI on Gantz:O🗿👌🏻
Just seeing those panels from the 100 Point Alien arc for the first time in years sent a chill down my spine. That arc was just absolutely bonkers. It was the highlight of the series for me.
