This Advanced Lathe Tips & Tricks Webinar continues where our Getting Started in Mastercam Lathe project left off. Learn best practices managing tools, part handling operations, and advanced editing of toolpaths to tweak the final finish on specific faces. Check out the full webinar or skip to a specific topic using the links below.
The Pick-Off Cut-Off routine automates all of the part-handling operations necessary to cut parts from a long single bar of material. The routine manages clamping of jaws, advancing of material, stock material definition, and spindle movement. Depending on the capabilities of the machine and the type of stock, select the routine that matches your needs. When a cutoff is required, define the cutoff width or select a tool and the part cut-off toolpath is included. A wide range of options exist for handling parts inside your lathe.

Hi. I've just started programming parts for swiss machines. My dealer tells me that I have to start all my programs that have pick-offs with a stock advance before I program my operations. I noticed that you did not do that. Are stick advances necessary if doing a POCO?

That is correct, for Swiss a stock advance is needed before all operations. Since this video is focused on standard lathe it was not required here. You can find additional information about Swiss here: ua-cam.com/video/eg208LMwgQM/v-deo.html

Another tip .... before doing POCO toolpath.... Do a "file save as" "aftercutoff" .... Why? you ask? I have had Mastercam corrupt the file during POCO generation to the point where I could not regen main spindle toolpaths. after POCO.
