The draw of nurgle to me is the focus on rebirth; yes all things die, but from their death they will fertilize other things to be born; he is both the god of life and death in that paired sense. I’ve heard him described as the god of stagnation, but it’s only stagnation in a big picture way. The circle of life and death is eternal, and the cycle of growth and decay and then growth again will never end, but on an individual level it’s not that he wants his followers to be hopeless and give up on having good lives because “what’s the point, things will never get better”, they just accept that everything in existence is a cycle, sometimes things are better and sometimes they’re worse, and they can embrace the fact that all of them are part of that cycle, none more or less important or special in the grand scheme than another. The birth and growth until death and rot of one human is no more or less valid than that of a star, and you should live your life to the fullest while it lasts, while taking solace in the knowledge that while you individually are just a speck, that’s there and gone in the blink of an eye, you’re a part of the natural cycle of the universe, and what you are will be never not be reborn into something new (ashes to ashes, dust to dust, (maybe it could be compared to nihilism?)). I know that’s quite rambley lol but I’d love to hear people’s thoughts.
Its also that thw chaos gods originally started off as base concepts idk what the current lore is but i remember in the past they generally had arguably genuinely very acceptable ideas (khorne being a god of honour comes to an example) essentially my point is that even the chaos gods have been corrupted from their origin, a showoff of how corrupted the materium is, as all the warp is is a reflection of it
This is why he's likely the kindest of the Chaos gods. Khornites will juat kill you, Tzeentchians will just stab you when you turn your back, and Slaaneshi will drain you of it all. Nurglites welcome all as family. He's the Inevitable, for all things one day die. That's why he's Grandfather. Death may have been perverted, but he still does his job.
Probably one of the nicer Chaos Gods out there to worship. Objectively terrifying and disgusting, but subjectively you won't even notice. No pain, no negative perception of your own decay.
Also doesn't just kill or main his own followers just because. If you worship the Grandfather, the worst you'll get is some diseases and parasites you can't feel and don't mind.
It is my personal belief that there is still pain but it becomes so monumentally terrible thanks to the his blessings that it all cancels out ending in perpetual numbness. The nerves just wither away.
You completely left out the fact that nurgle removes all pain form those who devote themselves to him. His devotees never feel pain again, so decaying, dying and being reborn into a new form are all painless.
My favorite depiction of Nurgle is one I thought of for a Great Crusade-era rpg campaign I ran. It may not be original, but I hadn't ever seen this before, but I presented him as this lanky, pot-bellied backwater Louisiana bayou type. His home was one of those run-down wooden houses on stilts in a watery swamp surrounded by dark wetland trees.
From what i remember reading from the codexes, plague bearers are humans who succumb to nurgles rot without accepting nurgle before death, and get reborn in nugles garden as plague bearers and keep getting reborn forever....demon prince of nurgle however is just a human or being that fully accepts nurgles rot till the end and embraces his gift, and gets elevated in return...because of his themes of life, death, and acceptance, becoming a demon prince of nurgle is possibly the easiest source of power to gain from a chaos god if you can endure the suffering and love nurgle unconditionally...
Also, I quite like your shift to WH40K lore overall. It's obviously a universe you love and want to share. I've been visiting it quite a bit lately, and if I had to say, I'd say the Sisters of Battle are the most fascinating part of the lore. No genetic modifications, just pure training and faith. Plenty of chaos-corrupted Space Marines, but just one Sister of Battle, and that was after years of torture. I would love to see a video exploring them.
Despite everything, Nurgle is the kindest Chaos God. Yes, you may get sick with his plagues, but that means you have jooned his family and hes happy. He calls his followers and daemons his children and grandchildren, and the whole idea that he wants folks to survive his plagues and influence means he's benevolent in some degree. Of all the corrupted concepts, Nurgle is the one who is likely the "least" corrupted- his domain was always just the cycle of life and all. He just wants people to be hapoy and accept the hands theyve been dealt. He welcomes all, accepts all, and enjoys all. Thats why he's Grandpa, for even when you die, he'll be there to help you on to the next part.
Let's be honest, if we ever became a servant of a chaos god, it most likely would be nurgle. The guy is a personification of lazyness, stagnancy and decay. But he is jolly about it, he balling, he says it is what it is and spreads joy and sickness. You're not a tzeentchian, you hate studying, you're not a khornite, you're scared of getting punched in the face, you're not a slaaneshi, you've never know another person's intimate touch, but you've definitely skipped shower while not feeling it that one night.
I like learning about things and get caught in my own overthinking and planning all the time Got me there Maybe you haven't One shower isn't anymore Nurgle than jerking it once makes you Slaanesh
@@LucaUmbriel My whole comment was an exaggerated joke based on absurd generalization, but knock yourself out arguing with yourself. Funny how the slaaneshi part got to you.
Awesome video I love learning about 40k I agree Nurgle is probably the safest Chaos God to worship, although knowing myself I’m sure I would fall to Slaneesh influence immediately if I got transported to 40k
Somewhere at the intersection of Nurgle's sprawling garden and Slaanesh's stately court, there's a tiny squishy indestructible ball of fascinatingly repellent goo, inside which is the one and only place in the entire warhammer universe which is a nice place where people can live happily ever after in peace and contentment. But of course, the gross perverts who run the place can't very well let anyone else get in and mess it up, hence the indestructible barrier surrounding it.
Interesting that chaos gods (given their names) actively act against their own interests sometimes, Nugle is all about stagnation, yet being convinced to join him is a change likely foreseen and cataloged by xeentch. That might be a bad example, not sure.
@@VectorGhostyou should put that pistol on maintenance, you might not even know what it had been through, especially the barrel. Unless you wanted the barrel to blow up in front of you.
A few years back I trolled some mormon missionaries by telling them I worshiped Nurgle. Considering the myriad of minor infections and the fact Im one of the few people I know not to get covid Im starting to wonder if that was a joke or not.
I would argue that all chaos gods embody their own sense of contradiction. Khorne is a god of murder and bloodshed yet a god of honour. Tzeentch is a god of change and all things undetermined but a god of fate. Slaanesh is a good of reckless excess but also self defined desire. It's what makes them all so much fun in my opinion
I once heard someone describe Nurgle as the voice that says "Not going to therapy is self-care actually." I think that sums up how Nurgle offers comfort in accepting disease (physical or mental) instead of the uncomfortable process of trying to get better.
It’s either Khorne or Nurgle for me, if ever I go for Chaos. Pain simply pisses me off more and therefore makes me stronger or it simply does nothing at all as my nervous system turns into tumbleweed.

Never been huge into 40k, but Nurgle drew me in. What an interesting and unique idea for an Eldridge entity whos shockingly wholesome. Ill say tho, it says a lot about 40k that the most wholesome charscter is the god of decay and disease.
I once saw a short about how that ever since Guilliman used the Emperors sword to destroy a part of Nurgles garden during the Plague War, Papa Nurgle hasn't been able to get a goodnight sleep.
I like the guardsman who got infected and slowly corrupted by Nurgle. The just noticed that they stopped being in pain and relaxed. They caught a look at themselves in the mirror and were shocked but weren't worried, just a bit grossed out. The ended up on a battlefield and saw 2 of their friends and tried to run up to them to say hello and that he missed them. He was surprised when they didn't greet him and started shooting him.
I love papa Nurgle he's so sweet, my personal favorite deamons of Nurgle are the beasts of Nurgle. They're giant disgusting slugs covered in mucus with tentacles coming out of their head. They have the mentality of a happy puppy and see mortals as new friends They want to play with. However when they give their new friends a hug the mucus causes the mortals skin to decay and fall off, kinda like that scene from saw 6. The beasts get sad their new friends don't want to play with them anymore when this happens.
What if Nurgle already suceed and his ultimate disease is already in world - and it's entropy itself. As in Warp there is no time - it's possible that ultimate disease transcendents time and space.
I was super ready to dislike that, thinking it was a lame joke about covid. But entropy itself, that's kinda brilliant. (And since I did bring up the coof, Nurgle governs acceptance, and people were mostly very accepting of lockdowns, instead of experiencing a rage that Khorne himself would envy at the very idea.)
Quick question: so do the chaos gods live in a physical location? So, they exist in the immateriam, which has no physical form, just chaotic energy. But the chaos gods have physical descriptions, and have physicial descriptions of their domain (nurgles domain has rotten fields everywhere, dead/rotting fauna everywhere, nurgle lives in a mansion etc.). So do they "live" in real space? Could someone find their location? Or do they still exist in the warp?
If nothing is really permanent(not even the universe), doesn't that concept make nurgles the God of chaos gods? He's the ultimate chaos that'll come for anything and everything. Love how he's nonchalant and jovial.
I'm sure it's mentioned in the video or another comment but I think the most insidious thing about nurgle and the other gods is that even just wishing to get better from cancer, or hoping for a promotion at work, or wanting to bone your wife, or watching ufc is enough to feed the gods. You don't have to be a direct worshipper and can still give them power.
Personally , I think the "joy" nurgle followers feel, isn't the happy feelings one have when you are really glad about something, but rather something similar to the feeling of acceptance people who have decided to kill themselves have, like nothing matters anymore so everything is just dandy.
Isha could make a neat new faction in her own right, as essentially a cross between Nurgle and Slaanesh. The latter is beautiful outside but monstrous within, while Nurgle is visually disgusting but relatively friendly and benevolent, by Chaos standards. The mingling of their influences on Isha could create an entity which is pleasant and beautiful inside and out, to defy the horrific nature of both her "parents".
Something to bear in mind is that almost no mortals can survive any of Nurgle's blessings long enough to ask him for salvation. The majority of us would decay rapidly and at best become mindless zombies. If you somehow survive with a bit of your mind intact you better pray that you maintain constant contact with the warp. If you ever lose your bridge to Nurgle you'll pretty much turn to mush.
It sounds to me like Nurgle also incorporates parts of stoicism into his philosophy. Especially the acceptance of how the world is and not letting the ills of the world affect you.
“It is what it is” manifested into a god
"Here, have some soup. You'll feel better in no time."

Well we call him pappa nurgle for a reason
Hope there'll be three more of these.
Hopefully 4 more. ;)
Whoa
I was super ready to dislike that, thinking it was a lame joke about covid. But entropy itself, that's kinda brilliant. (And since I did bring up the coof, Nurgle governs acceptance, and people were mostly very accepting of lockdowns, instead of experiencing a rage that Khorne himself would envy at the very idea.)
4:56 this is why the night lords are all the gods/=non.
=except life is bad=yes.
=break out of the cycle=yes/get cursed by nurgle when leaveing.
Of course this is uploaded when I have some sorta flu, Praise Papa Nurgle!
Yeessss please cover all the gods, that's the most fascinating part!
If nothing is really permanent(not even the universe), doesn't that concept make nurgles the God of chaos gods? He's the ultimate chaos that'll come for anything and everything.
Love how he's nonchalant and jovial.
Why do I imagine Nurgle with a Cajun accent?
Ah thank god. I needed something good to watch while I had dinner and took a break from revising my folio
"perfect, a new TES update to watch while i eat breakfast. i wonder what-" "nvm, i'll save this one for after i eat."
I'm glad you connected with the Warhammer 40K lore of the SCP standards thinks man.
Get the flamer, the heavy flamer
I almost would buy an official Disney/Marvel/Warhammer branded Nurgling plushie.
I wonder if The Emperor, Cegorach, Ynnead and Tau’va are the Gods of Order?
Going into work at the mental health facility and lis6ening to this before feels oddly relatable.
Love the 40k content! Nurgle bless you, I should have known you were a heretic through and through. As a filthy xenos player I applaud you.
