It’s the main background that the blog column in the center sits on top of.I cannot figure out how to remove it and it looks awful! What am I missing? How about you upload the video on UA-cam first, then the subtitle will be generated automatically. You would then Embed the UA-cam video on your Blogger blog.

There really isn't any set rule about the right order to follow. You can customize a Template in any order that suits the particular need, or situation.

It won't affect your Adsense Ads. But if you don't see the Ads after changing the theme,... Just copy the Adsense code snippet from your Adsense account, and paste it under the new theme section (especially if you're going to be using Auto Ads).
I appreciate how patient you were explaining everything. Most tutorials assume you know what page to even be on to start the process
