Nick Morant was a corporate photographer for Canadian Pacific who documented the railway on company assignment for many years through the late steam and early diesel era. He took several noteworthy and historically significant photos of CP trains at this S-curve just east of Lake Louise, Alberta, with the mountains of the Continental Divide in Banff National Park rising above the rails. Mr. Morant was one of a kind. This video evokes his best work.
@@der.optimist9720 Bitte schoen. The Trans-Canada Highway (mostly a two-lane single-carriageway road that in most places is definitely NOT an Autobahn) runs very close to the CPR for most of its run across the country from Toronto to Vancouver. The particular site here (Morant's Curve) is on the old Highway 1A, the scenic route from Banff to Lake Louise. (The newer TCH is on the other side of the Bow River which you see in the video.) In Lake Louise the 1A road rejoins the TCH and climbs up beside the railway over Kicking Horse Pass. From there the road and the railway are very close together all through the mountains to the end of the line in Vancouver. If you visit Canada you should drive the Icefields Parkway from Lake Louise to Jasper as a side trip.
Somehow you manage to capture all the squeaks. I'm sure these blue toothed hearing aids are damaging my hearing ;) Love the sound of tail end loci approaching through my left ear and heading out through the centre of both following the curves. Great video as usual.
