@@boltzmannbrayn Not knowing anything about her coincided with her peak in the polls. The more they got to know her the lower she sank. Simple extrapolation suggests that an extra few months would have led to an even *bigger* landslide for the Republicans.
She didn't even win a primary.. she is one of the most unqualified candidates EVER. It's a no-brainer. American smelled something was fishy.. they clearly know what garbage smells like.. no pun intended.
What I’m hearing is, “We gotta figure out how to get them to listen to us.” That, instead of “We gotta learn how to listen to them.” I think that there is part of the problem.
This. Exactly this. If Democrats spend the next four years trying to find another way to say the same thing to the same people , they will end up with the same result. Somewhere along the way, the party stopped being seen by those on the lowest incomes with the biggest struggles as their natural representatives. Those people were less interesting to the party than the culture wars, a blind embrace of immigration and the safety of the middle classes. When they did speak to those struggling in small towns across America it either came across as a lecture on values, or as gas lighting about how the economy is actually great now if only they would take the politician's word for it and not their own experience of trying to buy food and other goods.
First time listening to you guys, I have to say, you are all very smart but your heads are so up your own asses you’re missing the forest for the trees. The hurdles you guys are doing to not face how the Democratic Party failed is, quite frankly, impressive.
@NOTSparkyPants That's because they were up to their eyeballs in pushing out Biden and forcing Harris on people. The last thing etched on my brain when I turned my back and walked away was their gloating faces. They didn't care that when they pushed that unqualified, sell out on us, no one wanted her and that they demoralized enormous numbers of people by doing that. They were too busy congratulating themselves for their betrayal of party and country. They strong armed the only real choice people had out of running and now they are busy playing victim and blaming everyone but themselves. Beyond obnoxious. Can't even look at them little long listen to their drivel.
Or that they put up the worst possible candidate at the worst possible time. I'm a 62 Yr old left leaning Brit so I have skin in this game given Europe is now in extreme danger. I tried to listen to Kamala but that whining nasal condescending voice saying 'I bring joy joy joy' but had to switch her off. How anyone thought she won the presidential debate is beyond me. Both were equally awful.
@@TinaBUTCHER-ph1ph Thankyou. People need to start hitting these people hard with reality. Their thinking is so bizarre at this point, they are outright delusional. As a 60-year-old Black woman who has voted and often volunteered in every election since 1983, I’m taking a rest. This is the first time in my adult life that I felt heartbroken with clarity. I had never thought that the work I was doing didn’t matter until now. I will rest, protect myself, stay alert, and perhaps in two years I’ll find my fight again, but for now, I’m tired.
Thank you for everything you've done over the years - it's on us younger people to take things up now. Especially since this election is a clear signal that we're not going to be able to just 'outlive' this struggle.
Thanks for sharing your feelings. Everyone needs a break right now. An old timer like you knows that politics is like the tide, it rises and falls, just takes time. More importantly we have to better educate our children. Our schools are not preparing people for the complex world they have to enter. We have to raise educational standards, to make more intelligent citizens. Face it we can't even get children to turn their phones off in school, and instead come up with all sorts of useless solutions, pouches etc.
The mental gymnastic these clearly intelligent guys are going through to avoid assigning any blame to any part of the Democrats current philosophy and message is quite impressive. While certain Democrats remain incapable of even the slightest course correction, they’ll continue to lose.
They are bending over backwards to not take a single ounce of responsibility! “We’re too smart for voters”, “we’re too sophisticated for voters”, “Trump made ‘some’ gains”…these guys cannot be taken seriously going forward. Also, blaming latinos? Good luck with that.
basically. completely ignoring the fact that no one, absolutely no one, liked or remember Kamala existed until July of this year. It's fascinating to watch these people gaslight themselves.
I ran for office because of you guys. I ran in a state legislative seat. I was against a 22 year Republican incumbent. I have no political experience but a lot of great ideas and policies. I won my primary in a landslide and had so many voters particularly excited about me and my campaign. After all that, I ended up losing. Yesterday/today have been some of the worst days of my life. But because of PSA, I found my calling. At the moment it doesn’t feel like it is because I lost my race, but I’m not giving up. And supporters of mine have asked me to not give up. The thing I’ve been grappling with the last 24 hours is how so many fellow Americans voted against good. My heart and soul are too invested in politics and the progressive movement to back down now. So PSA guys, you made a difference in my life. You got me to run, and you inspired me and I did something I never imagined I could do. And I in turn inspired many other people. All my supporters believe in my platform and those people still exist. We are still out there. I don’t know what the hell comes next but I know I can count on having crooked to get me through. I really hoped to give you all better news, but this heartfelt thank you will have to do. 🩵
@@melody-13 'How did so many people vote against good?' Well they touched on this a bit in the video: there were some big factors that made the difference: e.g. "the economy. I am having a harder time now than years ago" Not saying that this works as an argument for every rep voter but there are folk who _genuinely_ believe a rep presidency will 'be better for the economy'. It's not necessarily "I looked at all those other things like women's rights or saving the ecosystem and just didn't care.....because I oppose good" but more "I think this will have [X] direct benefits for me".
@marvellis6762 It took away the only real choice people had and put Trump in power. I'd say I hope they learned something, but you can tell they haven't learned a thing. Playing the victims and insulting the public for responding to what they did. I don't know why I'm bothering to write anything here, they erase all my comments and I see other comments disappearing that are critical. They'll have to keep erasing them because no end to the people fed up with them and I'll have to condemn their foolishness elsewhere because they frustrate and enrage me.
Harris was VP for 3.5 years and did not convince us that she had the abilities to handle the border or any other domestic issues. With all the world problems and wars, 75million Americans clearly did not believe she had the ability to handle foreign matters and be "commander in chief". You can only fake it for so long.
You guys had Bernie in 2016 and 2020 and couldn't dare to let him lead. You had the anticorruption anti-money-in-politics guy who could talk to the people and effortlessly convey to them that he is truly on their side. You missed the chance, twice.
@@AF-gd7fhPeople moved right on the immigration, police, and cultural issues. But Economics is a mixed bag. People complain about housing, medical costs, and groceries and they think high tariffs and mass deportation would accomplish that?
Think of it as less like a campaign for a European nation but as a campaign for leading the entire European Union as a whole as the population and size is much more comparable. Campaigns at the state level in the US are more comparable to many European nations as a whole.
"We're gonna do our best to sort through the information that's available" which comes 90 seconds after "Harris ran an incredible campaign." Sorry guys. You still haven't diagnosed the problem.
My favorite are the ones that think voting for billionaires somehow shakes things up. Politics has been the wealthy paying off lobbyists to grease the palms of politicians forever. This is literally just getting rid of the middle men and putting the wealthy at the wheel.
Maybe the problem wasn’t the time Harris had to campaign but Harris herself?? This really isn’t difficult to understand. Harris’ record wasn’t great-she won her California AG seat in a close election, never won a primary, and was highly disliked by the public as VP. Who thinks that kind of resume appeals to the general public?
Here’s an idea: bring disgruntled democrats on your podcast and genuinely listen to them and their grievances, without trying to correct them at every turn.
Yeah, the Pod during the election felt to me like an establishment echo chamber, and their sudden U-turn on Biden after the debate was proof that they're insulating themselves with condescending phrases like "resistance libs." Tim Walz was great for the folksy edge, and celebrities are whatever, but the fact that Katie Porter gave up her Congress seat to run for Senate and lost should have been a moment for the Harris campaign to bring her in. Put her on stage for the people who want to hear concrete policies about economic improvement. I guess the problem would be that Porter's vision would scare away donors and apparently raising a billion dollars to run the campaign is more important than winning it.
It amazes me how disconnected this podcast is with the economic reality of everyday americans. For years the Biden administration has been parroting the lines of the public "thinking" it's a bad economy when it "isn't". The poll of "wrong track" doesn't capture the direness of the economic situation for many. Biden and Kamala did not speak to the economic frustration and anger people experience. Younger generations are not able to afford rent, let alone own a home or start a family. I think a lot of voters would forgive inflation if there seemed to be a general understanding from the dems of the seriousness of economic inequality. Bernie ignited so many supporters, and now dems are losing young men to Trump...
Sure but Harris had a plan for first time home buyers and had a point about not letting corporations buy our houses. She didn't talk about it enough, she DID apply to those people. Or people jsut don't fucking care idk
Their financial situation isn't going to get better. Trump's tariffs will drive prices even higher. Corporate greed is what's killing us. Trump's gonna get rid of the ACA, so 20-30 million people will be without healthcare insurance. Those without healthcare insurance will go bankrupt with a 3 day hospitalization
This is the biggest issue to me but unlike most people, I don't see Trump making it any easier. I'm fortunate that my rent has pretty much stayed the same since I moved here 7yrs ago. It would be a lot harder if I had to find somewhere else.
As an independent, my key takeaway from this podcast is how out of touch they are (and by extension the messaging of the Democratic Party). You hit the nail on the head regarding the economic situation, as everyday goods have risen 40%, yet COVID was over 2 years ago. Also, in my opinion, Harris wasn’t a compelling candidate for a lot of undecided voters. For a lot of people that I have spoken to, one of their biggest gripes about Harris was that she didn’t do enough to differentiate herself from the Biden administration. This isn’t to mention the classism in the rhetoric by young members on the left, as “uneducated” (working class, in reality) voters were abandoned and even demonized. I also think that Democrats rely too heavily on identity politics, and it is important to realize that no amount of social policy will promote economic recovery. I am from Michigan, where Harris lost by about 100-150k votes. In Michigan, a large proportion of the Muslim community (over 300k people) viewed Harris as an extension of the Pro-Israel policies of the Biden administration, and she lost the state because of it imo. Again you are right imo to mention Bernie, as his analysis on the election seemed to be true regarding the weaknesses of the Democratic Party.
I think Tommy is totally right that the Democratic Party is no longer the party of the working class. It’s become the party of highly educated, liberal businessmen. We need to start from ground zero.
The problem I think you can't fix because it means overhauling your entire system- is most definitely that you have an only 2 party election. That's why people have to choose one or other and when gun is held to the head they always go with what they know. If there were even 4 well known parties with representation in the senate based on proportional votes of those parties.
The Democrats represent the status quo and most people are unhappy with that. Next time they might try to portray themselves as populist outsiders, but it’s difficult to tell at this point whether or not there will be a legitimate election held in 2028.
Her short campaign was a blessing. She isnt substantive enough to endure a traditional campaign. She is an empty pantsuit. The longer you know her, the less likeable she is.
@karleells6540 sadly, a lot of them voted for abortion on demand. Also, a lot voted because of her demographics. Racism worsened this past decade, the fruit of divisive politics
If democrats had listened to bernie 8 years ago, we wouldn't be in this mess now. He was speaking to peoples concerns about corruption and distrust in institutions at the same time as trump was but the DNC told him to go sit in the corner and now we're COOKED.
The fact that this has only 6 likes says it all.. these guys mentioned Bernie but are definitely seeing through the Obama lense. That was when the democrats had the momentum and enthusiasm because if felt like people were being HEARD.. the establishment democrats doesn't hear them see them or speak to their needs and concerns. They were undermined in the 11th hour last election (which is never addressed) and many have either dropped out of paying attention to politics or started to listen to the other side. Couple those points with no outlets that speak to these points on a layman's level and you get a blowout. Trumps people mislead and lie, but they speak to issue people are having even with NO plan to deal with them.
I agree, LP. That election could have been -- should have been -- Bernie's to win but for the Clinton mafia and Debbie Wasserman Schulz (then chair of national Dems). They bypassed the rules, conspiring to rig the prez nomination for Queen Hillary. Even Obama piled on: remember when Bernie was asked to "visit" the White House? Timing does count. The contest between a man of character and ideas (Bernie) squared off against a cynical pseudo-rich (non)reality show host without any ideas (tRump) -- would have gone well for Dems in 2016 I M H O. (The Dem pros obviously thought otherwise.) Covid alone should have eliminated tRump now, in 2024. I guess (as a '55 white BB) that America really has a racist, less-than-intelligent populace. Thanks for your observation, LP. `
So true! Both Bernie and Trump were populist candidates. The DNC tossed Bernie out in favor of the establishment candidate Hillary. That’s the event that changed my vote from the democrat party.

There is time for talk and there are times to just push together. If the democrats wasted months fighting amongst themselves even more people would have dropped them.
Amen. This is a catastrophic failure of the DNC. They need to clean house and go with the most viable candidate. Not the one who has "earned it" within the inner circle of the Democratic party.
The country is sick of the Democrat party in general and their toxic policies. These guys make 6 maybe 7 figures a year. They don't know shit about what worries the working class.

I don’t remember an election in my lifetime where everything under the sun is blamed for the loss except for the candidate? I wonder why that is? The simple fact is, Kamala appeared robotic and inauthentic the entire campaign. She was wildly unpopular during the 2020 primary and nothing changed in 2024. She represented the worst of the left; a DEI candidate. You likely read that last sentence with offense, which is why the dems lost. Nobody wanted her as the candidate, and it has nothing to do with her race or gender. She was simply a bad candidate. There is a serious struggle on the left to look in the mirror and recognize its own faults. It’s a seriously blind arrogance.
Theo and Rogan would have been very friendly to Kamala but the campaign chose to ignore them. I have no doubt that both of those would have been friendly to her but since they cuss and spit and say uncouth things spooked the Dems. F'ing hell. The Dems actively throw people out of the party if those people are "grimy".

Believe me; I cried all night. I hate writing this down because right wingers like to belittle and laugh. But truth. My point is made by @TheLawrenceReport.
There was a question asked at the beginning of this pod. What is the reason why Trump won. I am in the 23% of black men who voted for Trump. I voted Obama twice, Hillary (when dems sat Bernie down 🤔), Biden, and now Trump. The reason why is simple. No primary, bad candidate, delay in policy positions, bad policy (IMO), 2A infringement, didn't exercise the 25th amendment years ago to remove Biden, very few interviews after not having a primary, identity politics, etc. VP Harris did not earn the vote of the American people and respectfully, that is on VP Harris. Democratic leadership would be better served to learn and converse with voters they lost (like me) than attack them, call them racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. That notion couldn't be further from the truth.

Those without healthcare insurance will go bankrupt with a 3 day hospitalization
this
This is the biggest issue to me but unlike most people, I don't see Trump making it any easier.
True
The problem I think you can't fix because it means overhauling your entire system- is most definitely that you have an only 2 party election. That's why people have to choose one or other and when gun is held to the head they always go with what they know. If there were even 4 well known parties with representation in the senate based on proportional votes of those parties.
The Democrats represent the status quo and most people are unhappy with that. Next time they might try to portray themselves as populist outsiders, but it’s difficult to tell at this point whether or not there will be a legitimate election held in 2028.
And they represent elitists... Clintons, Cheneys, celebrity endorsements seemed very out of touch.

I agree, LP. That election could have been -- should have been -- Bernie's to win but for the Clinton mafia and Debbie Wasserman Schulz (then chair of national Dems). They bypassed the rules, conspiring to rig the prez nomination for Queen Hillary.
