Strider 2 (PS1) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

- A playthrough of Capcom's 2000 arcade platformer for the Sony PlayStation, Strider 2.
Played through on the default difficulty level with no autofire enabled. I start on Stage 0, which is only available if your memory card has a clear save file on it from both Strider and Strider 2.
Random information: a nearly perfect port of the original arcade Strider comes packed in with the game, although the discs are labelled wrong - Strider is on the disc that says Strider 2 and vice versa.
This is an utterly fantastic game. It is Capcom really showing their 90s arcade chops, with (even on the slightly cut down port for the PS1) super vivid and well animated graphics and one of the best arcade soundtracks you could ever want - that Stage 1 theme is seriously about the best example anyone could want of how good chip-based music could really sound in 90s games.
The game was also originally released on the Sony ZN-2 arcade hardware, which was little more than a PlayStation with a bit more hardware muscle behind it.
It's fast, it's fairly easy, and it's really short, but there are so many secrets in obscure places that you could play it through 20 times and still not find them all. I know that I certainly missed some of them in this playthrough, but I did manage to clear the game with an "S" rank overall. I can play this again and again, it's so damn fun.
I'd recommend this to just about anyone, regardless of skill level or genre preference. It's an unforgettable experience - but it does come at a price. I got this game years ago when it was still reasonably priced, but nowadays it seems to go for upwards of $100. I'm not surprised, for how few were made and sold, but still. Ouch.

Okay, so Tomba and Klonoa are great PS1 platforming games, but I'd take Strider 2 over those any day. It''s classic gameplay gussied-up with Capcom's loudest and gaudiest 90s finery, and it's completely mindblowing.
It's easy to the point of being tedious. There's no fun without even a slight bit of difficulty.
@@DamnDealDone ok
I'm a really big fan of the 2014 Strider and it's fascinating to see and hear so many things it was influenced by in this game!
Really? Elaborate please. (Currently doing a 2nd run on Strider 2014)
them sounds just bring back so many memories
Ah, memories. Back when Capcom was cool.
StudMuffinTwelve I think capcom is still awesome
I' am shock!!!
But still not perfect, they goofed on both discs labeling, the games are on the opposite disc of where they are supposed to be.
These days though, Capcom are far, far worse. Konami is in that same boat as them. And that boat's sinking slowly.
Capcom was on fire in the 90s
Speaking of capcom and Konami, they should make a crossover between mega man and castlevania
Back again, I remember after buying it, I showed it off to an old high school buddy of mine, he was floored by the between stages artwork. He knew of Strider, but not the sequel. He had a similar moment when I played Puchi Carat off of Taito Legends 2, he loved the anime artwork, as he loves action anime as well.
Would love to see this updated where they removed the loading times between sections of a stage, and that's just nitpicking because this was original PSX and Capcom went all-out on this. It seems like true passion going into games seems to be more and more rare these days compared with what we got 20 years ago.
Paid $35 for this, but accidentally set an Ebay max bid to $1,300 (it was supposed to be $13.00, but I forgot the decimal point, whoops, could've been a nightmare). Needless to say I was a bit flabbergasted when I got home after work and see it got that high ($35), but thankfully someone didn't keep bumping the bid higher. Week later I had my copy arrive in the mail and in my hands at long last, and seeing how much the game goes for these days, 35 wasn't so bad.
Bloodreign1 Nah, that's a pretty good deal for sure
Looking back, it sure was. However I wish I had the Japanese one, there's speech between the levels, though you won't understand a thing they are saying, but it still sounds pretty cool.
I am very disappointed with the death of Hien in Strider (2014), he could be playable with his geomatrical cypher. Hope he reappear in next game
You spoil the game!
@@gochem3013 Shame of you. And i don't Care
Third Moon: Death Star
Grand Master: Emperor Palpatine
Strider Hiryu: Luke Skywalker
Wowww man! Very very veerryyy good!!!!! Congratulations! LIKE...
+Canal Fellahs by X Thanks!
Back when Capcom was at their peak. Late snes/psx days.
Gotta throw the Saturn into the mix as well, that system got a lot of nice stuff from Capcom.
Bloodreign1
Don’t forget the Dreamcast.
Gotta say Capcom really hit their peak in the PS2 era: Onimusha, Devil May Cry, RE4, RE Outbreak and Code Veronica, Godhand, Monster Hunter, Okami, Shadow of Rome, Maximo, etc....
@@ThatOldSchoolMagic Power Stone 1 and 2, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Capcom vs SNK 1 and 2, and Plasma Sword, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Cannon Spike, list goes on.
and then they died :|
This brings back old memories starting with the 1st Strider game***
Honestly, this game feel more like a Starfox 64 esc retelling of the original game's story rather then a part 2. You not only have the same Strider, Hiryu (yes, I know he's a clone in this one) fighting the master, but you've also got the return of the poo (at least, that's how this game spells it) sisters (from the end of the second level in the first game) and the bounty hunter solo. Also, the Balrog airship and the 3rd moon death star clone space station are back too. Heck, the only thing in the actually game's story (at least, that's presented to you in game) that tells you that this is a continuation is that when the Master says at the end "Could you be?! Are you that Hiryu?! The one who appeared before me almost two thousand years ago, before I took this world?! Are you going to Finish what you couldn't do back then?!". You could remove this part and the game's story would still function just fine as a sort of reboot. Ok, sure they gave you a new rival character in the form of Hien, but, since I already compared this to Starfox 64, I think that only strengthens my point. On another note, Hien to me feels like Capcom was making a statement on the US Gold Produced non canon sequel. In that game, you play as a different Strider, code named Hinjo, who wears white, but, maybe I'm reading too much into that.
This 2000 year BS is the only thing that bothers me in this otherwise great game. They could have gone a little less fantastic, like some 200 or 500 years ahead. For a 2000 years in the future, Earth is pretty much the same it was in 2048.
This looks even better than the Stider that JUST came out O_O.
Hijynx87 they're both awesome tbh
The 2014 game gives you that Ultimate Anime feel while this classic gives you that Manga feel in my opinion
This one and the original was Japan-developed. The new one released during the PS3 era was outsourced to the West.
Yes, it does look better than the new one to me, though we can all say that they both look so much better than the Sega Genesis Strider 2 which I bet Capcom doesn't even want people to know about, & also wants the people who DO know about that one forget about it's existence.
Wow this is a ps1 gem
This is the best Game ever but it could be more difficult especially Hien and the bosses.
I always wanted to use all of Hiens attack but you could just throw his Blades and not to the CrossSwordBeam and the blink slash with his swords.
IM waiting for Strider 3
I know this was 4 years ago, but I hope that you've discovered the 2014 reboot since then. It's fantastic. Not quite Strider 3, but more Strider is always welcome.
@@Emberson-9000 the reboot isn't even close to this game. it does not share the soul of the game, the athmosphere, the lore and deepth.
@@vergo1259 I quite liked it, but to each their own.
The PS3 game MOONDIVER originally supposed to be Strider 3, but Square Enix couldn't get the rights to use the Strider name. The same creator and the Strider team went over the Square Enix cause Capcom wasn't on board with Strider 3, so they got Square Enix to release it as Moon Diver. It's set 200 years after Strider 1 & 2.
Now I wanna play strider 2 again
Why isn't this a movie or at least an anime yet?
It was originally a manga actually. The games are sequels to the manga
But you're right, we need a modern anime adaptation and new games!
@@apocalypticash1242 you should play OSMAN, the same creator of Strider(it was supposed to be Strider 2, but the company didn't have the rights to the name). That game is awesome and plays the same way. Capcom later made it officially canon as a prequel.
@@ramonantoniodejuanbennett6239 I just checked and remembered that game! I forgot its name so long ago after playing it at my cousins house! It really was super fun and totally had the strider element in it
Strider 2 got great late 90's graphics. 😀👍🎮
This game deserves to be on modern systems.
Interesting mixture of 3d models with sprites. You don't see many games that look like this.
the graphic quality is so great in ps1 standard.
Best game for ever for me and you?
Japanese version is better because it has voice lines during cutscenes, especially mission briefing
There is patch or mod to add japanese voice acting in US version if I'm not mistaken
@@th0rig413There’s a hacked version that you can download for PS1 that has the Japanese voice acting added.
This is basically Castlevania, if the Belmonts or Alucard turn into into ninja 😁
Well that’s interesting to hear, I guess
How to Unlocked in Mision 0
You need to finish strider 1
Que juegazo!!!
This is a proper sequel made by Capcom
This is way much the better sequel than
The Master system and Mega drive ones
Which are made by the rubbish U.S.Gold and Tiretex 💟💟💟💟💟💟💟💟
g(old)
Strider hell now 🤣💯😈
I tabbed into another page while this video was still playing and all I heard was yahhahahahhahahaahahahahahahahahahahh as he attacked a boss lightning fast.
That sound was so obnoxious it drove me a bit crazy.
+RunaroundStar Haha yeah I agree. It's a shame the music gets buried under it, since the tunes great
You can probably turn sfx down.
lol never played mission 0 :0'
Жалко мамонта.
