  • The Parkland Burn Formula is used to calculate the amount of fluid needed after a burn. Lactated Ringer's is the most common fluid administered for burns. In this video I will use the Parkland Burn Formula to do some practice questions.
    The Parkland burn formula is:
4 mL of LR x BSA % burned x kg body weight = total amount of fluids needed 24 hours after a burn injury
The Rule of 9s is a tool used to estimate a burn's percentage of total skin. It divides the body into sections by multiples of 9%.

I'm 99% sure I had you as an instructor when I was in nursing school!! I needed a refresher on this and I was shocked to see your videos pop up! I watched a few of your vids and they're great. You've always been good at explaining topics.

you added the TBSA by writing 18+18+9+9. isn't that for 1 side of body i.e back or front. do we have to mltiply the no. 54 by 2 to get total body sufrface area...?
