@@PhilipHollowaychannel Lack of instruction? Hilarious! Worst ever. They forgot that one needs a router, above average carpentry skills and a lot of patience.
Thanks very much for this. Seeing it used for real was very helpful. We have successfully built our own bed (king size vertical murphy). What is the name of the hinge you are using to alternate the slats between lay-flat and angled?
Thanks for the great videos! I really like the idea of routing out the bedframe. I am in the middle of designing my camper layout. Just curious what to allow for in terms of the gap between the bed frame and the upright plywood. Likes like about 60-65MM. Do you happen to know?
Hey Philip, greatings from Montréal, I have looked at you 3 parts videos on this murphy bed construction and of all the mesurements you gaved us I miss one...knowing that you have grooved a 4 mm seat on the side of the matress frame what is the mesurement between the main frame and the matress frame, I already ordered my kit but it will take 3 weeks to arrive and I am in the drawing parts of the project, thanks in advance.
I am someone who has just now gotten around to this unfriendly kit. I am planning to produce it exactly as shown in this video. When fastening the kit parts to the bed frame, do the bolts fit from the inside of the bed frame? When I try to fit them from the hardware side, the bolts that come with the kit don't fit in two of the six places because the screw heads get stuck.
Yes, it’s designed not to be mortised into the Wood. I just did this for added strength as it was only going on a sheet of ply so I couldn’t have long screws connecting it.
I didn’t use the legs as I’ve use a variable legs setup as this is fitted in my van. To see the bed in use the second part is found here ua-cam.com/video/5-UdNn3XjCw/v-deo.html
What are the dimensions of the bed box? I have a kit here and I'm headed to the lumber yard. I'm guessing the mattress box should be a 2x6 and the wall box needs to be 2x12? I'm sure these springs are designed for a specific weight of the bed box. They really should have included a materials list. I dont know If I should buy 1x4 / 1x6 / or 2x6 materials?
The bed box is made of 18 ply. 230 deep by 1900x930 with a 6mm ply base. The sides are made of 18mm ply 360x360 as this is fitted in a van. Hopefully doing the follow up video tomorrow
If you mean the weight when down I would have thought 300kg as it’s designed for a double bed with two people or if you mean just the hinge section I would have thought 80kg
Sorry that I won’t be able to make a video on this as my bed is now installed. From what I remember you take the C pin out to release the two parts. Undo the tension nut. Take out the springs that you don’t need. Reattach the metal to the tension nut and tighten.. (I think I had to use a screwdriver to hold the tension while I put the nut back on)
@@PhilipHollowaychannel thanks I’m working on it. I did remove the bolt and push the plate out of the guide and everything came out. Got figure after how to put them together…. Ha ha ha! Thanks your vídeo gave me a lot of information to start. I might ask another dumb question 🙋♂️ later on.
@@wudirobert4534 I have just done a quick video as I’ve just taken my bed off. I am uploading it at the moment and should be available in the next quarter of an hour Hope this helps
Take the cover off with the small clip pin on the top. Undo the nut fully. Put a screwdriver under the metal that the bolt was connected to. Flip it off the stays. Take off how ever many springs you want then put the metal back on the stay with your screwdriver for leverage. Then do the nut back up to tension the springs.

Philip, have you done the follow up video on the Ran BB Murphy Bed Springs.
No not yet I only picked up my van on Thursday. Probably be about two weeks time. I’ve got to make the walls for the unit to fit to.

Thanks, keep at it.
Just in case you missed the second part here’s the link

Instructions? Is that what you call them? They are brutal. They missed half the stages. Thank goodness for this video.
Thanks. Great hinge just let down by lack of instructions :)

That hinge was bought as part of the slats. There’s a link in the description I love my bed setup

It is the thickness of the hinge unit. 30mm both ends

@@PhilipHollowaychannel No problem , thanks I have received my kit...
Can they be raised higher so the bed isnt so close to the floor?
Yes you can install it at any height as long as you support the bed on the opposite side to the hinge

@@PhilipHollowaychannel Thank you for your reply.
I haven't been able to get to assembly yet, so I'm still figuring out what to do with this issue.
Yes I bolted it through from the inside. I also bought some shorter M6 bolts so they didn’t fowl the mechanism
@@PhilipHollowaychannel Thanks! I'll try it.
Thank you

i don't have the tools to mortise or router it out. Will it be ok?
Yes, it’s designed not to be mortised into the Wood. I just did this for added strength as it was only going on a sheet of ply so I couldn’t have long screws connecting it.

Also the unit comes with 9 springs and as I’m only using it for a single bed I took 6 springs out and I’m only using the 3 middle springs
