Dream tour to the Seebensee. Views of a magnificent mountain world in Austria.

Zugspitze, Seebensee, Hoher Gang. A fantastic tour near Ehrwald in Austria.
Our tour to the Seebensee starts at the parking lot of the Ehrwalder Almbahn. With the mighty Zuspitz massif behind us, we head into the forest, well signposted. We leave the turn-offs to the Klettersteig and Immensteig to the left and follow the initially flat and then steeper road to an alpine meadow.
The rest of the way is characterized by dense forest. Over roots and rocks it goes to a wide gravel gully that is bypassed on the left side. The steps become larger and the path leads quickly to a viewpoint (Coburger Bank). There is at the same time the entrance to the small, stimulating climb.
Aids such as wire ropes or similar are available on this tour but a head for heights, surefootedness and experience in alpine terrain are still important. There is definitely a danger of falling.
Inexperienced hikers should better take the easy normal route from the mountain station of the Almbahn.
The climb, secured with wire ropes, leads upwards over rock and partly gravelly-sandy ground and gives a beautiful view of the Ehrwald valley basin and the Zugspitze. In many small hairpin bends and over partly high steps it goes up.
From the Seebensee lake, the route heads in the direction of the Ehrwalder Almbahn. Either on the road, or on a parallel hiking trail. Shortly before the "Koatinger Weg" both meet again. The rocky, partly loamy path leads briskly in the direction of the mountain station of the Almbahn. From there we took the cable car back down to the valley station and the starting point of our tour.
Even if the last part of the tour can by far not keep up with the ascent, the visit to the Seebensee is still a definitely worthwhile experience.
