The Soil

Hey guys, In this video I will be describing the topic The Soil.
Soil is the top layer of the Earth’s crust and is formed by weathering of the surface rocks. Weathering is a slow process by which the hard Parent rock that covers the earth’s surface is broken down into small particles. Weathering is caused by chemicals that dissolve the rock, wind, rain and animals that dig holes in soil.
Soil is a mixture of small particles of:
• Weathered rock
• Mineral salts
• Water
• Air
• Living organic matter
• Dead organic matter called humus. This is made up of decomposing remains of plants and animals. Humus gives the soil a dark colour and helps to absorb and keep water.
