Empty you suction filter flask more often because as the vacuum pull it will cause any solvents to evaporate in the flask which will reduced the efficiency o the filtration 🙂🙂 this is especially important if our making something that needs to be as dry as possible before its used (like a pigment for an oil paint 😝😝)

    • @minahraven
      @minahraven 4 роки тому

      @@El_Chompo I'm tempted to think perhaps an impurity in the distillation causing a reaction, perhaps? I don't know much about chemistry, but judging by the fact it was the same chemical composition as the 'real thing', or intended to be, but ended up a different color, I'd hedge my bets on some kind of contamination causing an impurity that threw off the color due to a reaction. Quite possibly, that could've led to the graininess as well, if it caused some crystallization of some sort over time.

    No lead white?
    With your linseed/flax you could have woven your own canvas as well.

      Lead is toxic dude. Why do you think so many painters in history died so early? it was obviously because of lead intoxication.
      Btw where are you from?

    Leonardo Davinci painted the Mona Lisa on a wood panel which is very interesting. BTW I love these videos they are so cool to see how difficult it is to make these things from scratch! Please make more!

    The Mona Lisa was painted on uncut poplar board, which isn’t to far from a panel; a popular canvas type among En Plein Air oil painters.
    The quality of oil paints for an absolute beginner is very impressive considering the fact that certain pigments require different ratios of oil and some need to be worked for many hours to create a smooth thick paint. I’ve been professionally mentored in oil painting since I was 12; I am now 20. I greatly commend your attempt at using the oil paints you created in an actual painting. If you find some joy or relaxing qualities in the process of painting I would definitely encourage you to keep at it. For future reference if anyone is interested in oil painting I would highly suggest to get a type of odorless mineral spirits as in Terpenoid to thin the paints when creating your base layer and/or to help clean your brushes. It’s not a must but having either Neo-Meglip or spare linseed oil will make working with older or notoriously thick paints much easier.

    The Mona Lisa is painted on wood. I was at a DaVinci museum exhibit in Denver and it was really interesting to see all the work that has gone into it. They had a replica there, but still very cool.

    Da Vinci painted Mona Lisa on a wood panel, like a lot of his other paintings. Mona Lisa was on poplar, but he used walnut for paintings like Salvator Mundi and other portraits with dark backgrounds.

    The monalisa is painted on wood. similar to most paintings at the time, it wasn't until later that most painters started using canvas to paint on as materials like stucco hadn't been widely available for canvas'.

    All things considered that really wasn't bad, man! You got the reflections in the water and some of the Bob Ross techniques down which really make it better. Some of the paints like the copper green as well as the brushes themselves may not be as refined as you would want, but it was very clear where you were going with the painting. Really enjoyed this video.

    Nice chemistry with the copper carbonate! Many inorganic salts produce these vibrant colors due to the transition metal atom within them, however, sometimes these salts are white (or colorless) until they form a hydrate (take on molecular water) which changes the way it interacts with the electromagnetic spectrum (light).
    Now for your question. Leonardo DaVinci actually painted on a plank of poplar wood for The Mona Lisa .
