very detailed episode. Its a great looking ship. I especially like the chunk bridge and neck/impulse section. really gives it that battle oriented feel. also the forward saucer mounted torpedo array makes so much sense to me I never understood why you didn't see more of that on other ships.
That’s a very cool ship. Makes me wish Kirk had been a captain of this craft instead; this is what the Connie should have been. It looks good from every angle. I agree with the criticism of the impulse deck though; it could be compressed slightly. Other than that, it’s my favorite TOS era ship now. We need a series set in the just post TOS era that features this ship. Come on CBS, make it happen!
🖖😎👍A very nice and very cool looking starship indeed, You all did a very great job on informatively explaining and executing everything about this vessel indeed 👌.
Wow, the Commander is really outdoing himself lately with his cinematics! (Does he do commissions? lol) While I normally don't like fan-made ships, I do like this one (the Shangri-La). Kudos to the creator, Bill Krause.
SO COOL. So happy to see a ship like this based out of my favorite ST design era... the best ever era and color scheme, and no big cartoony sci-fi glowing red bussards. I love the impulse deck, and I think the secondary hull is a good crossover to Excelsior. I do question the name and the impetus for its design. I get the U.S. had the carrier, but there's a bit of propaganda there. Shangri-la is a place based on the Tibetan beyuls, a place of perfect peace or "paradise on earth." Makes sense as the name of some Federation ship, but seems contradictory for an attack ship or "bruiser." It's like naming an attack ship the U.S.S. Buddha. Also there is no tactical ship response to V'ger, unless it's purpose-built to surrender, or ask politely "would you like to merge with our X.O. and go away, pretty please?" It would be like building an attack ship as a response to the Q. That said, this ship should exist in cannon with its focus intact, and IT'S AMAZING. THANKS!
+GCGBill Maybe, just said how the name struck me. Happen to be in the midst of a book called The Heart of the World about a guy's search for a beyul, supposedly idyllic Buddhist refuges, and the beyul basis for shangrila seems to be a common interpretation. But I regret arousing your attention just for that, cuz honestly I think yours is my favorite starfleet ship design I've seen in decades since the Miranda & Excelsior. It would be awesome to see it in the new 2017 series. Have loved both Shangri-la and Wasp. To see it rendered in motion so beautifully is a treat. All these legendary ST designers along with the Trekyards team gave you the win, name & all. I'm just another dude on UA-cam with one too many opinions. The design is a gift to look at and I wish I'd just focused on that.
Thank you Chris. I'm happy that you enjoyed the designs! The names I give my ships is something that I research - to infuse as much heritage and personal touch as I can. In fact, they usually start with the name before the design touches the paper. It's like naming a child. When someone questions that choice, I'm usually taken aback. But I do appreciate your thoughtful comments! Yes, I'd love to see what they do for the next series. I'm just honored to have this brief spotlight. Thanks again!
For a refit down the road it could be pretty cool to have a hammerhead excelsior primary hull (keeping the original Shangri LA bridge and impulse engine assembly) and excelsior warp engines :)
This is a truly amazing design! It's radically different but at the same time is very respectful of the TMP design aesthetic. It reminds me of some of the design cues from the Starfleet Command games. The pylon placement gives it such a wide beefy stance and just exudes strength and power. There isn't really anything I don't like about it. It's not just a great fan design, it's a great design. It holds up with anything from what I call the Legendary Designers, and it's no wonder it won the contest
24th Century model: Sovereignesque warp nacelles. retain the torpedo launchers (upgraded for time period) and phaser arrays on saucer with an omni-directional mount on the ventral secondary hull. Retain the phasers above the shuttle bay. Doesn't take much to keep her viable.
Fascinating! This ship seems very much to be a 'kindred spirit' of sorts with my Akagi. Both are evolutions from the Enterprise/Constitution Refit-class, monstrously fast, and armed to the teeth!
Revisiting this one, 'cause I enjoyed it that much. It looks great from all angles, it looks functional, and it looks - most importantly - REALLY cool. Excellent ship, Bill! And thanks to the Captain and the XO for showing it off to us!
Looks like it could be an Excelsior era replacement for the Belknap class strike cruisers. Good lines. Looks like it would also work well with the Akula class.
I used to spend hours upon hours designing new star ships when i was a teen. Like alot of teens one gets good at drawing. I had paper tablets of star trek ships id drawn. Never had the money to kit bash.
Very sexy. I like the Hammer-head Primary hull but the secondary hull is something I wish we had seen on other Federation ships. It just feels more natural then say the Excelsior or Galaxy class's for instance.
I wish they'd have made a series with this as the main ship, i'd have liked to see a series set in a Klingon way from a battle cruiser's POV, lots of action & lots of front line stuff. I mean just look at it, it looks so aggressive, it's almost like a ship a Klingon would design if he had access to federation tech.
It's crazy to see that an iteration of the Shangri-La class not only carry the legacy of the Titan it also became a part of the Enterprise Legacy🤯
The USS Shangri-La is one my Favorite ship now
Mine too! I need a diecast model of this ship..
+Steven Anchundia right its an awesome ship.
It's one of the best fan designs I have seen.
I knew the Titan-A from Picard S3 looked familiar. It’s literally this design!
Had to come back here since the Titan A looks a whole lot like a refit of the Shangri La class. :)
served on USS Shangrila CVA38
milton trenholm thank you for your service
My step-dad did too
Magnificent ship design. Very well engineered and conceived. Its good of your guys to include fan designs like this.
I was doubtful first. But now this is one of my favorite Star Trek ships. Great backstory and detail.
very detailed episode. Its a great looking ship. I especially like the chunk bridge and neck/impulse section. really gives it that battle oriented feel.
also the forward saucer mounted torpedo array makes so much sense to me I never understood why you didn't see more of that on other ships.
nice indeed...It looks to me as if the saucer has been flipped upside down so the original bridge is on the bottom.
I saw this a few years ago and was definitely fascinated by this design right away. It's sleek and elegant and just over all awesome.
I love the look of the refit time ships especially the warp nacelles. I'm sorry I can't word my sentence better.
That is a very cool looking ship. Very well done............
This design looks so much better than the Enterprise G, look at those lines! Thank you
Fantastic design and model, well deserved win. Congratulations!
That's high praise.
Amazing design and designer! Thanks guys - great show!
Thanks for putting that 3D model together Dave! Well done!
Thanks Bill - it wasa pleasure!
I like it, its got a nice design too it and a nice appearance to it as well 😉 👍
Beautiful ships my friend, i really like it.
Great ship. I love the secondary hull. The more flat design fits so well with the rest of the ship.
So this is the inspiration for the Titan-A
I like the bow mounted torpedo tubes but I have always wondered why there were never side-firing torpedo tubes.
Coming back to this video in 2023 because of Picard season 3
Looks like a great ship... when can I fly it in Star Trek Online?
I wish
That would be cool.
This is a great design like the impulse drive units, good to see the photon torpedoes on the main saucer section.
Beautiful work!
Gorgeous ship. Wish they could use the design in STO, I would buy it immediately!
Such a cool design.
Fantastic and Skilled builder!
This starship looks great! Awesome ship. Thank you for the ship design.
Awesome, this is my all time favorite federation starship
I think this might be my favorite ship class of all time.
That’s a very cool ship. Makes me wish Kirk had been a captain of this craft instead; this is what the Connie should have been. It looks good from every angle. I agree with the criticism of the impulse deck though; it could be compressed slightly. Other than that, it’s my favorite TOS era ship now. love this ship exelent design makes me rethink my feelings for that era! glorious!
👀
The more I look at the Shangri La the better it looks. Those impulse engines are awesome
This is a beautiful ship!
🖖😎👍A very nice and very cool looking starship indeed, You all did a very great job on informatively explaining and executing everything about this vessel indeed 👌.
I like this ship design. Thanks for this video.
THIS IS AWESOME. this is possibly my favorite fan design ever, and it looks totally cannon.
Great design love the way it looks.Even though it was meant to be a combat ship it looks sleek and elegant. Nice job!
Damn good looking ship. Appreciate the attention to detail and history. Would love to see this on the big screen.
This is an awesome design! I love seeing new Movie era ships. Great work! Mr Krause
Wow, the Commander is really outdoing himself lately with his cinematics! (Does he do commissions? lol) While I normally don't like fan-made ships, I do like this one (the Shangri-La). Kudos to the creator, Bill Krause.
+Darin Wagner Thank you so much! That is very much appreciated! And yes i do, please email trekyards@hotmail.com and we can talk about it further!
I've been so busy guys, but I'm back. Can I just say you're my FAVOURITE UA-cam channel :)
Great looking ship.
This has to be one of the most beautifully designed ships, the aesthetics and shapes just flow perfectly together!

+Chris Cone Naming a ship "Shangri-La" is absolutely nothing like naming a vessel "Buddha".
+GCGBill Maybe, just said how the name struck me. Cool design love the way it looks well done
Except for the Connie, this is my absolute TMP era design. Thanks for this episode.
Stunningly beautiful design!
For a refit down the road it could be pretty cool to have a hammerhead excelsior primary hull (keeping the original Shangri LA bridge and impulse engine assembly) and excelsior warp engines :)
My 3 favorite 23rd Century ships are;
1. the Sentinel class.
2. the Excelsior/Excelsior refit class.
3. the Shangri-la/Ranger class.
I love the more tactical mission profile with the shorter neck and the positioning of the nacelles
Wait, I've seen this shape before. That's right! A hammerhead shark! Very cool indeed.
Awesome ship, great episode!
Love the Belknap too!
When I was approx. 6 to 8 years old, I got a chance to visit the USS Shangri-La during a grade school field trip, when I lived in Naples, Italy.
Really cool design
Great episode thanks guys.
That is a quite impressive ship! Excellent Work!
Beautiful Ship!
Love this one what a great design
This is an amazing design.
ive gotta say its a nice looking ship it certainly looks like a brawler tough, durable and sleek too well designed there bill krause
Love to see Bill Krause's ideas on Daedalus-Class style ships from ENT to TOS and into the Movie era.
Great video guys. What an amazing, smart Ship. :-)
What a beautiful ship!!! Reminds me of the Ambassador!
Brilliant Ship! very much a hunter/no-nonsense vessel, one of first 23rd starfleet ships I've seen that has 'don't mess with me' profile.
Really like the design.
beautiful work Mr. Krause
I desperately want a ranger variant model of this ship. Something around the 2ft scale would be fantastic! Must. Find. One!

Nice ship, very nice.
I'd love a model kit of this ship
A brilliant way to bridge the TMP-era Enterprise and the Excelsior class. Love it.
Impulse engines on that class looks USS Vengeance-esque.
I sure like this design! Is a model of the Shangri-La ever going to come out? I’d sure like one
2022 checking in, basically yes, you're gonna get something close 👍👍
Looks like the Conny and the Excelsior Class came together and had a baby.
Waauw, it looks familiar, but still different, i like this ship very much. I would like building a model of it!
+Davide Gagliardi Is there any model kit for this available?
Fascinating! This ship seems very much to be a 'kindred spirit' of sorts with my Akagi. Both are evolutions from the Enterprise/Constitution Refit-class, monstrously fast, and armed to the teeth!
since my father served on the real shangri la in ww2 it is great to see this
This is an awesome ship. Would love to have a model of this!!1
Pretty Ship !
Revisiting this one, 'cause I enjoyed it that much. It looks great from all angles, it looks functional, and it looks - most importantly - REALLY cool. Excellent ship, Bill! And thanks to the Captain and the XO for showing it off to us!
How'd I miss this episode. You guys are amazing :) 💙
Paramount should hire Bill to design the Neu-1701-A.
One of the best fan designs I´ve ever seen. Too bad we don´t get the Titan (Luna-class) in Picard S3.
Looks like it could be an Excelsior era replacement for the Belknap class strike cruisers. Good lines. Looks like it would also work well with the Akula class.
is a beautiful ship
Beautiful
I am in love 🥰🤩 fast, armed to the teeth, maneuverable like a mongoose, rugged.
I used to spend hours upon hours designing new star ships when i was a teen. Like alot of teens one gets good at drawing. I had paper tablets of star trek ships id drawn. Never had the money to kit bash.
Beautiful design.
A great ship.
Very sexy. I like the Hammer-head Primary hull but the secondary hull is something I wish we had seen on other Federation ships. It just feels more natural then say the Excelsior or Galaxy class's for instance.
I WANT A SHANGI-LA!!!!
Now that's a cool ass ship.
Fuzzy Duo I would love to see Discovery become so successful that it spawns another show!
Shangri-La was also the name of the retreat President Rosevelt used to meat with Churchill, AKA Camp David.
It's also the name of a great Electric Light Orchestra song!
And just like that - canonized!
I hope they bring this to Star Trek online 🤩
i would love to see these fan made ships like this one and The Federation class added to STO
9:32. I held my nose, Captain. I hope that was sufficient. :-)
