Shania was HUGE in the 90s, and this song was the biggest crossover hit. She's gorgeous and playful and feminine, and everyone loved her. When I saw this flip take of the Robert Palmer video, I thought it was perfect. The 90s was a great decade for music and pop culture.
It's strange to me when people don't know who Shania or Allison Kraus are. I mean Allison has 27 grammys and Shania has multiple DIAMOND albums. It's pretty crazy. But yeah, Shania (with help from her very talented husband) was HUGE instantly. She hit the scene like Brittany Spears with her first hit. Her husband is behind a lot of very successful bands, like Def Leppard, which you can hear a bit in a lot of her songs, and she of course is a great writer and performer. She has that IT factor. People like to blame her for turning country into pop or whatever but country went through pop phases a few times before her and bounced back. It still sounds country to me. The execs are what really hurt the genre.
Her life story is one of tragedy, triumph, hardship, and perseverance. Watch some interviews with her and you can't help but have even respect for her and be totally charmed by what a truly remarkable person she is. We are very proud of her here in Canada.
You both most likely have heard this song multiple times. Was on commercials, was always played at outdoor events like state fairs, county fairs, sporting events, its played in restaurants, bars, still played on the radio. Its just a song everyone has heard even if you dont remember.

The album this song is from "Come on Over" holds the Guinness world record for most sales by a solo female artist with over 40,000,000. This puts her 12th highest in history including all genres of music. I personally loved 12 of the 16 songs on this album and still have them on my playlists.
This woman is a goddess of music! Coming from a poor Canadian family living in a backwoods community in Ontario, Shania rose to fame like a phoenix from the ashes, and became the best-selling female country artist EVER. Her album Come on Over (which, yes, this song is from), is the eighth best selling album of all time, making it the best selling album from a solo female artist OF ALL TIME. You can rave all you want about Rhianna and Beyonce and all those other modern pop stars, but Shania will forever hold her own. She is an icon of Canadian country, and made Nashville what it is today for female artists.
I had a feeling this was coming after I saw the Robert Palmer video earlier. "You're still the one" would be my suggestion for something that shows her vocals off more than the fun songs do.
The video is a DECADE after Robert Palmer's using women for eye candy, but Shania has the opposite song and show. Shania had so many top 5 hits for much of the later 90's, and later. She had so many cross over hits, 30+ million sales. A CANADIAN treasure.
