Mate I am amazed by these results. Not just the results, that mod on the otari is *nuts*!!! Sign me up for one of these!!! EDIT after watching the whole thing, these textures are mind blowing. Best thing Ive seen all year!
Thank you! Yeah it’s really pretty satisfying when it all comes together. Last night I had the next level setup going with the output of the tape into endlesss and fading in huge sections through an AMS it just got to next level lush. It’s a really inspiring thing. I’ve different loops hanging up now and I can just grab the right length and go. It’s pretty fast !
Wowsers! Love the nerdery of this, so beautifully done. Btw - the Korg SE-500 has CV and S-Trig control of tape speed, effect on, intensity reset. It also does sound on sound. All from 1979! But Jamie obviously did a whole heap more with that reel to reel.
Oh yes! That vid you did was great. What a lovely box that is. I’m waiting on another mod on this to allow access to the super slow mode .. it’s a switch deep in the machine but I need it on the front. That will allow 4 octaves control. The munge levels get so crazy after that. Lol
@@HANGINGOUTWITHAUDIOPHILES I've just realised this is your channel Jamie, ha. Four Octaves- wow, that's some serious pitch potential. The only thing I found frustrating with tape speed CV is the lag of the mechanical side of it. Obviously you can't switch immediately to a new speed, it's always a slew. But then it's amazing in so many other ways.
@@AlexBallMusic hey ! Yes. From time to time I get the cameras out to make a little vid. Inspired by all you pros :) I think hainbach has an HP tape with BNC ins that is very fast. I’d had the idea to develop a tape machine using drone motors. Not sure if it’ll ever be made but I’d love to see that too !
@@HANGINGOUTWITHAUDIOPHILES Your video looks more pro than any stuff I bumble together. Hainbach - ah cool. I'll have to ask him about that. Drone motors - now you're talking. Obviously a joystick remote control would need to be incorporated. 😀
Seeing Prince Fatty’s video about dub mixing and fx ua-cam.com/video/AmEwSLuUbsI/v-deo.html made me lust after a reel to reel, this isn’t helping me shake that desire.
The thing I love most about this, isn’t even the tape machine. It that your ‘unboxing space’ looks exactly like just inside our front door. Shoes everywhere, kids everywhere, bikes.
I used to listen to jamie's music some 10-15 years ago and then somehow lost track. Now by accident found him again and its been fun to check out some of his new content! Great to see he's still kicking and staying true to his original soul. Peace out!
Was aware of this after you were on Sonic talk and it’s like when Eric Clapton first saw Hendrix he said “ I feel like giving up Guitar now” I’m 68 and this beyond my mortal capabilities Anyway Jamie your a Genius sonic explorer Cheers from🇬🇧🇬🇧Bromley, London👍🆒
You got my sub with this for sure, but I'm not letting anyone near the insides of my MX5050 4 channel. It's too important to me for my drum stems. Also, I'm betting I can accomplish a lot of these tones with my Fulltone TTE and a Zen Delay...
@@HANGINGOUTWITHAUDIOPHILES Ahh okay, they sound amazing! :) Thank you for your amazing content and for demystifying important aspects of the music making buisness! :)
ah man the Revox was my first love. That was the machine I had for my album muddlin gear back in 1998. I loved it so much. Such a fun machine. Really hope it can take the mod. That would be wild
@@HANGINGOUTWITHAUDIOPHILES that would be incredible. And I’m talking about recording stuff the way you normally do like with drums and other instruments all analog and then chopping them to bits and reassembling them. With some scattered electroacoustic type sounds and elements of soul, funk etc. Keep it all instrumental and don’t say it’s you. Keep it all mysterious like aphex did with Tuss. Big fan, sir.
Worth a try! It was a bit tricky but it can be done. I recommend a noise gate. Without it the tape is liable to add pops and noise that can be harder to isolate when making the gate signal. The timing is a little wobbly but not bad!
This was lovely!
Glad you liked it ! I had a feeling this one might be up your strasse :)
This is absolutely wild space-cadet level tapery. Bravo
It’s a treat. I was laughing when I got the cirklon synced to the tape. 1969 meets 1999

OMG this is just amazing .... I need another 200 years to live to understand all this ....
excellent!

Tape skills bringing out some 90s vibes at the end there
Wow this is incredible. That amount of control on a reel2reel. Via CV. Clocking the eurorack system. Mind. Blown. 🤯
Send this tape machine to Boards of Canada asap!

Is that a GOB instruments guitar?
Fano
Love it. Gets more and more bonkers as the experimentation progresses. The audible expression of neurons firing.
Lovely stuff.

What drummachine is he using? :)

As someone who thought I new it all I definitely learned something!
My Tascam 38 has a very worried look on it's face right now
Fantastic video, subscribed. Looking for a way to add a CV speed control to my Revox B77MKII

Criminally under liked. Jamie should make an album under an Alias of just sounds and beats.
You know. I might just do that ... :)

Simply awesome, you've blown my mind! 🤯🎧
So gooood! endless possibilities , now i want a tape machine!
Really love the concept. Is that click track pretty stable? Makes me wonder if there's a way to mod a Tascam 424 to do this.

Wow this is so cool
Please make more videos with the marantz delay eurorack and the nagra i love this stuff😍😍
Good plan !
This is the best kind of stuff, thanks!
Wild!
Hey is it possibile to modify the nagra 4 with cv???
I’m not aware of it. There is always a way though :)
This is fantastic!
Marvellous.

Nice work
