Thank you Holy Spirit! Makes total sense…I only open the door for family & friends that I have a relationship with as well. And I think we can all agree we don’t invite everyone we’ve brunched with into our home 🏡 for obvious reasons. Thank you Jesus for your grace and bearing our sins on the cross. Thank you for making the way. You are the narrow door 🚪. Thank you for giving us eyes to see & ears to hear. All praise & glory to our King Jesus! I am unworthy 🤍🤍🤍
I've had this theme of missed expectations in my head for a while, it's found its way into a couple of sermons here and there. Jesus is once again dealing with the expectations of man and turning it upside down. Last weeks words about fire and God's judgement were troubling to the hearers. This week the narrow door is going to be troubling. All of this is troubling because Jesus isn't going along with what we expect to be the answer. He is constantly challenging our expectations and driving us to himself. The devil and the world and our sinful flesh strive to widen the way to eternal life. I don't know if this would work but you could maybe use the image of highway construction and how it's never ending (we are always trying to build on to the "way" [self-salvation]) but the road Jesus leads us toward is narrow....
But what does this LOOK like? Are we Christians in only an "interior" way? Have we only said that famous "sinners prayer" but then we don't DO anything? Do people look at our lives and say "that person is a Christian! I can tell, because I see him doing good things and sharing about Christianity with others!" I truly think that saying we have Christ in our hearts, but then not doing anything about it is NOT enough! In my view, taking to heart the scripture " we must work out our salvation" - this is the truth! We must have works! We must. Without works we have no true profession of our faith! I know this is not a popular thing to say among many Christians today. But I do believe it is the truth!
"They were not connected to him and his house." This was a comment that one of you made. So getting connected....what does that LOOK like? Is this a "head" issue? Or is it a "heart" issue? Is it both? Or is it something more? What IS the way? Where IS the narrow door? What does belief LOOK like? What should we DO to get to and through that narrow gate? (So many Christians will say that doing things is NOT what faith is.) But if hanging out at church isn't enough....if being in a prayer group isn't enough....if using Christian phrases and speech isn't enough...if saying we are Christian isn't enough.....then what IS enough? Is it repentance only? If that is the case, then what do we DO with repentance? Do we repent and then go on our merry way, thinking that THIS is enough? I have heard very few preachers give an adequate sermon about this. They jump around, they back track, they say things like - Believe! Repent! Pray! Come to church! Get in a prayer group! Stay away from alcohol! Stay away from drugs! Be kind to your friends, your neighbors, your family! Give your tithes, your money, yourself! But again - my question is WHAT DOES THIS LOOK LIKE?? Will people see you doing these things but then say "....he is just doing good works. That's not being a Christian!" My question: does saying you are a Christian mean that you are just ascending to a heart-felt thought? Or, does it mean more than that?
Why choose not to publish my comment and link? Why not post it for all to see and let them decide what is truth? You are misleading many to the broad path...
Re: "I do not know where you are from", what you said in the video is not what that means. The phrase is an idiom/expression, intended to express the idea of a lack of depth to the relationship...

First time watching you guys..the bourbon in the background seems incongruous to the topics..
Good job, guys!

Finally someone who has verbalized all the questions churning in my head.
I too would like some examples of what this looks like.
Good questions Marla. Here you go, the truth about striving and the narrow door: ua-cam.com/video/EMBmTuYU__A/v-deo.html

Drinking spirits and talking about eternal destiny? Talking bible over booze. Great message guys.
So we’re sitting around drinking (spirits) trying to teach Christ? Nah… I’m out
