Having had the Mk1s right up to the Mk3 Gtis in the family I think what VW has done to the Mk8 is sacrilegious. The Mk4 was everyone's dream car especially in the R32 guise, and one could forgive VW for the Mk5 which lacked all the Golf design DNAs, for they were going through a genesis of some sort at the time which influenced the rest of the auto car makers til this day. The subsequent iterations were amazing cars and by that time we got used getting shocked out of our skins by VW. But what they have done to the Mk8 is unforgivable. Notably the silhouette of the front headlights, the rear lights that belong on a van, that faux leather interior (c'mon it's an R product), and as if all that wasn't bad enough, they gave us THE most abhorrent, most visually displeasing front dash! Now with the EU in economic turmoil which will translate to even more expensive German cars - I have stopped my anticipation for next version altogether. My being a Gen X-er doesn't help too I've a feeling.
I’d buy the MK8.5 Golf R over the FL5 CTR any day. AWD vs FWD. no brainer.
Exactly. But cannot underestimate the honda engineering. They really made the best FWD cad. Type R can actually went toe to toe with the AWD car
