It wasn't a polished or slick performance. It wasn't carefully stage-managed. It wasn't easily reduced to a 5 second soundbite for the evening news. But it was sincere, dignified, humane, and modest. It was everything that has been almost absent from politics in this country since, arguably, the death of John Smith.
I am not a Labour party member, but am so delighted to see a new seam of politics opening up for England.

+Jacob Benjamin Yes, it's about the form he wants political decision making to take as much as the policies. This is setting a good example to all parties. He will definitely open up the debate, forcing the media to give coverage to socialist ideas too.

The deluded left think that borrowing money is the answer when somewhere down the line that money needs repaying . That's what the Tories are doing now , clearing up labours mess. I agree. Things are hotting up now and about time too as it is has been one bland sound bite after another in UK politics for too long.
Truly gutted that this political revolution wasn't happening at the last election. 5 years is forever!
I cannot believe the rubbish I have read in the press (and that includes left leaning press) about this speech. Words such as average, unrehearsed and lukewarm have been bandied about. A Telegraph reporter even quoted a delegate trashing the speech saying it was 'fu*king awful'. He would find the one quote (I think a made up quote) and put it on twitter but ignore the many delegates that were cheering and standing on their feet applauding. Personally I thought this speech was great. His style is a breath of fresh air compared to the robotic, staged and soundbite driven language that comes out of most of the political establishment. Every day I feel more vindicated about voting for this man. He has given me energy and belief in something different than the thin gruel being served up to the British people at the moment that passes for society.
Look at some of the great orators, whether British or from other countries around the world, then look at Corbyn. Even his "allies" admit he's no orator...

Corbyn's massive borrowing and printing money we don't have would lead to massive public spending cuts. It'd make Britain going cap in hand to the IMF under 1970s Labour pale into insignificance. Gordon Brown left Britain with a mountain of debt in 2010. Corbyn's promises depend on money trees we don't have. Not surprised he's already one of Britain's most unpopular leaders. Scots say that Corbyn's Labour will lose even more Scottish Parliament seats in 2016. The SNP says it's tired of Corbyn's lies.

Nope - they're laughing at Corbyn's pathetic lies about the SNP "privatising" services. Voters across Scotland are looking forward to Labour losing a lot more seats in the Scottish Parliament in May 2016.
Very good speech by Jeremy Corbyn, very natural & oozes sincerity & genuine compassion & belief too... Not a fan of some of Jeremy's ideology... But will say that Jeremy Corbyn could prove to be a handful for David Cameron, time will tell...
Great inspirational speech, someone who its possible to relate to. I hear all the media pundits being critical and I just switch off because of their agenda to undermine him. They all sound bitter and childish.
It isn't just the media who are critical. The public say he has nothing to say about the biggest issues for THEM: bringing down immigration, welfare benefits and Labour's massive deficit...
Don't underestimate Jeremy Corbyn. he's a mild mannered street fighter as tough as old boots. All this crap about talking to the IRA. they all have. who let them out of prison?

Ahh Jeremy. Like all politicians, whining about how under strain our housing, hospitals and schools are; yet has no problem with our population rising by a million people every three years from immigration alone. I like this guy as I share many of his viewpoints. But he's a staunch supporter of our relationship with the EU which makes him a no go for me. We can never live in a functioning democracy when our Parliament only has limited powers

There's also a whole list of other European legislation that protects us from policies that our own governments would have gleefully inflicted on us - stripping us of freedoms, civil liberties and other protections. Be careful what you wish for. The EU is not the bogeyman you think it is.

University cleaners tell me (as a graduate), I should get a job as a janitor or a cleaner because the pay is amazing. This is at the University of Glasgow. Not disagreeing with Cobryn, but in Glasgow we are finding its super easy to find a job down South (South of England that is), but we would prefer to find jobs here up north but I know very few people, (2 come to mind right now) in Glasgow who graduated in 2015 are with a job in Glasgow or within commuting distance from Glasgow and I know a lot of people here. Majority of us graduates are still looking for jobs! Something is not right up north and I refuse to believe its the failure of the SNP!
So good to hear the encouragement of Corbyn after the contempt and condemnation of previous years.

Today the tories voted to take 1000 pounds out of the pockets of the low payed and there moto as been hard work pays.only it will be a lot less. lets get behind this man and fight by his side he carnt do it alone all for one and one for all.
Can we all learn from Greece that each country needs their own laws, own money supply and army otherwise you can not have elections that mean government are elected by the people.

+john Walsh They did do some good things, its disingenuous to say other wise. Minimum wage / tax credits (which im assuming you support!) are an example. The issue is what came with them. de-regulation of the banks, war and subsidies to corporations etc. It's similar to the new min wage of £9 by 2020. most would think this is a good thing, its what surrounds it that is a problem. Little could argue that same sex marriage that was introduced by the coalition is a bad thing... all governments do things we approve. The problem as i see it, is the standards we set for our politicians, it isn't good enough to have a few flagship policies that we agree on. We need real change and lasting solidarity for the people of this country. The media however, will always stop this from happening.
Please tell me for the god sake, what has cameron done since being in power? Please tell me the changes he's made because damn well I can't see them but if I can, it's sure for worse.
Over 2 million new jobs, zero inflation, private sector jobs at over 4% wage rises, paying down Labour's huge deficit, referendums on AV, Falkland Islands and Scottish independence already held, an upcoming one on the EU, more money for genuine Syrian refugees than the rest of the EU put together, and a "foreign aid superpower" - the 2nd biggest provider of foreign aid after the United States, no open door policy for non-EU economic migrants, capping the massive benefits bill to the same level as average earnings, beginning of the Northern Powerhouse, a long-term economic plan. Swing voters see Labour as not addressing their main concerns, and being too much risk to the economy - and vital marginal seats will no more vote for Corbyn in 2020 than they did for Miliband this year...
I would turn gay for this man in a nanosecond.
