- In this video we will see how to make tomato pickle recipe in tamil. This thakkali oorugai is a great combination for rice, dosa, idli and chapathi. It brings out the tangy tomato with spicy flavors and can be directly mixed with rice to make an instant variety rice. It can also be used as a side dish for idli, dosa and chapathi.

Ingredients:
1 kg Tomatoes
lemon sized Tamarind (4-5 strand)
To grind:
1 tsp Fenugreek
1 tsp Mustard seeds
For Tempering:
5-6 tbsp Oil
1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
10 Fenugreek
15-20 garlic pods
3 dry Red Chilies
3 spring Curry leaves
1/4 tsp Asafoetida
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
2 tbsp Chili powder
1.25 tsp Salt or as preferred
1 tbsp extra Oil
small piece of Jaggery (optional)
Last year seeing some other you tube channel tried tomatoes pickle 5 kg .. to store for a year but it went totally spoiled and all wasted .. today I tried and it came out perfectly… whatever channel they post cooking videos but you simply make things and we get perfect taste in first attempt itself .No one can beat you .. Hats off to You

Hello Mam, I just have one doubt, after making this, does it need to be stored in a refrigerator ? I'm from India and the climate here is quite hot. The recipe looks really great !!! No need to store in refrigerator.... It will hold good even for a year, i used to make the same way... But will add a lot of garlic as well.
