    I have a 2018 Toyota Camry SE…
Can fixing the water pump cause the thermostat to go bad? I feel like I was ripped off at the dealership. My cars check engine light was on and the gauge was on the H but it was never hot or smoking, also no leaking. I took it to the dealer and they said the water pump, I paid to get it fixed less than 48 hr hours later the check engine light was back on I took it back and now they are saying the thermostat. I thought it was that from the very beginning

You could just have an electrical issue thats causing the temp gauge to read Hot even though the radiator fluid isnt boiling, its a thing that can happen. I would take your car to multiple other shops and see if they say the exact same thing or not. And they would have checked the thermostat first to diagnose your issue considering its a whole lot easier to take out a thermostat than to take out a water pump, so it is possible they are just trying to make you replace parts so you can fork money over to them.

Did you get it fixed? @jessica4721
I have a 2018 Toyota Camry too and my check engine light just came on just 2days ago I went to a mechanic shop and they said it was the P26CB code (water pump) that it’s stuck. I took it to the dealership but they couldn’t quote me on fixing it they wanted to check it & give me a diagnostics themselves $195 😥

My coolant level is dropping every time I drive it. Drops about half an inch every day. Engine oil looks fine and no head gasket issues. Could a bad water pump be the reason it’s losing coolant?

I have the same problem with my Subaru Outback, it was doing fine for awhile, and suddenly my car starts overheating when I drive for awhile, a lot of air pockets were removed, put a lot of fluid in the new radiator, and got a new thermostat
My car wasn’t leaking coolant (not even a single drop) but the coolant just disappears
The only way to look at it is the water pump issue… But I am going to take my car to someone who knows a lot more about cars, and diagnose the actual issue

Try placing a thing of cardboard under your car every time you park it and it would help trying to pin point where the leak is coming from. The water pump is where all the belts are at so if you see any liquid dripping out of that area while the car is running then good chance its the water pump. If you dont see anything leaking out of that area, inspect other places, radiator hoses and the radiator itself mainly.

Bubbles coming out from the radiator neck usually means blown head gasket.
