- 8 months ago, I got a request from the username "goldfingasva" to post all of the keyboards that I have that had built in demonstration songs on them in direct line recordings. Back then, I couldn't do them in direct line because I only had a basic camera that didn't have a line in jack to connect it to an audio cable but this week, I got a new video recorder called the Zoom Q3HD that has the line in jack that I need to put an audio cable into it so in future, I will be using this video recorder to do all my videos from now on and will all be in direct line recordings for much better sound quality.
This video is going to be Part 1 of 5 showing all of the 100 Demonstration songs that are built into this Yamaha PSR-170 Keyboard Released in 2001 and in direct line for the very first time in my videos.
Enjoy!

Same!
I have these songs burned into my brain from when I was like 5 years old
Childhood memories!! We still have this keyboard.. going strong!
I got this keyboard for my 14th birthday, it was the very first keyboard I owned as you can see closely at theykeys it has stickers with the noted on it and this is what got me started on keyboard playing :)
Thanks for watching and a good evening!
Kind regards
Michael
I had this same piano to your video. In 2002, my mom gave me a birthday gift for the piano. I played and listened to the relaxing demo music. Oh, how I missed this piano in my whole life. Few years later, my dad sold my piano in garage sale was $80. I was really sad that I missed those relaxing music. So, right now, I'm going to buy the old piano that I had.
I also got this keyboard in 2002, for my 14th birthday and was my first keyboard ever and still have it to this day :)
+KeyboardKrazy49 same but in 2006
Me too
Thanks, Michael!!! I’ve been looking forever for the first demo song. My family had this keyboard when I was little and it brings back good memories.

If I die, I want the song at 20:10 Heroic Polonaise on a pipe organ playing at my funeral. If not, then I’m not going to die to begin with. Ever! Do you understand me?
Autism, I dont mean you in any way but to all those that have a problem with Autistic people or people with any other disabilities etc, there is nothing wrong with any of that and should take a good look at themselves before judging others as everyone is human at the end of the day and I am not ashamed of it because I am good at what I do on youtube and in the real world etc so to me I think everyone with disabilities or not should be treated the same way.
Thanks for watching!
2:20 So when i was in middle school, me and the boys used the first demo song with full volume and connected to loudspeaker to make teacher feel annoyed and mad 😂
@@Anonymous474-i6p haha I know that feeling to annoy teachers, the way I used to annoy the teacher was to keep pressing the DJ and Dictionary buttons
Last time when the boys plays the first demo song, i recorded them with my old camcorder for last day of school.
You know what is fun about this? The training mode! It really feels like you play a rhythm game with these demo songs. I think it's kinda literally a rhythm game since they have a scoring system like "PERFECT!" or "VERY GOOD!" in the end. I'm having so much fun when I was a kid.
I Miss The OLD Sounds of The OLD Yamaha Keyboards But I Still Got My PSR-175 and I Sometimes Mess Around With the DJ Voices.
2:20 is one of my all-time Yamaha demo songs, and I like 3:30 just as much.
Same bro
@@g.3067 3:30 is also called take off.
What's the name of 2.20
@@bertonabike6991 I don't know the name of the song at 2:20, but the name of the song at 3:30 is Take Off as confirmed by the PSR-340.
@@titmouse-distribution dw about it. Thanks tho
I had that same keyboard around 14 years ago, I then sold it 2 years later. Who would've thought that over a decade later my younger sister would own this same model of keyboard and would learning how to play from. I know right, it's crazy.
Thanks for your comment! it is still a great beginners keyboard and it was my very first keyboard that I got way back on my 14th birthday in April 2002 and over 15 years later, I still have it to this very day!
3:33 Back in middle school during music class we would play the piano and would always play this song! :D
darkangel13915 that used to be my favorite. Now my friends play 2:20
and my teacher gets so mad
I spent a good 30 min searching for that song
This my ultimate favorite so smooth
do you know the name of the song?
I got it in Febuary this year and its just what I need for the direct line recordings :)
I had this keyboard since I was in 9th grade, I miss it so much. Thanks to my nephew (I don't know which one that broke it) but it brings me back alot of memories.
My childhood is returning...
@musicmaniac1965 Thank you very much for your comment! If I make some of my own performances on the PS-6100, I will defenately post them on youtube and in direct line to show how good of a keyboard it was at the time and it still sounds awesome today :). I will also one day show all the sounds and rhythms of the PS-6100 keyboard.
Kind regards
Michael
In my school, we have these exact keyboards. When we enter the classroom, a group of the boys in the class will run to the keyboard, turn the first demo song on and start doing Fortnite dances? (they say the dances are from the game) It doesn't help it really annoys the teacher and gets them warnings/C1s and C2s (our warning system is confusing; a C1 is a verbal warning, a C2 is a final verbal warning, a C3 is you get moved to a different classroom and a C4 is Base/Quantum, somewhere where you literally speak to nobody and they make you sit in silence for the entire day). It gets old though... VERY quickly.
Oh snap
Dude, I totally dig your narrative style.
Awesome.
I remember back in 2016 when I discovered your channel, this is the first video I ever watch in my life from you. The Yamaha PSR 170 is my very first keyboard. I played when I was two years old.
How often you play with your PSR 170?
My friend used to have a similar keyboard and she says that song number 2 is her most favorite. I think that this keyboard is super cool. I own a PSRE 413 and a PSRE 223 which are still in great working order. Most of the songs played here are on my PSRE 223. Still, I think that this video quality is just amazing.
i own a psr 260 and i have videos up on my channel of it. you should check them out. there is also a yamaha ez 150 which i am thinking of getting. i wonder where i can find an ez 150
Hello, you are right, they are not touch sensitive and there are no differences between the 2 models spec wise.
Hope this helps :)
2:20 at my school, my friends play this song to annoy the teacher and to be funny and it is really funny. My friend plans on making an earrape version. 😂
cap!
This video is why I wake up in the morning
7:40 we love to play the drums to it and she'd
the first 5 songs really show what this keyboard can really do and because it borrows samples from the psr 260 which came out the year before the psr 170 also makes it the cheaper option than the psr 260.the psr 175 came when the psr 172 was discontinued in 2004 i think it was.my favourite most of all is the dj dancing demo at number 4. one of the reasons why i was browsing ebay for a yamaha psr 170 being sold near where i lived but i saw my chance when i saw the psr 260 on sail and to this day i still have it and like the psr 170, it is an excellent keyboard.
2:19 I remember in year 9 back in school we used to play that song and the music teacher would get so mad at us 😂
The last demo song #5 reminds me of a Super Hero theme. 7:42
17:18 slick intro :D
Better than todays music
I've still got MY Yamaha PSR-170
It has everything the PSR-170 has, even one touch settings.
20:58
very nice, great demo
4:52 besttt
OMG I had that keyboard when I was a child ♥
I know the song at 20:58 is another version of Canon by Pachelbel. But can i have a link to this version. Or at least the version's name? THANKS.
20:11
My first keys when i was 7 years old
I used to have this exact same keyboard 🎹 when I was in Elementary School. I'm kind of sad 😭 that I sold it in High School.
upload the psr 195
13:10 - Chaves (El Chavo)
@memo2301 This Keyboard is the PSR-170
There are no differences between them, just a different colour on certain parts of the keyboard
@carmelangel98 The demo song doesn't have a specific name, it is just called "DemoSong" and its demo number 2 but on the PSR-270 the same song is called "TakeOff!"
Hope this helps :)
Great demonstration songs than my Casio CTK-1300, I must find this PSR-170 for my own in some day.
NoO NuU Ebay is a good place to start.
Got it, sound good than CTK 1300 is really.
@@noonuu8557 its awesome. use the dj sounds and you have a combination of coolness
How you record sound of your talking and sound of keyboard? Your main camera did have a mic input?
I think the name of the song is Turkish March
Thank you for your videos. I was wondering could you do a review or explanation of all the functions of the PSR170 like you did with your PSR270 or are they about the same? I am preparing to buy a used PSR170 from a person in my community.
Franko S. Thank you for your comment! I reviewed a keyboard a few years back which is exactly the same as this keyboard, it’s called the PSR-262.
The keyboard is exactly the same as this keyboard, but the one and only difference is that the PSR-262 has touch sensitive keys, the PSR-170 did not have touch sensitive keys but all the sounds and functions are exactly the same.
Thanks for watching!
Franko S. Hello again, I know you left this comment over a year ago now, but I have now done videos showcasing everything in the PSR-170 so please do check them out!
@petedog The Song is: Marcia Alla Turca (L.v. Beethoven)
Hope this helps :)
I have a PSR-170
Price??? Tell me bro
@@ahari529 I don’t know the price once we got it, let’s say $149
I was assuming a demonstration would perhaps show more of a hands on "showing the functions". I guess I'll have to look for a tutorial. Either way, thanks for the vid
I know it’s a very late reply, but I have done full showcases of this keyboard over a year ago including a tutorial, feel free to check them out
I Like The Songs on the PSR-170 Especially Minuet in G by J.S. BACH and I Keep Playing that Song on my PSR-175 and my PSR-E333.
i keep playing song 58 on my psr 260, furusato. as well as 57 the song before it which is called hamabe no uta
That song is just named "Demo 5" as this is just one of yamahas demo songs and not an actual song cover
7:44 *S O N O S T A L G I C* !!!!!!!!!!!
Otaku Gamer I was thinking the same :O
Thanks for the timestamp, that's the one I keep playing at school on the keyboards
The first tune sounds like something from Transport Tycoon. And that's not a bad thing.
13:09 que legal!!! ele toca a musica do Chaves!!!! quero esse teclado só por causa disso
It sounds just like something from Super Mario Galaxy! :D
@KeyboardKrazy49 Thank you.
My model has a bug. Sometimes when I change the styles it doesn't adjust the time and the related voice. But this doesn't appen every time
KeyboardKrazy49, can you get Casio MA-150 and make a video about all the 50 songs in the song bank?
It is just called "Demo 1" so no specific name for it :)
Nice one! I know you have the PSR-E333 and the PSR-260 already, when did you get the PSR_175? I have the PSR-170 as you know which is exactly the same as the one you got :)
GAAAAASP! That's the keyboard I have been wanting to get!😆😆
@@BobbieTheTechGuy I’m pretty sure you can get much better current keyboards nowadays, you want to get the PSR-260, but it’s the same as what you’ve got now, you could go for a PSR-E373 or a PSR-E463 which would be much better
@@KeyboardKrazy49 Actually, I would like to get the PSR 260.
@@BobbieTheTechGuy but it’s pretty much like the one you’ve got, why don’t you grow out of these beginner keyboards, (I know I got the PSR-170 and still have it as it was my first keyboard ever), grow out of these keyboards and get something like the PSR-SX600 or the SX900 because it seems to me like the PSR-170/260 is all you ever bang on about when writing comments on this channel
It was the best keyboard I ever played on in middle school.
Dont need that keyboard, I'd have it if I got given one but the PSR-270 had all the featres of the PSR-340, the only differences is that the PSR-340 had a floppy disk drive, only difference there is.
hey, may i ask you a favour? would you like to buy new medeli mc37 keyboard and do the review based on 100 demonstration songs? i would appreciate that because i'm keyboard crazy, too, and i'm pretty interested in demo songs of medeli series keyboards. please!
At 8:00 whats this called?
Do you guys know the style for this song 20:12
Its like folk country...
3:30
@KeyboardKrazy49 sorry, which is better, psr 85 or psr 170?? Thanks.
OML tank yuh!!
A PSR 170 is the same as a PSR 175?
momikyu Yes it is exactly the same hardware inside, but the casing is a different color
mmkay! just because my school has PSR-175s and YPT-220s!
@@KeyboardKrazy49 Even the PSR-172
Would somebody please tell me the name of the song @ 18:16?
Beethoven - Symphony No. 9, Fourth movement
🎹
Whats the name of the song at 11:30???
Ive been trying so hard to look for it .
Turkish March by Mozart aka Rondo Alla Turca
U definitely stole this from school
I wish lol, this was my first ever keyboard I got for my 14th birthday
@@KeyboardKrazy49 Lollll where i am we have these exact keyboards with the notes wrote down and everything, they play the beatles for the demo song
Anyone know if I can add or change voices, may be mod them or download new ones from the internet to this keyboard?
MrColdDub, greetings from Canada.
Your questions are vague, but I will try to answer....
Add Sounds____
a) Layering 2 sounds together onboard. NO, but YES, via MIDI editor.
When using a MIDI Editor software, be mindful that this keyboard offers 16 note polyphony, so when laying tracks via editor, do not exceed 16 notes at one time.
The Demo songs are an excellent example of what can be done with a MIDI Editor but your new creations cannot be stored onboard as there is no built-in recorder on this model.
b) Add sounds to the internal onboard100 voice sound bank - NO
In other words, you cannot delete or add to the existing sound bank on this model.
c) Add sounds from another instrument. NO and YES. You cannot MIDI to another instrument and hear its sounds through your PSR-170 (PSR-172 or PSR-175), but you CAN control or receive via MIDI. If using Master-Slave relationship, you must patch both instruments Audio out to a common mixer or equivalent device to hear the combined sounds simultaneously.
Change Voices____
a) NO. You cannot change the onboard voices. They are fixed. This is not a synthesizer per se as ther are no controllers or ocillators or other sound architecture envelopes to manipulate onboard. All sounds on this instrument are static or fixed.
b) YES (Limited). By using the PHONES jack, patch out to any post sound processor (using the processors onboard effects), mixer (heighten sharpness, brilliance, etc), or even a guitar effects pedal (example- Flanger, Delay, etc) to achieve limited analogue manipulation of any of the sounds. Then patch that unit to your amplifier or stereo to hear the results.
c) Digital Post Manipulation may be achievable through MIDI and-or VST softwares...yours to discover.
Download new voices/sounds from Internet____
NO. Again, the onboard sound bank is fixed and cannot be added to on this model (PSR-170, PSR-172 or PSR-175)
You CAN however, download probably millions of MIDI performance files and, using a MIDI Editing software, insert a MIDI file into the software, then send it back to your keyboard. No Guarantees on the success of results unless the MIDI file was created using the same model of keyboard.
Essentially, the MIDI file contains the instructions of performance and settings from the brain of the originating instrument to yours. Therefore if a MIDI file was created on another identical keyboard, it will work flawlessly. If the MIDI file is from another keyboard make or model, only the performance data will transmit successfully (hopefully). Solo Piano pieces will work out best for this, but you can do post editing later if you have the time and energy.
I hope this answers all of your questions, and I typed this response with mindfullness that others and beginners alike are reading along.
I would like to add one other thought....
This is an entry level keyboard only. It does not feature touch or Velocity response. I am unsure if it will respond to Touch or Velocity or even Pitch Bend & Modulation commands if used as a MIDI Slave. I'll leave that to someone else to explore, or, you can read carefully the MIDI Implementation Chart at the back of yor Owners Manual. It will either say Yes or No if it is mentioned at all.
All Owners Manuals are available free online via this link:
www.yamaha.co.jp/manual/english/search.php?div=emi
and a big thanks to Yamaha for being so generous!
Lastly, for those who are learning to play piano, this is NOT an appropriate instrument. But an acoustic piano OR a digital piano with Weighted Keys and also buy the Sustain Pedal. You'll need both.
Yes, I used to work for Yamaha Retail in Canada.
The madness never ends it seems with families coming to the stores and no matter how well-intentioned, they seldom listened to our advice to purchase a proper instrument for educational use.
The PortaSound and PortaTone series' were designed for people who already play but alas, families all too often play it cheap instead of making a proper investment in music education. This is why these lower end keyboards exist. They fulfill the Quick Fix mentality and this is why you see them continually for sale cheap everywhere. Without proper training, they all too often become abandoned.
In fairness though, and in the hands of a skilled or at least dedicated owner, this keyboard can offer many pleasing suprises and results.
Quite an achievment for a starter keyboard.
Cheers!
Patricia J Oh you answered my question, thanks very much!
No you can't, it's pretty much a keyboard you get your child if you think they might get bored of it in 6 months
@@patriciaj1291 the psr 260 has the same midi implamentation but has touch sensitive keys. the ez150 has recently caught my attention. i love the old yamaha keyboards especially this one
