...Boy ,am I ever looking forward to see how much algae grows in the scrubber, its effectiveness vs. pathos, etc. This is one great educational channel !!
I haven't even watched the video yet but I can tell that this is going to be another fantastic video from Cichlid Bros. Love the content! Keep up the great work.
Great to see Saltwater gear moving to freshwater and especially African cichlid scene. If i was to return to riftlake cichlids i'd definitely have a sump with an automated fleece roller filter and an algae scrubber and maybe even carbon dosing.
I had a 300” screen on my freshwater tank. Unfortunately you just get hair algae and it sheds like crazy. Hopefully you don’t have that issue with this system. Can’t wait to see it
Really would be interested in seeing a comparison between the scrubber vs other options. $600 is a lot. Other option would be adding a light in the sump to grow pothos and/or floating plants.
Yeah that’s definitely what I’m going to try and show over time. I’ve heard it’s more efficient than standard plants or Pothos since it’s controlled lighting and constant flow. I also can’t have Pothos due to my cats lol
@@CichlidBros cats can’t get into the sump, can they? My cat doesn’t touch my pothos. You can also try Peace Lily, Lucky Bamboo, or floating plants such as water hyacinth, Amazon frogbit, or African water lettuce. Floating some fast growing stem plants inside the water such as hornwort or anacharis can work as well.
I grew pothos on my african cichlid tank. The pothos was beautiful and happy, grew super fast and large. But I’ll be honest, I didn’t see any noticeable difference to my nitrates.
Such a Beautiful tank. I love this channel AND thank you for being transparent and showing the cost. A lot of people show these toys and equipment but don't really explain what they do in a sense. Appreciate you guys.
that Eastern hap interest me....looks like a stunner....im looking for yellow colours in my 150...that is probably the way to go.....tank looks great....;)
Could get some tin snips and snip off the little piec of aluminum that is blocking the light bracket but I could see why you wouldn't want to do that for the warranty
Hey Troy! I love your videos! You helped me so much to set up my south American Cichlid tank! My questions are: 1: how many peacock cichlids can inhave in a 75 gallon tank with a fluval FX6?
An algae scrubber is an incredible way to remove nitrates and other toxins, metals however the biggest mistake people make is doing less water changes…as you mentioned…the problem with this is that while you are lowering you’re nitrates…water born parasites, bacterias are still present and water changes help remove these!
Hi bros I am from India 🇮🇳 Your work is really fantabulos. I have a doubt. I wanna build 10 feet length x 5 feet depth x 5 feet height aquarium. How much mm thickness toughened glass we need to use. Please guide. Regards & namaste.
A question for the Cichlid Bros. I am setting up my first mixed peacock and hap tank similar to the one in this video. I only have a 75 gallon tank though, and I would like to put about 16 fish into it. Is that too much for that size of tank?
I guess I don't really know much about this fish cause every fish he showed look gray... He kept saying all these colors but I didn't see none of those colors. .. All I sing with gray.... But I guess they turned those colors when they get bigger I guess...
The algae scrubber isn't new technology.. it's what we saltwater guys call a refugium.. grow the green planes somewhere it doesn't matter to take the nutrients from the water column.. then they cannot grow in the main tank.. and it's more of a phosphate export unit than a nitrate export.. still gotta do water changes... but your display tank will be green algae free if you grow enough elsewhere..

Love new fish day, the sapphire blue is my fave, great vid for info and beautiful entertainment ❤ thanks Troy 🐟 👍

Thanks for sharing the update. Kudos to Imperial Tropicals. Their fish are top notch.
I just got my star sapphire last week from them. Beautiful fish.
Very nice!
Looking great as always, Troy!!!
Thanks again!
Great work brother , next time set a fancy goldfish tank ❤
I have an eastern hap and sapphire as well from imperial. they are both stunning fish as they mature!
Awesome. I was already excited about the star sapphire but the eastern Hap was a surprise find!
Awesome. The blue star sapphire I believe is a beautiful fish you will really enjoy that one for sure💯💗✌️👍
I think so too!

Can’t underestimate Chester and Rambo. They have shredded any plants I’ve kept in the house lol

@@robertjohnston25 what if you grew like 75 pothos instead of 1?
Such a Beautiful tank.

Very cool set up. Love the fish
Thank you!
Nice additions! A cheaper alternative to the algae scrubber could be to grow plants in the sump (it would be nowhere near as neat though).
Agreed! Heard it’s very efficient so looking forward to testing 👍🏻
Nice additions to the tank!
Thanks 👍
Good choice of New fishes bro and scrubber will help u a lot in reducing water changes...I especially like sapphire fish.🎉❤😊
Thank you!

Another beauties on board💪💪💪
👊🏻👊🏻
Nice bro nice pickups i have had each of those fish in the past
Thank you, excited to have them!
I know this seems crazy but the malawi barracuda does very well with peacocks and haps.

Now that you added more, so did I lmao
the eastern haps are actually pretty common invasives in florida
Have you done a review of the fluval E300 heater?

Yep, I’ll still do periodical changes, but likely less volume and far less often
Hey @cichlidbros did you guys know the peeps at old orchard aquarium opened up a new store?
We heard but haven’t been yet!

Can the scrubber fit into a 30" tall stand or do I have to go with a 36" stand if I want to use it?
Depends on the height of your sump. You just need about 11-12 inches from top of sump to stand to fit it
Can I keep haps and mbuna cichlid together?....i haven't any idea regarding about that....
This video should help. Haps have the same considerations as keeping peacocks with mbuna: ua-cam.com/video/HE6iOtAInHU/v-deo.html

Should be fine with peacocks or some of the smaller haps. Predatory haps and some of the larger common haps probably need a 6ft tank
@@CichlidBros Thank you very much for the information and the quick response. I appreciate it.
What is the name of that aquarium, should I check if it exists in the EU? Thank you
Weird choice - quarantining those rift valley fish with the south American acara..???
Only did for the two deep water haps as I needed other tanks to QT the new discus tank mates
whats up
$600 and they give you a cheap flood light that costs $30? Ouch.
Seems to work very well based on reviews. That’s why I’m testing it…
Couldn't you just grow plants in the filter
Yep. But I’ve heard the algae scrubber is more efficient
It's cool I've never seen one before
I guess I don't really know much about this fish cause every fish he showed look gray... He kept saying all these colors but I didn't see none of those colors. .. All I sing with gray.... But I guess they turned those colors when they get bigger I guess...
Welcome to having young cichlids…

I will still do water changes, but it should reduce nitrates and the amount of changes significantly
