      Starbuks is not a career choice. Should be a minimum wage for high school kids financing their next piercing or tattoo. Things have gotten blown out of all proportion in the last few decades. Fill the cup and give it to me....and shut up or I'll make my own at home!

      Boot licking is wild. These companies make record profits and wages don't increase despite higher prices for customers. I'm a white collar engineer, and even I think bootlicking for automation is weird

I found the secret foutain of Arabica coffee beans! If you promise not to tell (Costco! less then $4/pound). Quit paying 3rd grade educated tattoo'd pierced extortionists for coffee.

      @@jackie41083 It’s not a career. It’s a job for kids transitioning to their next phase of life. Of course it’s not a livable wage. I worked a lot of jobs like this to work my way to an engineering degree. If Barista is a career choice, you need counseling. If you love it, fine but don’t expect a “living wage”. I sometimes needed 2 jobs to make it…but it was expected. No big deal.

    If the CEO of starts was paid only 10X a regular employee and the salary was split amongst baristas, each barista would make only 30 cents more per hours in the US. So the CEOs 35 million$ salary means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

    KEURIG + refillable KCups = STFU * Baristas. Coffee costs less than $4/pound. Keep on walking out, and away. If Starbucks closed tomorrow, nobody would care and local shops would be thrilled.

    I just make instant at home. The cost of coffee + 10 oz. bottled water + a dash of flavored creamer - Total cost of those 3 ingredients divided by my usage per cup = .26 cents a cup

    Will be interesting to see the robotic options Starbucks invests in to manage the work behind their front counters wether it is the same companies who build the tech for Mcdonalds or not.

      With Luckin coffee entering the US soon, I wonder if these two factors will push starbucks over the edge and pursue "craft" automated cafes. Especially considering that's Luckin's format and they have been INSANELY successful at beating out starbucks. Starbucks already has some locations that are automated and/or self-service in Asia, so they have been toying with the idea...

    An employee is not entitled to the same salary as a CEO. Sbux unionizing and going on strike is the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen in years. What is next, McDonald’s workers start striking? Get real skills to unionize with.

    Not only do i dislike Starbucks, i also dislike people that purchase starbucks. Starbucks is pretentious and over priced crap. I feel for the baristas bit they are also complicate in the situation as they have continually chosen to stay with a company that doesn't match their personal values. Its mot easy to quit ones job and find another, i am in the same boat, but if they really want to make a point they should all quit.

    The tone of the union is clearly aggressive toward SBUX…but SBUX isn’t moving that fast to provide a counteroffer.
    SBUX appears that they don’t feel a real need to counter beyond a de minimus level. Seriously, is there some kind of shortage of others that would take those jobs in a heartbeat?
    This isn’t intended to be snarky. It’s intended as a reality check of Economics 101.

      It is unreasonable for largely unskilled labor to expect to coast at a low skill low wage job forever expecting that their market value magically increases. The way to raise your wage is by pursuing new roles. If turnover is too high, THEN an employer might consider wage increases.

      @@wafflewafflegod you say this as if its easy. the nature of low skill work is that turnover is high and advancement is had to come by. for adults working minimum wage or near minimum wage jobs you simply dont have the luxury to consistently move up the corporate chain. the higher ups at mcdonalds didnt all start as fry cooks from poor families they are all out of the corporate class

    I think it's faulty logic to think that the CEO is paik 10k times more because they work that much more. I believe the company pays your worth. In the case of a CEO, they are worth as much as 10,000 regular baristas to the company.

      @@dan1142 Well, they are being paid the market rate/conditions. If a competitor offers a better wage, the employees are free to leave, since there is no contract etc. But since they aren't leaving, then it means they are already being paid the best.
