    As always - Fantastic, Fun and Factual. Especially looking forward to seeing what you think of the new TOY! Question: I thought the purpose of the stir plate was to deliver a constant input of oxygen to build stronger cell walls? Yes, you can do without the stir plate, and stir plates can be a ripoff, ($80 - REALLY?!?!?!) but you can build a kickass stirplate out of a computer fan or cheap fan and glue some harbor freight magnets to it!

    Hi fella's, great content! I'm retired now and just starting my foray into home brewing and quite interested in this yeast jump starting thing. Thing is, I've recently read that this starter technique doesn't work well with dry yeast. I'm wondering if you might shed some light on this topic? I'm asking because I've also read that liquid yeast doesn't travel or do well in warm temps, hence the ice packs. It's important to me because I now live in the tropics of the Philippines, and everything takes a while to get here. Pretty sure ice packs would be a non factor before they ever arrived at our front gate. Anything you could pass along regarding this dilemma would be much appreciated! Thanks fella's, Freeman

    • @TheGavranatar
      @TheGavranatar 2 роки тому +1

      You don't really need a starter with dry yeast because cell numbers are maintained really well in dry form. It won't do any harm (I've made starters with them and they've been fine) but you dont need to. Rehydrating is still recommended to give them a headstart. The selection of dry yeast now is superb so if you live in a warm country i'd recommend it. If you dont have temp control for fermentation you need to check out kveik yeast, it loves warm temps

    • @HOMEBREW4LIFE
      @HOMEBREW4LIFE  4 роки тому

      yeah i don't have the outlet for 220v, it's all good tho. It heats up fast. Anvil sent it, so we didn't really have the option, but i'm cool with 5 gallon batches. Cheers Ruan!

    • @dantedeluca978
      @dantedeluca978 4 роки тому

      Yeah, we're lucky in Australia that our outlets are 240V as standard, just had to change a plug for 15amp.
      I recently got a 65L Brewzilla so I know the wort is exactly the same in two different fermenters and can pitch two different yeasts and better hone which is my favorite strain for different styles of beer. Then in future maybe same wort, yeast and only difference is the dry hoping.

    have been using small ultrasonic cleaners for making Aging alcohol Cannabis edibles, Tinctures and Coloidal Silver.I had the Idea to try it on my Fermentation of grain mash. My hopes were to make the mash into smaller particles and increasing surface area. I hoped to increase Bioavailability for the yeast. The 6 gal. plastic bucket I used for it kept blowing its top off as the bubbler was unable to keep up with the new rate of fermentation. I had to resort to taping the lid down with duct tape, Watching the bucket bulge from unreleased pressure and hoping it did not explode. !!WARNING DO NOT USE A GLASS VESSEL FOR FERMENTING IF YOU SHOULD TRY THIS METHOD!! I had hoped to show the increased speed of fermentation in this video. I made two mistakes. I used some pretty old yeast and I did not malt the grain first.
    Still the control had not even started before the ultrasounde grain had filled its bag full. I believe if I had used a malted grain and newer Yeast the results would have been more dramatic for you to see. I am very new to brewing, only three batches with using ultrasound to decrease particle size the third batch. I did try a sugar wash 4th batch using the ultrasound but saw no changes in the speed of fermentation. . I am hoping someone with a better set up and greater brewing knowledge can experiment with this and show the actual rate of increase. (I believe it to be about 300% or better)
    This could have a major significance in such a large market as alcohol and fuel.A factor to consider is stirring the grai water mixture in the ultrasound as a heavy layer of grain at the bottom may reduce effectiveness. I used a 60 watt, 40khz ultrasound unit with just one transducer on this video . On the earlier bucket run I used a home made unit with two 40 khz transducers. Finding the optimal range of transducers, frequency , volume, stir rate and length of time I leave to future brewers with more capital and time to find
