- This is a bonus episode on the Mercedes 190e resurrection, the logbook arrived so I took it for an MOT and shock! it failed... So over the last week or so I've been working on getting it sorted and today it went for it's re-test.
I've also licked the bottom with a bucket of Waxoil to protect it while I use it over the winter.
What a gracious knowledgeable entertaining human being . A joy. A credit to his family. Every time I tune in there is a warm welcome and viewer delight. Tommy Cooper meets Isambard Brunel.
You really should be renewing springs and shock absorbers in pairs. What you did was fine for passing the MoT (I changed a front shock absorber on a Fiat 500 for the MoT but I did the other side soon after it passed the retest). Those bolts are testament to Mercedes build quality of that era.
+1
yep thought the same as you, also MB springs have a colour in them to identify the right one regarding the weight of the car depending on the engine/gearbox and the equipment.
Most likely had to stay within customer's budget. If it were my Benz, I would want to drive it for 6 months or so, to verify engine transmission function, and then decide how much further to go with repairs. I drive an '04 E320 with 160+ thousand miles.
Excellent restoration on this old bus really enjoyed the journey
Late to the party watching this channel. Absolutely brilliant content. I can’t wield and spanner but love cars and this is brilliant content. Please keep it coming.
Nice update on this car! Bet mum was happy to know your safe to 😂
Brilliant for the age thats a great result for the MOT
Loving Tasty Classics! Keep up the excellent work. 👍
You’ve done a fantastic job on this Mercedes. Great to watch. Love the way you’re so chilled when things go wrong too. Great Chanel and love your vehicle renovations. 👌👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Lovely car saved from the scrappers again. Hard to believe people will just abandon a car because of a clutch slave cylinder failure. New cars are not built to same quality as older stuff. "Old is gold".
Great job on the merc shes a A tasty classic , love the humour you put into you videos a great mix of being informative and humour keep up the good work
Hi grate to see u kerping all the classics on the road fellow petrol head here keep it up 👍
Great update on your vintage Merc. Keep up the great work and humor!
Hi Ben, now you need an evo kit, like all krauts want to have for retrofitting 😂 Greetings and cheers from Berlin, Germany. Marcus 🎉
That call home to Mum cracked me up!
Subscribed a couple of weeks ago. Love the channel keep up the good work.
I think it's brilliant watching you what you do good-looking from Mick Joyce
Recently came across your channel, I really enjoy it, and have subscribed to it. Brings back memories of my younger days where you could buy a car from scrap yard that still had about a months mot and tax, didn't have the luxury of a cold garage, it was cold pavement in all weathers, keep up the good work , do know if you still have the scimitar, how about a ford pinto in it or the zetec,
Keep em coming, I’m hooked 👍👍
Brownie points for saying your fond farewells to your ma before tackling the scary coil spring aka potential decapitation device, ahh it touched my heart! 😌. I've heard that when those ball joints let go, the lower arm can drop to the floor and your front wheel goes south. Mine are making strange noises on full lock so guess I'll find out pretty soon! Was sooo hoping you'd give us some footage of a test drive after completion and right at the end you delivered. Wonderful seeing that 3 pointed star on the end of the bonnet as the old girl silently wafts along, seems like a nice cosy place to be during these murky days. 😉
Haha she was very pleased! I wish the drive at the end could of been a bit longer but could hardly see anything, i've done a few hundred miles in it now though, going really well.
Good job from an expat in Florida, where it’s not three degrees.
🤣 jealous!
ii have loved watching this.looking at sad audi though my kitchen going remember me??!

Thanks mate!
Fantastic series Ben, really enjoying watching all your challenges, from your new follower in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. I grew up and lived in the UK from 1969 to 2007, so most of the vehicles you’ve brought life to, I remember from donkeys years ago! Thank you and keep up the great work in saving some motors from the scrappy! Cheers! Alan Bellingham
This was an excellent series I watched it back to back loved the way you bought this car back on the road instead of it being a tin can look forward to the next one
Thank you! Hoping plenty more like it next year.
Thank you so very much for your helpful advice and fantastic entertainment 🎉
That's very kind thank you so much!
Just catching up on your videos. Really enjoying them. Getting me through the New Year Limbo....
Thanks Andy!
Those mercedes lower ball joint boots split almost every mot.
Found your channel yesterday - since then have not only binge watched the Rascal Project, but also the CE and now the 190 = amazing work that you’re doing, and really love your humour!
Keep ‘em comin’!

I was going to comment ‘wire brush and a can of mot on that spring and all will be well’ until I saw it shortly after and that it had already snapped 😅
Loving your videos, really enjoying your work.
New subscriber to your channel here and loving your video uploads sooooooooooooooooo much. I had to replace the following parts on my 58 plate 1.6 Tdci Focus a few weeks ago (in freezing conditions, with 2x layers of clothing on lol) 1x EGR Valve, 1x Air Filter and 1x Fuel Filter. Air filter was easy enough, although access to 1x of the air filter box bolts i had to release the fuse box wiring harness to get at the bolt. The EGR valve i let my son who's on his motor mechanics apprentiship do that for me and the fuel filter wasn't to hard to change out, after watching a couple of Y/Tube video's on how to remove and replace the darn thing.
I'm noway experienced or savvy with fixing or doing stuff on cars but i've enjoyed working on my Focus and after replacing those parts, my car is driving like a dream (i still think it was a fault with my cars fuel filter).
Great video and a few helpful tips on saving money. I hate working on cars when it all goes wrong. When it's a doddle I love it.
Excellent channel, mate. Looking forward to seeing more projects.
That wax brillant job make it look like new motor
Nother excellent video...... try Dinatrol instead of waxoyl...... especially in box section s and cavities
awesome work all round restore great to watch well done
really loving this channel!!
Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit was European, as was Celsius, just our American cousins like to make life difficult for themselves 😊

Keep it up lad you ll do well for yourself
Looks wonderful
Just subscribed today. Thought you did a great job. Love these cars . I had a 2.0 it automatic on a j plate in 2010. Only had it a couple of years but what a fantastic car. Looking forward to seeing more of what your doing . Cheers
Great job, well done.👍
Great content Bud
Job well done!
You should do both sides when doing springs and shocks.
Nice work anyways.
4:50 best part of the video 😂
another 5 STAR
Great video 😂
There is nothing more satisfying than a dose of wax oil under a dry car
It's so frustrating when you receive a failure on the MOT, then find out the tester can not namethe failed component.
I had a failure which just said front both side pins severely worn or bushes worn out.
t ended up being the top rubber mounts on the shock absorbers.???
Gone are the days when the testers used to mark all of the faults with a yellow marker, then there is no guessing work.
Shock absorber and springs not changed as a pair huh ? And no safety mask when spraying cmon dude - enjoyable series though many thanks. 🙏
nicework
Love the channel I have had several of these 190s and found them to be brilliant ..they will usually do sky miles ....have you sold this one yet and how much are you asking if not ......carry on the good work ..........Mick
It's currently on eBay for £2995, cheers Mick!
Just bought a 2.6 one of these , that ball joint condom thingy is an advisory on mine , just need the kit you got , where was it from
'hello, I'm fucked!' 🤣
How do you pass the MOT with 4 different tires? I thought the minimum requirement is to have the same type of tread on one axle. I know the Isles drifted away from the EU continent even more but still...
I'm surprised that it's not one of the failure points.
You can have any make or pattern of tyre you want, your not permitted to mix crossply with radial or different sizes however.
your quite ok for a record dealer
Why it’s me old ginja buttercup, how are you my little petal?
Have you sold the stazi wagon ?
Hi ya that is the worst thing you can do with the screen they say just normal heat from the heater will do or put the air-conditioning on the screen
That’s crap, I’ve worked early morning shifts all my life (30yrs ) and used warm water to defrost the screen every time and has never ever damaged the screen!
It's done me well for over 20 years, just don't use boiling! only warm!
This for sale please 👌😇
Would like to see the jobs being done not to show already done
V 6. Fix
lol talk about the cheapest possible bodgy resto. furry muff i suppose
