I keep hearing the term Reagan conservative in the context of government spending as opposed to trumps prolifigacy but deficits and debt increased substantially under Reagan
Right. They can't say with a straight face that they are conservatives.
Reagan spending had to do with the cold war with Russia, so lets be Factual! Biden is Deliberately destroying the world and enriching his family! voters aren't stupid! well maybe there are a few, Joe's got 8% of the support!
Very interesting. Like it. I am an Independent turned Democrat ONLY because of the rise of MAGA. Glad to see rational conservative minds at work. Refreshing. Even though I am a right to choose position with reasonable restrictions on abortion
What does "Reagan Conservative" even mean in 2024? The Soviet Union is gone, and Reagan's confrontation of it in that historical moment is his legacy. If "Reagan Conservative" just means getting involved in wars all over the world, or trying to assert American military dominance in other hemispheres, how's that gone over the last 20+ years? It's not the 80's anymore. The world has changed and the overwhelming dominance America enjoyed after 1989 has receded. It's time for Conservatives (and Republicans) to adopt a Realist foreign policy and abandon ideas of hegemony that made sense during the Cold War but no longer have any context and are detrimental to American power and credibility. In general, Conservatives have been foreign policy dominated in their worldview but that is another legacy of the Cold War that doesn't make sense anymore: going back to non-interventionism of the prewar era is a return to the normal state of affairs that was disrupted by the Cold War. Resisting this trend is just another sign that Conservatives are stuck in a Reaganite mindset that's actually harmful at this point.
Over the last twenty years we've seen Europeans choose to become dependent on Russian energy and that has been disasterous. Cold war thinking would have prevented that. The world has not changed as much as you claim. The twenty years of foriegn policy that you claim were 'Reaganite' include many variations of policies from Obama and others and unfortunately none of them stand out as being the right way forward.
Ceding to Russia and China and other authoritarians isn't a realistic assessment of what's in America's best interests. Assuming you want America to continue in the tradition of western "liberal democracy."
@curtisevans4100 America has historically conducted itself diplomatically with all kinds of governments and systems. If American policy makers continue to berate foreign leaders and hand out moral report cards like some kind of school teacher, it will isolate itself and wreck its ability to conduct diplomacy and get what it wants on the international stage. This isn't the Cold War, there is no "Democracy Team" vs. "Authoritarian Team." Only the United States and a bunch of other countries.
Of course there is an authoritarian team, it's headliners are Russia and China. They know the score, we'd better not lose track of it ourself. We can pretend this isn't the case, but it won't go away. MAGA is just the same old ignorant isolatists we suffered through in the 1930s, who think we can wall ourselves off from the rest of the world. The US will be in a lonely place in a sea of authoritarian governments, though if we go the Trump route we may end up one of them. Trump obviously has great admiration for authoritarians who rule over their subjects with iron fists. He has real dictator penis envy. @@tb8865
1.) Strongest Against Adversaries
2.) Stronger Economy, Lower Deficits
3.) More Law and Order
Amen to that!
Yes that sounds like Trump
The problem is the way the money system is set up, to benefit a few J@@ws, to hell with the rest of us! as Ron Paul says audit the Fed!
Rational all the way until discussion of women lol. No wonder we can’t have nice things 🤣🤣
Sarah Longwell CLEARLY says for Biden. She does say she is helping build an Anti-Trump Coalition more than a Pro-Biden Coalition. But she endorsed Biden in 2020 and has for 2024.
Good show!
Thank you David. I'm a Christian and I watch you on Holy Post. I appreciate your realistic approach. Yeah, conservative Christians for Biden!
You don't know what Christian means. Otherwise, you won't support what God hates.
Even the Catholic Church rejected Biden because of his support for unrestricted abortion.
Turkeys for Christmas!!
If I want to talk about a conservatism that served the American people, I’d skip over “Reagan conservatism” and start with Eisenhower conservatism. It was a species of conservative politics that held capital in check, that built infrastructure, one in which the middle class thrived and corporations and the rich (who weren’t “that” rich by modern standards) payed their fair share of taxes.
“Mr Gorbachev, tear down that wall” was domestic political theater (the Soviet Union was imploding and Gorbachev was trying for a soft landing already…)
But the populist theater by former silver screen actor was set in motion by the Republican candidate then, and continued to fruition under the small screen actor Trump. As things go, this rightward march towards authoritarian rule was born of the 1980’s.
Regarding the goals of the pro-life movement, American Evangelicals reversed their position on the issue on the assumption that it would mobilize their voters to elect leaders who would undermine the Civil Rights Act to the point where Evangelicals could segregate again. See "The Religious Right and the Abortion Myth" by Randall Balmer.
That's right Matt, I noticed how Katie Britt asked "Are you better off three years ago than you are now" instead of four years ago. Obviously, she did that for a reason.
3 years ago I was a Nurse in the ICCU taking care of the unvaccinated Covid-19 patients. So yes, we are doing better now than 3 years ago as well.
The answer is still Yes either way.
Regarding Tik Tok, I can see restricting it because of data mining, but not because it is transmitting alleged propaganda. That would violate our First Amendment.
Chinese originated propaganda.
@@lorinelson7523It doesn’t matter where it comes from. You miss the point. You basically say that American propaganda is fine. I want more views. Not less. Not a couple of networks owned by a couple of rich people. The Israel situation is a perfect example of the fact that our media lies until enough outside pressure forces them to shift and they still try to twist things.
Solid Gold.
Women don't like people telling them what they can and can't do with their OWN BODIES. THE END
If it was just the woman's body in question, there would be no issue and no debate. The entire controversy is that many people believe that the fetus is a person, and that there are _two_ bodies in question. Just ignoring the controversy will convince no one.
The issue with the pro-life position under MAGA is that it has a zealotry behind it that doesn't even gel with traditional sources or medical science.
1 traditional Christian view of abortion would be that yes, its immoral, but ensoulment isnt until quickening.
Even fundamentalist Islamic law Would place a cutoff point at 16 weeks, IE quickening.
In the biblical tradition saving the life of a mother is a Paramount value. Sexual assault is biblically prohibited.
The earliest micro-premies to be born and actually survive to the best of our present medical knowledge have been born at 22 weeks. If you're born before that you will not survive under any medically known circumstances. The post Roe MAGA "pro life" movement has gone to extremes.
While Roe vs Wade has been overturned, you now have "pro-life" positions placing limits at 6 weeks or 8 weeks with absolutely no exceptions.
All decision making has been removed from the people directly impacted.
So you're inadvertently telling every woman that's been sexually assaulted, every woman impregnated against her will, every woman with an ectopic/nonviable pregnancy or miscarriage, or other health issues that her autonomy doesn't matter unless she submits herself to a judge who might not even grant her the right to her own decisions about her decision to procreate or not.
That's going to have a chilling effect on the desire for American people to start families, it's already having a chilling effect in them medical profession.
Just consider
Since Roe ended We have had literal children who have been denied access to an abortion in red states, who had to be taken to a blue state to get it done.
Prepubescent Children forced to carry a fetus that could literally easily kill the child forced to carry it. What kind of dystopian hell is that?
An extreme "pro life" position takes what is supposed to be a position rooted in the idea that life has intrinsic value, but it has been turned into a dystopian nightmare with real-world negative effects.
We now live in a country where IVF doctors and OBGYNs in various states are FLEEING those states worried to do their jobs lest they be held legally liable for manslauhter, just for carrying out the normal course of their duties with all the associatwd complexity and uncertainty.
The post roe " pro-life" movement is like the dog who finally caught the car it would chase.
Sorry but the baby isn't the woman's body. The murders shall stop, juden.
When republicans take steps to feed and protect living children… then I’ll believe that it’s just about women’s bodies.
babies are not part of your body. if someone causes you to miscarry, they're liable for the death of the unborn child, so why should'nt you?
The problem. I have with men talking about women's health and who's right. It is to make a decision. Men do not have to deal with the issues that a woman has through her menstrual cycle of life.
Period When I was going through my metaphors I bled for 3 months straight of blood clots. I thought I was dying! We never addressed women's health in this country. History
And your Clot Shots had nothing to do with it, Right! I thought men and women were equal until their not, Right!
I pray that common sense Republicans can save us, I do understand how difficult it will be for them to vote for a Democrat.
The problem isn't Demo or Repub it's the people running the CIA, FBI, etc running these agencies who are unelected Bureaucrats who care less about the voters at large!
Don’t always agree with French, but his thinking about decreasing abortions (instead of banning them) is wise thinking.and he’s correct about Trump’s inability to manage a crisis.
Odd to see Matt on the right side of the screen.
Easy for men to espouse pro life. Pro choice doesn’t necessarily mean pro abortion. I am pro choice, I don’t believe in abortion for me. It’s a personal choice….
I wish people would stop trying to make decisions for women. I don’t believe in abortion for myself but I don’t believe that it’s my business to tell women what to do in their lives. The women who deliver babies they don’t want because it would be difficult to provide for those babies and then those that are trying to stop this right they aren’t going to help these women raise the children they didn’t want.
I live in and around a Big city.Don't see.
A lot of violence going on.I see a lot of homeless and hunger going on . And we've known for a long time that red state's ship their needy off to the blue states.
With a helping hand but we are getting overwhelmed. Also period let's start. Solving the problems instead of just talking about them
Here's a thought, accept Biden as he is. If you want to save the country as you say you do.
#1. David French is NOT a conservative, any more than I am Abraham Lincoln. Liar would be a better moniker
The trouble with our MAGA friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so.
and you know they are just misguided! LOL
Even I from Finland can see the panic
Clear minded analysis by one of our best social / political thinkers. Thanks for lending your voice to the effort to prevent four years of mind numbing authoritarianism. Imagine Steve Bannon, Kerri Lake, Tucker Carlson and Mike Lindell in the Oval Office!!
I Think you forgot about the Crimea, it was in 2015.
Guy's like this have earned my respect and my ear for conservative ideas.
FJB
I printed French's column so that I can highlight factoids to pop at Trump voters I know, including my Dad.
Trump gave PPE to most of the congress and didn’t ask it back 😂
Conservatives, and conservative men in particular, simply cannot grasp the issue of abortion. So-called "sensible pro-life conservatives" like to use this formulation that "the goal is fewer abortions", as if *anyone's* goal is *more* abortions. That is not anybody's objective. The objective of pro-choice people, conservative and not, is *safe and legal* abortion when that is the choice of the people actually involved in the matter.
There are two points that many conservatives, men in particular, are uncomfortable with, and which lurk behind rigid positions on abortion. The first is an assumption that somewhere out there is a hoard of promiscuous, "loose" women who see abortion as some kind of get-out-of-jail-free card for their slutty inclinations, as if abortion is quick, easy, fun, and painless and frees them from responsibility for their behavior. The second, that is behind some conservatives' opposition even to contraception, is that sexuality and sexual pleasure, which men have historically been able to enjoy without dealing directly with the possible outcome of children if they so choose, should not also be available to women.
Nobody is "pro-death'. Nobody is "pro-baby murder". Nobody wants "more" abortions. The Vice President visiting a reproductive health clinic - they are not "abortion clinics"; anyone who works at one, if you bother to talk to them, will tell you that the majority of the services provided have to do with counseling, family planning, and support - is a positive and strong signal that this administration takes women's health, sexuality, and autonomy seriously; that what we want more of are wanted, supported, healthy children, mothers and families.
Bingo. The toughest choice a woman has to make. But they have that right.
@@mikeellafrits6783why is it a tough choice? It’s just healthcare right?
Guess what, French?
Christ is king.
I will honor Ukraine no matter how much Trump wishes to pull support to the minimum!
I'm offended by the lack of testosterone with these two.
Yay, Conservatives for Biden/Harris 🇺🇸
I recall trump inherited a great economy from Obama/Biden era
I just love listening to David French. I tend to agree with almost everything he says (guns are one exception). He is just so smart, well read, and reasoned.
He’s supporting warmongers. At least Donald Trump is attempting to make peace and got us into zero wars during his four years as president.
Trump got a 92% approval rating in Republican party. 😂
Republican party = MAGA!!!
Although I left the Democratic Party 24 years ago….i still tend to lean more democratic.
HOWEVER….I recently realized that I get most of my news and/or political news podcasts from what I like to refer to as Republican Classics.
I feel that all of you are giving the shitshow we all find ourselves in the degree of danger it deserves.
Haha. Indeed. Thanks for watching!
I have never seen someone with so much space between his eyes...wtf. And this video is major cope.
David french is tone deaf abt dobbs
I love Advisory Opinions and hate Trump. But I totally disagree. If you listen to Russia, they say it doesn’t matter who is president, the policies stay the same. The foreign policy establishment, not the American people, determines the policy toward Russia. Moreover, Reagan conservatism is dead, and Trump killed it. It’s never coming back. Even if Trump loses re-election. Reagan’s greatest accomplishment was his economic policy. It was orchestrated by David Stockman, who is Kennedy’s primary economic advisor. If you want a return to sound fiscal policy, vote Kennedy. As for the Russia stuff, you guys have the wrong outlook. We need to stop the NATO expansion that is causing this war. Listen to Jon Mearsheimer, Jeffrey Sachs, etc. This whole “Putin is the boogeyman” misses the historical context. This is their Cuban Missile Crisis.
Conservatives for Biden?. We have never had a president that leaned farther to the left.
Umm. You must be too far Right to see that Biden is a Centrist.
These folks are either totally brainwashed, or they are leftists pretending to be republicans.
Biden is not a lefty. Centrist
Biden has been a complete nightmare. I'll take my chances with Trump again. Americans are begging for change!
He makes a good case for conservatives to vote for Biden. I’m a liberal, so i’ll be voting for Kennedy.
Don't be fooled
You're not a bright person I see.
@@jimako6i’ve listened to all 3 speak: Biden, Trump, Kennedy. i like Kennedy the best.
@@nancychandler3673 meh, i’m a licensed attorney in PA, so bright enough to pass the PA bar on the 1st try. That’s all i can offer as a rebuttal 🤷🏼♂️
There’s no way to be a Christian and support Biden. I’d like to see this pseudo intellectual/pseudo Christian debate with Rosaria Butterfield.
🇺🇸💙🗽Democratic America has the wherewithal to replace TikTok with a similar app!!
