    Hey Man. Great video. Thanks for taking the time to do this video. Those instructions read like stereo instructions. I bought the same kit, found your video, and went step by step with Relatively easy install. I am no mechanic by any means, so having this to walk me through was a huge help. #allblackdodgeram.

      Jose, don't do it. Even without an internal bumpstop the reduction in bump travel is very, very noticeable. I wouldn't advise it at all.

    Great video as always. I recently installed the Timber Grove air bags. Was much easier install than these. Air lines route through the frame so no possible rubbing. Plus you don’t have to cut the bump stops so I can go back to stock if needed.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  2 роки тому

      Damn, that would have been nice. Really didn’t want to cut the bump stops lol. Are the Timber Grove ones newer? I didn’t see them when I was searching for kits.

    Any comment on how the bags are holding up over time? I have been looking at installing these but don't want to spend the money if the bags don't hold up.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  Рік тому

      I actually traded the truck in when the lease was up at the end of 2021, but they were holding up good still. Definitely better than the Air Lift 1000 HD that I originally put in. My only complaint was I could feel the internal bump stop on these bottoming out on moderate bumps when there was no air in the bags. Someone else said they could feel it even without the bump stops inside, so just keep that in mind if ultimate ride quality is your goal. It’s fine with air in the bag, but if you’re empty on a crappy road, the truck can’t soak up bumps quite as well as stock form without the bags.

    Did this cause your truck in the rear to not have much give and ride like crap

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  4 місяці тому

      Yes 😢 Took me a while to notice but I did find the rear end to be more stiff, I assume because the internal bump stops are making contact too soon. I thought of maybe switching for the bags without the bump stops but someone else on here claims those still do the same thing. If that’s true then the only way to avoid it would be to add a little air. Probably why they recommend 5 psi at all times.

    Hey tony create video bud I appreciated it. But I think I’m going to take your advise and get the cheaper setup because of them bump stops. But I still want the stainless lines. Do you by any chance have the specs on those lines and fittings so I can just buy them separate. Thanks again

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  2 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately I’m not sure what size the lines were. Someone else on here also posting saying that the kit without the bump stops still makes the ride stiffer because the bag still bottoms out on itself. I can’t weigh in on that since I never tried that style though. I don’t see how it could be worse than mine. I’ll try to check out some fittings at work tomorrow and see what style/size the fittings were. Pretty sure the ID of the lines were just 1/4”, but the ends were flared.

      @@wadeforster878 I believe the fittings on the bag are a 1/4” or 1/8” pipe thread going into the bag with a 1/8” MPT style on the other end of the fitting where the lines connect. Can’t remember 100 % though.

      @@linobrajuha1743 You mean replacing the rear coils with something stiffer? Then I would have to worry about how my rode height would be affected in relation to the front (I hate when the back site 3” higher than the front), and stiffer springs = a harsher ride all the time. Stock springs with air bags is best if both worlds.

    My top bracket broke that connects to the frame. The part with two bolts top to bottom. How hard would that be to change out? Airlift sent me the part, but I don’t have tools to do this. What would a mechanic generally charge? Do the bags have to be brought down to zero to give room to work on the bag brackets?

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy

      I’m sure an hour or 2 worth of labor whatever the shop labor rate is. That should be plenty of time to replace the upper bracket even if the back and lower mount meet to come back off.

      @@johnathandaniel89 I assume that's 6 in the front and 4 in the back? Or is it 6 all the way around? I think the bags would work with a 2"-4" rear lift, but 6" in the rear would be pushing it. Why would you go through the hassle of this installation, when the Firestone kit is bolt on, easy peasey, no cutting, and is the industry standard.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  4 місяці тому

      The only Firestone kit i was aware of at the time of making this was the kit that replaced the coil spring with an air bag. I'm not a fan of that, being a heavy truck tech and seeing air bags constantly blow out, I felt that keeping the springs was a better choice.

    Sadly, the Air Lift 5000s without the internal bumpstop won't help the ride quality. I've swapped mine and while the ride quality improved marginally it still doesn't ride NEARLY as nice as it did before the Air Lift stuff went in. I've documented the whole debacle on the 5thgenrams forum. For anyone interested, look for the thread titled "Air Lift 5000 Airbags on a Rebel". I'm planning on removing the entire system because I'm tired of Air Lift's lack of interest in addressing this issue. I even have a friend who works there and they know of the problem, but aren't doing anything about it. Do NOT buy this kit. At least that's my advice.
