This has to be the best PWM video out there. Not only was it informative and detailed but it also was very entertaining. You mentioned to make sure the polarity matches on the sidewall ports and the quick connect ends which hopefully saves me some time. I have noticed that a lot of the SAE cables don't match the sidewall ports as far as polarity goes. I plan to make use of adapters and also resplicing the ends as needed.
I went a step further and drilled holes along the length of the upper portion of the side of the box, fabricated a deflector from Lexan, siliconed&screwed deflector over holes.installed cooling fan with zip ties over the Pwm with a weather resistant switch.splash proof not water proof but aids in cooling unit which gets hot.duel purpose box used with trolling motor & converted Manuel to electric downrigger.

Kelly the pwm should work on any DC motor. Your bypassing the control in the head and using the pwm to supply input power to the trolling motor good luck with your project

hello, I wanted to ask a question, the battery connections are identified, but the motor connections are not, and curiously the symbols that are above in Chinese are confusing me because the character next to power + is equal to the negative of power input, and you turned it on bat - black, bat - red, black motor, red motor, how did you turn it on is the correct one, alternating, from left to right is red, black, red, black? thanks
This video is amazing! I feel confident that I can do this myself. Thank you! One question...I’ve heard that the circuit board can generate heat...should there be some venting in the box?
hi great setup. but I have question: how do you control or change the direction? you have to use one hand control handle, and another hand to control the speed? thanks
@@TheRustyRooster thanks for your reply. so you have to use 2 hands, right hand control the speed and left hand control the stear to control the direction. if they design the PWM can put inside the head-with-handle box. (same as before switch inside the box), just one hand to control the speed and direction using handle, that's would be perfect. do you have any idea or suggestion? thanks again
@@TheRustyRooster thanks. I am thinking: if we could make another wood or plastic (hard and strong) box with long bar or stick as handle, put PWM inside box to replace the existing head. And make that box with 2 holes. One hole for turn-on-off switch. And one hole for adjusting for speed button. (Btw. I have exactly same as your setup. But is not convenient because have to use 2 hands to control). Thanks again.
I've always wonder if you could explain what percentage of battery you save if you running the trolling motor at 50% power, what are the amps drawn with and without a pwm Both running at 50%? i know at 100% power they both draw the same amount of power but the pwm its supposed to save battery so at 50% power how much power or amps are you saving, hopefully you understand what im trying to say .
All good questions in short, I don't know but surely we could setup a test and find out. I'll see what we can come up with. Thanks Rodrigo I'll l study on it
My trolling motor switch sends 100% power at every selected position. 1-5. In position 1, 100%power goes to the motor but approximately 80% is diverted to coils and wasted as heated energy. Position 2 would be a 60%waste and so on. With a pwm, there is no wasted energy. Set your original switch on position 5 and control the speed with the pwm. Your battery life should increase, especially if you troll around in lower speed settings! Hope this helped.
Quick question, how did you get the nob off the speed control? I have the same one and I’ve been trying too figure out how too take the nob off, is it something too do with the nut that’s on the barrel of it?
On mine the nob was on a notched shaft and I got a screw driver behind it and pryed it off gently. The nut you see should mount the switch to the case. Hope this helps.
I keep a magnet on my work table, so when , I drop a screw, since I can't see well, I can sweep the area with the magnet and find the screw. it even works in the grass. a not came off of my riding mower. I put the magnet on a string and drug it around, where I had cut, and in about 5 minutes, I found it.
I'm wonderin where he is going to set that box in his kayak, between his legs i guess to operate the switch. I'm doin the same except i want smaller switch mount somehow. I like that box though, you made me feel better about taking on this project. I'm up here in Fairbanks Alaska so i have all winter to think about it.

What size fuse or breaker do you use on your trolling motor😊
