Jinjer has just release “JINJER - Judgement & Punishment - Tatiana Shmayluk - One Take Vocal Performance”. It is like this song has been made for vocal coach to react. It is only her, zero distraction, one take, no post production; just her and a microphone. For a vocal coach who knows about this type of signing, it should be like reading a guide about Tatiana’s vocals technics.
She uses a lot of vocal correction live. I'm not hating on the band, she's an amazing singer and you can only get that effect with a good base to work with. She's incredibly talented. This is a style which really complements an auto correction. But yeah the growls are all her. She's not deepening her voice with computers.
@@tehking111 I know she uses a little reverb which the band also told in an interview (more reverb and correction in this video). So don't know about how much editing goes into it but it might be a lot of vocal correction. But amazing singer, band and so happy to see them grow
@@tehking111 yeah there is 100% an affect being used for her voice and it's very apparent even in her live performances. Still amazing but that's not 100% natural
There's no octaver or special voice FX in use here. This was a single live play through in the studio with their new drummer, then they went back and added a few layers on top. If you listen to the album version vs this one, it might sound like they pieced together parts from the album and added recordings of the new drummer, but that's not the case, they're just that good. Check out the live versions of Captain Clock, Who's Gonna Be The One, or Words of Wisdom and you'll see how she can switch between her singing styles without any effort or added effects.
If you have really good ear you can hear very small differences between the album version and this version all the way through but you really have to listen to pick them up though.
@@andrewfurey2999 this is also the most true to the album they’ve ever played it. Normally she improvises quite a bit especially in her growls, which I find really interesting. It’s cool that they can play it just like the record, but I prefer when you get something a little different live.
I love your reaction/review videos, but like some have already said here, you really gotta stop quitting before the song ends! The best parts of the vocals are often left for the grande finale at the end (like here, like in Ghost Love Score by Nightwish, like many other songs) and leaving them completely out just leaves me feeling like there's a big part missing from the reaction.
Hi Ken! Thanks for doing this one. I'm one of the many who suggested this. Your explanation IMO was spot on. You answered alot of questions I had about the "growling." Not my kind of music, but to each his/her own. I'd really love to hear another Dio reaction when you get the time. Thanks again!! :-)
I am now able to do these growls / fry's / glottal / hyper glottal compression techniques all thanks to your course, Ken.. and I love being able to hit much higher notes with a bit of distortion that I was never able to do before, but that's as far as I want to go I just have no desire to get to this level of growl, it's too intense for me ... I've said it before 'NOT MY cup of Tea', but to each his own.. and I FULLY recognize the level of talent here ..very strong performance.
The whole reason for the huge numbers of reaction videos to this song is the surprise element of the first time viewer. There's an interview somewhere of them saying there were a few vocal overdubs, which would make the term "live session" not accurate. Until seeing that, I thought they were just splitting the signal, and processing the parts differently, like Zappa frequently used to do with his guitar signal. They could put a short delay on one part, use a low pass filter, or even an aural exciter on the low part, and still call it live. There is a compilation video of people actually reacting to this song for the first time which is very entertaining, and I'm probably not the only one who has a bookmark set up so I can see new people reacting to it all the time (the same as I do with Dimash).
Dude one of my favorite youtube channels, and I dont even sing and Damn dude, your open mind for music I'm at a lost for words. Your a true one my man, i love this channel, thanks.
Ken, I waited for your “react” video on clean, growl, then back to clean ever since you started these. Once I start your course and get far enough, I want to learn how to do exactly this.
With practice it's easy switching between clean and growl/shout. For a female she really has a very deep growl. I get goosebump and I am hyped every time I hear her voice. It's all about practice, practice, practice. Been doing this since about 13 years but had a break for 3 1/2 years due to depression. I practice often but not too often to let my voice having get used to it again. I am at F#1 (chest voice) - C6 (head voice, no falsetto) at the moment. Used to reach E6 (also no falsetto). Friends say I have a very deep growl (when I growl) for someone who has a natural tenor voice. I want to say that you have a great range.
In the description for this video from Jinjer they say they actually dubbed additional tracks over it. So its more than just her voice in this video. That being said, watch some live videos. She can really sing like this its not just studio magic.
Enjoying your videos, techniques, and advice. Would appreciate knowing what your analysis might be considering the vocals of Donna Missal's live VEVO performance of Lying To Me.
I was waiting for this for so long! Awesome! Why did you not react to the last part of the song where she goes high with a raspy mix voice, without growl? That was the part I was waiting for and the one I found most impressive in this performance. :( Also, Tatiana is not using an octaver, I listened to a lot her live videos. Now I'm waiting for Kingdom live EMG TV from Devin Townsend.

Yes!! Finally!! I saw this band in my hometown last year and they sound better live. Tatiana is mesmerazing in every way. By the way, your example of extreme vocal was insane!
What a beautiful creature. On a side note, Phil Anselmo is a pretty interesting character in that I'm amazed he's still at it at 50. He shouldn't be able to talk anymore. ;)
Love your stuff Ken your vocal fry is very Ronnie James dio which I love! But I also love how diverse your vocals are. Anthony from ten seconds songs is what referred me to your channel months ago. Keep on rocking 🤘

You don't make it boring and make it fun to learn new technic all while taking your teaching and making it your own. Ken I didn't know you already reacted to this.Bro that girl is for real man. one of the most talented female singers in my opinion ever. She can do it all and do it better than most Guys. Lol. great review bro. Love Jinjer def going to see them in the Fall.
Her name is Tatiana yes that her real voice and very talented and gifted singer and the guys Rock hard Core in the band JINJER there from the Ukraine. Ken listen to Who Gone be the one live from them .

I loveee her...........but jinjer is on a different level bro❤..when she uses her fry voice she does not sound like a woman at alllllll!!!!!!......unlike my love Lauren who still sounds a bit feminine...
Honestly, I agree with you. I usually just go away instead of making negative comments, but it is a turn off... There are so many talented female screamers that I really enjoy and Tati is one of them. The females lecture just reinforces the old attitudes that I heard so much in the eighties...there were females that could have done this then but the industry and negative stuff like this killed it, and made the industry a male dominated world. REALLY BIG TURN OFF.
I just discovered this band a couple weeks ago, and I've been hooked! Was hoping you had a reaction video to something of theirs. Overall, she's still no match for someone like Gabriela (can Gabriela growl? Haha!), but I do think Tatiana is doing something quite extraordinary. I've also been watching interviews with the band, and I was very shocked to hear Tatiana say that she doesn't work with a coach OR warm up. What??? She's been on a heavy touring schedule with this band for the last decade, and at 32, she still doesn't seem to be having any issues with her voice, though one wonders how much longer that will be the case. But awhile back, you may remember a comment I left on one of your reactions to a Heart song. I wrote about my theory that some vocalists like Ann and Freddie are able to figure out their instrument on their own, and it seems that Tatiana is another example of that. But again, for us mere mortals, we need some Ken Tamplin guidance! It would be great to see Tatiana work with you... she'd be even scarier than she already is, I'm sure!
On your reference to her using an octaver, the band has said that she was using an octaver in that session, but honestly it doesn't sound that much different to listening to her live.
Tatiana is pretty awesome, one of my new favourite singers! This song is not even her best song off the same album. Prologue and the remix beggar's dance are really good, to me. Judgement and Punishment live vocal video is one of the best ones she had done.
Ken, in the mid 90's as a teenager, I got heavily into bands like Cannibal Corpse and developed a very deep, guttural growl that people couldn't figure out how was possible. However, since I've spent quite a bit of time and developed a powerful 4 octave range (thanks to your videos), I noticed that my growl is nothing compared to what it was. Not that I need that sound much anymore, but does toning vocal chords up affect that area? Or, could it be that I'm getting older? I'll be hitting 40 in September.

Ken on your last reaction you were talking about Floor Jansen's belting ability, if you want a couple songs to react to where she really belts, and in one growls, check out Romanticide and Yours Is An Empty Hope for the growling.
I dont know if you know tallah but he is a monster taking in and out diferet grits and distrortions to his clean vocals. Also, he has a million diferent metal techniques. Music is a mix of korn, slipknot and Linkin park. As a vocal coach you may find it interesting. You can try "overconfidence" or "LED". This last song is nuts vocally speaking Just discovered your channel, love at first sigh. Greeting from the Spanish underworld
Lauren is awesome. Once Human is awesome and wish they'd get more love. Basically a super heavy ass Machinehead(considering their guitarist is a former guitarist for them) with a female growler who is one of the tops. Awesome to hear she's touring with Kamelot.
Love the reaction... Hi Ken! It’s JB. I’ve been following your youtube channel for years. Excited to learn more from your videos. Question please... Is it accurate to say that mixed voice uses compression? Also Is it possible to practice mixed voice without being too loud? (Want resonance not volume)

He might have a point with the octave effect in terms of female folds vs male folds. All other female growlers I've heard have "skinny" growls that lack depth compared to Jinjer's vocalist. Or perhaps she's just an anomaly...
Hey Ken ! When you say "the overuse of growl could destroy the folds really quickly". Is it the overuse of air, and pushing too hard to get the sound, or just doing it too much over a long period of time ? Could we do this kind of things everyday for example ?
Your coment is over a year ago, may be a bit late. Not and expert. Your cleans are produced with your normal cords. Growls with false cords. (Or fry, but she is doing false cords). When she growls, you cant hear her normal voice due to the distortion is produced with the cords above the normal ones. So you cant damage your cords due to you are not using them. Biggest bigginer's mistake is take your normal voice and put distortion on it. Its an advanced step. You can put some harsh, grift or extra edge on it very gentely, but distortion using your normal cords need an excelent control. There is channel only for growls in extreme metal and it is very educational if you want to sing like a zombie. Tatiana is fantastic but there are tons of vocalist way better in my opinion although she is really good. Cleans and growls have been done for decades in metal, nothing new really. I still love her. Most famous trick in internet to get use to false cords is barking And yes, daily and very gentle. You need to ve get use to the distortion it will take some time. Also, best way to start is work first on your cleans, breath management, ressonances, diafragma suport...... Then, change into a basic normal growl. It will be easier., Let me know if you want the link.
Ayyy, ive more than one woman this ability, we too can love this genre, I think its quite remarkable when women can do this, ive tried & I cannot! Lol! Really appreciate this feedback! 😁 regardless, her performance epic. Any Flyleaf fans? Lol
@@kentamplin Oh, I though you'd already heard the song because you were talking about her growling before hearing the song, normally I saw some reactions people wasn't be expecting her to had that vocal hability
She does use an octaver in this vid but she doesn't live and it sounds the same. Mabey she just wanted to add some efx to the vid. But she is just as if not more incredible live.
Would love to hear a reaction on the creep cover by either homeless mustard or the the 2 little girls on the voice kids. I believe you would really enjoy both.
Hi ken, just wanna ask, i notice that smetimes when i strain my voice my range gets a little higher after im healed.. So what i do i strain it everytime i got a chance i do karaoke.. Im i doing it right? I really love music and it is my passion. Would love to get some tips...
I have a hard time enjoying much modern music but there is something to the verses of this song. Good stuff. While her roar is impressive, it’s just not my thing. Eh, different strokes for different folks.
Not a huge fan of growling, because sometimes when I try to listen bands that use it, they overuse it, or add it in moments that make the song annoying(for me), but Tatiana is awesome. Also the melody of the song is really interesting and really made the growling part, something important, instead of something that "is there just because it's growling and they like growling". I think when there's emotional connection to the song, the band knows how, where and when to use it.
I've never heard them before. They are really good. I'm going to check out some of their other songs. Will. You ask Gabby to please do something by Pantera? Thank you Ken.
I'm sure you've already seen these artists requested, but Bruce Dickinson and Michael Kiske are nothing short of incredible. Would love to see reactions to Iron Maiden (Bruce Dickinson) and Helloween (Michael Kiske). And seeing how much you knew and were loving Dio in your Last in Line reaction, I'm sure these guys would be perfect for reactions.
One point I would make is people trying to do this on a normal mic without some post production, kinda ain't gonna happen, not sounding like what she sounds like, anyway. Without a mic it will sound basically NOTHING like this. Listen to someone who is very good at growling, say Avi Kaplan or Tim Foust or Geoff Castelluci, who have literally wiped out the bass drivers in concert sound systems do it live and in person, standing in front of you, and it is barely audible. Obviously this gal is massively good at this kind of singing, but if you heard her do this through a mic straight up, it is not going to sound like this, it will not have that humongous impact. Nothing wrong with that, it is absolutely STANDARD in the music industry now to modify the output of a band or voice, and quite heavily in some instances, just sayin'. I suspect many people wouldn't even know what a real professional unmodified voice sounds like singing any more, and I'm talking here about no sound equipment either, un miced unmodified. It is very different. Many years back it was add a bit of (horrific) reverb, mess with the equalization, and a few other things. Now, with digital filtering, you can do just about anything, like add pretty realistic sounding acoustics from a specific cathedral, or hall, a canyon or cave if someone went and sampled them. And sampling it now is fairly easy. Far as I know you walk in, set up, and use something to create a very sharp, loud, and short sound impulse, like two small flat boards hinged at one end, then the mics sample the resulting reflections, etc. and whala, you have an acoustic venue to put anyone in, anywhere. It's kind of like with beat boxing snares where they put big percussion impact on the front end which is something there is no way to do with the voice, unmodified. If you don't believe it, stand next to a snare with someone who knows what they are doing and tell them to just hit it once real hard. Then try to emulate that with your voice (or even a killer stereo, for that matter). Good luck. About as much luck as what you are going to have trying to produce the sound she does on that recording.
You skipped the best part! She's switches between growl and clean in an iinstant a bit later on.
Female growlers are no big surprise, especially in metal, but, Tatiana has a MUCH deeper growl than any other female in metal currently.
Plus most don't tend to switch back and forth in a song the way she does.
You clearly should check out Cerebral Bore - The Bald Cadaver ;) in my opinion, Simone is much deeper with her growls
I also like the growls from Krysta Cameron former vocals for Iwrestledabearonce, just pure power imo.

Tatiana is pretty awesome, one of my new favourite singers! This song is not even her best song off the same album. Prologue and the remix beggar's dance are really good, to me. Judgement and Punishment live vocal video is one of the best ones she had done.
Cool Vid! 👍 Mr. Tamplin I have a question, Can you death metal scream?
Apparently there is some overdubbing on these screams. They are all her, just not all from this particular session. That may be what you are hearing.
That's what I have been hearing, acvarthered!
Pisces got magic especially last couple weeks.
Hadley Scott McIntyre 👍👍👍
Ken, in the mid 90's as a teenager, I got heavily into bands like Cannibal Corpse and developed a very deep, guttural growl that people couldn't figure out how was possible. However, since I've spent quite a bit of time and developed a powerful 4 octave range (thanks to your videos), I noticed that my growl is nothing compared to what it was. Not that I need that sound much anymore, but does toning vocal chords up affect that area? Or, could it be that I'm getting older? I'll be hitting 40 in September.

Ken Tamplin
Thank you so much
Her voice was awesome
If you want to remain on good terms with your neighbors you'll want to listen to this with headphones on.
Dennis Good idea.
Ken on your last reaction you were talking about Floor Jansen's belting ability, if you want a couple songs to react to where she really belts, and in one growls, check out Romanticide and Yours Is An Empty Hope for the growling.
Cheapskate Coins Thanks for the suggestion.
This last song is nuts vocally speaking
Just discovered your channel, love at first sigh.
Greeting from the Spanish underworld
Queensryche-Take hold of the Flame Live 1984, Geoff Tate is a monster and King Diamonds-Abigail to break down his falsetto.
K1NG D1AMOND Thanks for the suggestion.
As i heard they are tuned to drop-G or drop-A tuning
Drop A.
Lauren is awesome. Once Human is awesome and wish they'd get more love. Basically a super heavy ass Machinehead(considering their guitarist is a former guitarist for them) with a female growler who is one of the tops. Awesome to hear she's touring with Kamelot.
Finally!
Konstantin Kovachev I know!
Tatiana has a phenomenal style! I wanna be her!
She sure does, Sandra!
@Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy Please respond if you can above question I asked you on live stream about mixed voice and trying to clarify bc many different descriptions of mixed voice

MACHINE HEAD - DAVIDIAN !!!!!!!!!
👍👍!!
He might have a point with the octave effect in terms of female folds vs male folds. All other female growlers I've heard have "skinny" growls that lack depth compared to Jinjer's vocalist. Or perhaps she's just an anomaly...
impressive!
Thanks Winter is coming!
Vocal coach reacts to Steve Perry singing "Mother, Father" live in Houston 1981!!!
Thanks for the suggestion, Miquan Scaife!
It will be easier.,
Let me know if you want the link.
Ayyy, ive more than one woman this ability, we too can love this genre, I think its quite remarkable when women can do this, ive tried & I cannot! Lol! Really appreciate this feedback! 😁 regardless, her performance epic. Any Flyleaf fans? Lol
Thanks for the visit, Cayla!
That's more like a review/explanation of Tatiana's voice, not a reaction I think, since you already knew the song from what I saw.
Rafael Kr thanks for your feedback! That was actually the first time for me on the song.
@@kentamplin Oh, I though you'd already heard the song because you were talking about her growling before hearing the song, normally I saw some reactions people wasn't be expecting her to had that vocal hability
You know Tamplin is a vocal coach but Armstrong walked on the moon 50 years before Tamplin could sing a single note😝😝😝
🦗🦗🦗
She does use an octaver in this vid but she doesn't live and it sounds the same. Mabey she just wanted to add some efx to the vid. But she is just as if not more incredible live.
Enigma-G She is incredible!
About Courtney Hadwin... for you, she is good or just scream?
Would love to hear a reaction on the creep cover by either homeless mustard or the the 2 little girls on the voice kids. I believe you would really enjoy both.
likeaboss4077 Thanks for the suggestion.

Edda Ayuste You need to stop straining. ua-cam.com/video/VIWWOYyuj5I/v-deo.html
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy thanks for the adv ken. Im from the philippines, i want to enroll to your classes.. What are the ways to pay?
C'mon ken, it isn't a reaction if you've already seen the video. While your opinion is interesting. I would love to see a proper first reaction.
I have a hard time enjoying much modern music but there is something to the verses of this song. Good stuff.
While her roar is impressive, it’s just not my thing. Eh, different strokes for different folks.
Thank you!
Thiago Oliveira I think you are correct about that.
how can she growl so low like guys?? Effects?
One word "practice". No effects at all.
I love kick ass women like this Arch Enemy (Angela) and Otep were huge idols of mine for women in metal.
Cassie W 👍👍👍
To each his own. Not my kind of music. I'm reacting, not at all criticizing.
VIDEOHEREBOB, It isn't for everyone.
I've never heard them before. They are really good. I'm going to check out some of their other songs. Will. You ask Gabby to please do something by Pantera? Thank you Ken.
Metal Mack Thanks for the suggestion.
She sings like an angel😇screams like a demon😈.
Ranjita Potsangbam yes!!!
Hi ! Cool !
Fernando Moulin Hi. Thanks!
check out the band infected rain. songs mold, me against you, passerby
kacey- Thanks for the suggestion.
you are welcome. great videos
Thanks for all of the awesome suggestion, Alexander!
Rock on!
Dickie from infant annilator can do all his zombie growls with a normal mic. No production whatsoever
Check out arselein by corpo mente. Can you do a video on that?
Laura Gilbert Thanks for the suggestion!
This is more of a review than a reaction
Can you please make a video on How to sing without straining. 😊😊😊
Thanks for the suggestion, Billy!
