The older BMWs with six cylinder engines used to sound so much smoother and more velvety. I have a 2018 440i Coupe which sounds good but BMW has made the mistake of making current six cylinders sound more rorty with exhaust pops and crackles which seems to be what today’s buyers want. I prefer the creamy sound of the original chain driven SOHC “big” M30 and small belt-driven M20. Years ago I had a 1980 E12 528iA and, later, a 1998 E36 328iA Convertible both of which sounded so much better than current BMWs!

polakdawido Really ?! Can you post the part number of that cable ?! Because the car is 2.5, so it's have an "auto check" system ! Not even E28 have a speedo cable ! W124 is a faaaaaar away from electric system in this years ... They prefer the "old" fashion way :/
I've never owned an e34 or any old bimmer before so I'm only assuming its the cable because this is what happens in older cars and its often the fault of the cable. Could be the capacitors, I don't know I don't own that car so I can't be certain.
+Scott Burrows I have an E34 as well so I know what you said, just noticed that jumping indicator. And +Alexandru Klipii the gauges are electric, there are no cables connected on them, just four wired plugs.
***** Mine works, but seams like rev meter works in frames :D like 1 frame per second :D and lcds are kinda screwed up. I'm planing to get whole dash board, but I'm not sure is this dash universal for all E34 engines.
Xw0rkS It should be universal :) I just changed the whole dashboard (not the instrument) from a 88mod e34 into my 92mod E34. worked like a charm! :) good luck with the change

there is a dobble wire behind the differensial, that's reading the speed. had the same problem some day's ago. just needed to attach a new wire.

It's an M20, the same engine used in the E30 325i.
The M50 non vanos engine is probably the most reliable engine BMW have ever made.

The cable is most likely loose, its an old car so it doesn't have an electric speedometer.

Speedometer doesn't work !
This is normal for a 25-30 year old BMW even some Mercedeses w123/w124 does it too.
