@@ruralpestcontrol cool I have a question have you ever came across a doe hole.? I.e. a hole in the middle of a field with only babies and no adults.

@@pelletandferretpestcontrol7367 no usually if I've come across young they're in a nest with adults etc. That last warren we did with the two young un's in was only one hole and no adults. But all the holes had been filled in a month previous to us going.

@@pelletandferretpestcontrol7367 In the Spring and Summer months the doe rabbit will often leave a busy warren and dig a short nesting burrow out in the field. I found hundreds over the years. They are rarely much longer than an arm's length and the Doe will cover the entrance over with soil when she leaves the kits, to go foraging. If you disturb these nesting holes, the doe will sometimes leave her young, and not return. If you watch a field quietly you can sometimes see the old doe, dig herself in to feed the kits. I've captured several by rushing over and plunging my hand down the tunnel. These kits are frequently blind and helpless in their fur nests and are a completely different scenario to when you encounter wee runners, in a main warren. Obviously, some female rabbits elect to have their youngsters in a side tunnel of the main bury,.but it can be a dangerous exercise as old Bucks will sometimes kill the kits if they find them. Rabbits are funny old things ! Great to see ferreting clips on the screen,..Keep up the good work bonny lads.

Love see you using your long nets 👍🏽

I will be using them once I can find some better land to use them on. We used them in these two paddocks last year when there was a lot more holes to net but I found the rabbits just hole hopped. All the holes here had been filled in a month ago and the most nets we set on one warren was 5. Once I get bramble a bit more aware of what's going on then the long nets will be used 👍

Just curious... How does your dog tell the difference between the rabbit and whatever comes out if the hole? Has the pup ever not release the kill? I have 6 ferrets not hunters. This was ever so interesting

She has grown up around the ferrets so she knows what they are. She can be a bit awkward at releasing sometimes. I've not trained her in any way to do this it's more her own natural instinct.
