One of the things I truly love about You Tube is stumbling across someone now, and being able to look at them and listen to their art from eight years ago and follow them all the way up to today. And, of course, both these guys are radically wonderful. I have never and will never be able to play like them, but I can still play like me.
Here's the way it works...Most of us used to upload "live" versions of tunes until so many people complained that the tab they were using wasn't agreeing in every detail with the YT video. So we've taken to making real "promo" videos these days, where we play along with the finished mastered audio. Hell, we can certainly play the tunes...but people seem to get upset when we improvise even a little when trying to learn the tunes from the official tabs.
I appreciate where you all are coming from but I still gotta admit the live versions have always earned my complete respect and will be the main reason I keep coming back. It shows the human and, more often than not, super-human side of the candyrat artists.
When we filmed this vid, I was standing on the cameraman's left...but I had mixed the record with my guitar on the right. And yes! There's bass that comes in part way! Well heard, those of you not listening on laptop speakers! Well done! But, so what? It sounded awesome with bass, and we didn't feel compelled to "show" me playing the fretless bass part that I played. Again, like the tune or don't. We're happy to provide a proper L-R mix for those of you with audio-vertigo! :-) LOVE YA!
What a great duo these guys make. Older and newer generation, pure synergy. I would pay big bucks to see they so a whole set in a small nightclub settings, with a front row seat and large bottle of Moscato Red. Divine stuff!
Absolutely ACE! Nothing better than two guitarists in tune with each other! Brill! They do seem to be playing all the notes I'm sure...contrary to what some peeps think... ^..^
I played an McConnell fan fret once. I got used to the fan frets right away. It had nice tension in the low E-string even at lowered tunings. It was the best fingerstyle guitar I had ever played. I 'm not sure but I think that Calum is playing a Marc Beneteau fan fret here; I've never had the chance to play one of those but I've heard great things. Sure sounds monster here.
One of the things I love about reading YT comments on the Candyrat vids is how some people get all "look how clever and observant I am noticing tiny details" and then try to out-detail each other and then tell each other to do obscene things to each other because they've been so fearcely trying to out-detail each other. LOL.
hey man i totally feel you, pretty ridiculous that people get upset over tiny details in tabs when if they're good enough to play the song they shouldn't have a problem following along. wheres the creativity in straight up copying a candyrat song lol
Thanks for the explanation. I've been experimenting with mic placement recently and couldn't figure out how Rob was doing it. It sounded really close-miked, but there are no mics (or cables) visible. It didn't occur to me that you were, umm... finger-synching? Great tune, anyway!

The synchronicity that this type of music requires for 2 people to play at the same time is something that should never be unappreciated

Very well done, with the right vocals and mixing, I hear possibly a radio quality hit song.
Yep, it's on the record. No video yet, though.

Hey. Great tune. Where is the invisible bass player?
Beast.
Sweet guys
And this one gets my "like" too. :)
As an Australian, I'm really glad it's not called Moving Forward.
I would have Julia Gillards' nasally voice in my head the whole time.
this is a cool one!
Back on you meds! :-) Don't worry, we know how to play the tune. I explained our decision to play to track much earlier. Cheers.
