Etosha National Park on the Edged of Perception
At its heart lies the strikingly white Etosha Pan, an immense expanse stretching about 120 kilometers in length. After the rainy season, this pan is left parched under the relentless sun, leaving behind only salted minerals. Gazing out toward the horizon, one can understand the cruel mirages that have led many animals to their untimely demise, as they desperately chase illusions of quenched thirst. These mirages blur the line between reality and imagination, a realm where both have their sway.
Etosha is a vast and expansive region, covering a staggering 22 square kilometers, equivalent to the size of Israel. The pan alone stretches 120 kilometers long. Along its edges, a series of watering holes are strategically placed to sustain wildlife during the dry months. It’s at these very water holes that the 24/7 drama of predator and prey unfolds. Predators are well-versed in this never-ending cycle, often lurking in wait for their next unsuspecting victim. Our return to this unique place allows us to witness nature’s raw beauty set against the stark backdrop of the Etosha Pan, a place that precariously sustains an abundance of life in one of the most surreal landscapes on Earth, right on the edge of oblivion.
At its heart, the ethereal, ivory canvas of the Etosha Pan stretches for about 120 kilometers, a hauntingly beautiful testament to nature’s extremes. Once drenched by the rains, the pan is left desiccated and glistening under the unrelenting sun, with only remnants of salted minerals as its legacy.
Gazing towards the distant horizon, one can’t help but marvel at the mirages that have lured countless creatures to their poignant fate, promising elusive sips of water. These mirages blur the boundaries between stark reality and the mirage of hope, where both illusion and existence dance on the edge of perception.
As we sit quietly overlooking The Halali Water hole we witness the constant ebb and flow of game that depend on this lifeline for survival. Many animals have to spend an entire night in wait to quench their thirst at first light.
It is here that predetors patiently lay in wait for their next unsuspecting victim. The waterholes become the stage for ambushes, where life and death dance in a precarious balance, each a heartbeat away from the other
Etosha’s vast expanse covers a staggering 22000 square kilometers, a sprawling territory that’s the size of an entire nation. Along its fringes, a sequence of water holes are thoughtfully placed, breathing life into the arid wilderness during the unforgiving dry seasons.
It is a magnificent sanctuary where an incredible variety of wildlife coexists in a delicate yet harmonious balance.
These diverse species come together to form a complex and interconnected web of life. Each one plays a unique role, contributing to the park's ecological tapestry. Their integration is a testament to the marvel of nature's intricate design, where every creature, no matter how large or small, has a place and purpose in this breathtaking wilderness.
Game watching in Etosha? Well, let me tell you, it's no walk in the park. As that blazing sun inches closer to horizon our mind starts to drift towards that ice-cold beer waiting for u back at camp.
But hold on, our weary eyes are on high alert, scanning the landscape for any sign of life.
…And just when we think our bladder is about to stage a protest, a miracle happens.
Out of the corner of our eye, we spot it - an inconspicuous ear flick in the bush beside the road.
    We’ve hit the jackpot!
A cheetah, of all things, is lounging in the shade under a tree.
For us it is a first-time sighting
Now, the big question on our mind: How long can our bladders hold out until this majestic beast decides to grace us with its presence? It's a race against time …and biology.
After An arduous hour of waiting, the bladder clock ticking away like there's no tomorrow.
But then, it happens - the moment of truth.
The cheetah rises, unfurls itself like a yoga master, and proceeds to mark its territory. One stretch, followed by another and to our big surprise second cheetah itself.
So, here's to cheetah sightings and strong bladders - the unsung heroes of safari adventures! Now it is beero clock.
    With deep appreciation,

Elephant sitings are always so rewarding, particularly if it is made up of old and young.
If you are patient and sit quietly, you are afforded moments of intimacy, an insight to the complexities of the herd and their fine tuned relationships.
Initially you are confronted by their enormous size and their larger than life presence and then things quieten down and you start noticing the textural qualities-of their skin,
the hair on the tail and the ever inquisitive trunk.
These are the most incredible moments, and we feel so privileged to be able to witness and record them.

You once again conveyed the experience one can make being out - from demanding corrugation in Etosha to a nice camp at Onguma. And the commenting poetry makes more than the ice on the cake! Thx!

Thank you Jacques for your lovely comment. Of course we would love to be in perpetual motion having amazing adventures to share with you guys. This is the dream we are working towards. The reality for us is that we also have regular lives like most people out there. We still need some sessions on the hamster wheel to finance these trips.
So until we have enough supporters to appease the algorithm gods our adventures will be interrupted. The good news is we have some more adventures in the pipeline for 2023 and 2024. See you on UA-cam in a while or out there in the wilderness.
