    My personal opinion is that the trees and landscape should be seen as one unit. Nature means trees, moss,stones ...

    I watched The Bonsai Bloke sit on one similar and spin his arse around on it. So I'm sure the larch is good and safe Nigel. Adrian makes them as strong as they are beautiful. Great video, can't wait to see the rest of the trees to come across the new toy.

    Great video! 3D printed pots, amazing turn table! Amazing forest! Great.... about the polemic discussion on plastic pots, I may say that I am very interesting on them because of the light weight, price and they work really fine... also, if one considers the impact of mass production ceramic pots plastic will sounds really ecofriendly.

    So when do those turntables go on sale, have you signed a product licensing deal yet? Anyway a quick larch question. We have had a warm winter down here and as a result most of my American larches started to open their buds. Then we had a return to colder weather so the bud popping stalled. So the question is have you run into this before with your larches and do you think this means I should not do any repotting and root work on them now? They have been in the current soil and pots for about a year and some really do need to be moved up to larger pots with more soil and root space. However I don’t want to kill them. Maybe for those in smaller pots I’ll just slip pot them into bigger pots and hope for a colder winter next year to keep them asleep longer. Thanks for the videos and great advice-Larry

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  4 роки тому

      The turntable is a one off gift from Adrian, but I believe he will make a custom one for everyone!
      The Larches might need some protection to save the needles that are already coming out. The new needles can survive some light frost, but need protection from cold drying winds. If they die off, the Larch will usually recover and more buds will emerge.
      It may be better to re pot them in a more normal spring (if there is such a thing!) I would rake out the roots and only do a light root pruning to help the tree retain enough energy to recover from this strange weather.

    The group looks great. The moss shaping was very interesting, too. I don't think I've seen such well rounded moss before. The turntable looked fantastic and very helpful, and the 3D printed pots looked very promising, too.
    The two seedlings were also very nice. I wish I would find such seedlings in the garden. But since I usually don't, so collected some seeds from my nearby park and I also got some online (I made a more detailled comment about that in Part 1). I'll sow those in March and I hope they'll do well.
    I wonder if you have any tips on successfully growing seeds and things like where to make the first cuts on the young trees. I think you got that "From Seeds to Bonsai" board in your plant room. I have to say, I'd love to learn more about that. The scissor sharpening lesson you mentioned sounded very interesting, too.
    Anyways, I'm looking forward to Part 4!

    you may look up some material guides. pla is known to break down in moisture and sunlight. paint very well may be a good solution to that. petg may be worth looking into. I do a lot of 3d printing, and have seen pla break down in these circumstances. You would likely get a year or 2 out of an untreated pla pot though.

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  4 роки тому

      Thanks Alec, yes the PLA tends to distort in the hot sun, I will be printing all my pots using nGen plastic from Colorfab hopefully in the future. I have several pots made from nGen and they have stood up to everything over the last three years!

      @@TheBonsaiZone That is great to know! I'll have to print some pots with that material now. Really hopping that 3d printing helps me keep down my pottery costs I the future.

    If the trees are native to your region, why do you have to keep them in the basement? don't they stand the winter outside?whn i was young i had an olive tree and was outside all year around, here in Spain they are used to be both in the cold and hot.

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  4 роки тому

      The trees are very hardy, but our winters can go down to -37 C, this is very cold for a plant in a pot. I have kept them outside for the winter in the past, but it is better to keep them around the freezing point in my unheated basement. If the trees were in the ground, keeping them outside would be no problem, but we get so many rabbits here, they would get chewed up.

    I love this forest! it looks very beautiful, natural, multivariate, mysterious... I also admire your attention to details and imagination: creating all paths, passages, hiding/secret places - superb! I can relate to it in 100%
    Just my thought: you may try to put some vertical stone (dark one) on the left side of the forest, where path is turning. Personally I would test vertical one - not very high though. It would give some more dramatic wall-like structure to hide turning path. Make it disappear more. Some vertical stone on top of that hill would be interesting as well. And, there are 3 stones on the front next to the lip of the pot - I would remove 2 of them. They look too much symmetrical positioned (one line). This is just my suggestions but since I can't test in in person I am not sure if it would works. Anyway, I love to collect stones since childhood and use them in bonsai landscapes. Keep us updates about this lovely forest! Cheers!

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  4 роки тому

      Some are printed with PLA. The PLA ones seem to last about 3 years of normal bonsai use. The better plastic to use is nGen from ColorFab. It is holding up really well and should last a lifetime.

      Nigel Saunders, The Bonsai Zone I have wondered of the outside longevity of pla, given its eventual biodegradable nature, I had thought of give8ng them a couple of coats of the smooth on resin that’s intended for smoothing to effectively seal the pla, then paint for uv protection. I’ve not tried the ngen stuff yet, I’ll have to get a reel and see how it goes :)

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  4 роки тому

      I try and re pot at least every 3 years if the tree is growing well. If you are refining a tree and not allowing it to grow wild, you can re pot less often. Generally the top growth mirrors the root growth, so if the top have grown a lot then so have the roots!

    The forest is looking great so far, that was a lot of moss to carve around ! Really nice to look at the branch structure before the new spring growth. The turn table looks sharp and appears to spin good, what a job ! The printed pots are coming along nicely, I might look at printing one sometime.
