Personally, I think 'Slime' is a stupid name for something like this, but it's not all in the name. In fact, it's if it can do everything it says it does that's important. In the case of the Slime inflator I thought it did just that. It was easy to hook up, quiet, and it didn't take that long at all to inflate the tire that I inflated in this video. So yes, I can say that the Slime inflator does what it says it does. I think this would be ideal to throw in the back of your vehicle 'just in case', but I also think it would be nice to have for camping or if you're on the hunt for a 'barn find' that's been sitting since 1982 with flat tires. Ever try to push a vehicle with flat tires? It sucks, trust me.
Here's some useful links for you.

*Great air pump **MyBest.Tools** Faster than my old plug in pump and twice as handy without having to drag the cord around. And it works with my existing Ryobi drills battery.*
I bought a Goodyear i7000 Heavy-Duty 12V tire inflator about 2 years ago for around $50, and I've been pretty happy with it. It plugs into the cigarette-lighter port on the vehicle, but I also bought an adapter that adapts the male cigarette-lighter plug to two large alligator clips so I could attach it directly to the battery if needed.
The Slime unit you reviewed is definitely a LOT faster and a bit quieter than my Goodyear unit. Mine takes a good 4 minutes to go from flat to 35psi, and is definitely not quiet enough to have a conversation while it's running. But I paid about $35 less for mine. So I guess you get what you pay for.
Really liking these tool-review vids, Eric. They're a great addition to the repair vids, IMHO. Keep up the good work.
These compressors actually last a long time. I've had mine since 2008 and probably used it at least 50 times. Still running strong. Couple this with a tire tackle kit (plugs, reamer and the plug insertion tool), and you're ready for 90% of most tire-related troubles.
I love mine. One of the best $45 I ever spent. My rim is slightly bent so about once a week I was having to either pay at a gas station or use one of the junky free pumps some of the gas stations have, then I was using a cheap $8 inflator that took a very long time to top off the tire. This nice one takes just seconds, and I bought the one that comes with the tire sealant if I ever need it.
The name actually makes a lot of sense considering their tire sealants are green slime...
Honestly, I didn't know that until after I did the review.
Personally, I prefer the Viair 70p. It's about $40 on Amazon and the metal construction is very good. The only plastic part is the tire pressure gauge which was built into the unit itself and not on the hose. The valve is also a screw on but a metal (seems like brass) construction. I inflated a school bus tire with it to test its functionality. Did the job in no time and it was very quiet. Personally, I think the Viair is better value than the Slime especially at half the price. It comes with a carry bag along with a few attachments. I'm very happy with it and I have helped many people with the Viair compressor.
Good technical review ,cons of the slime portable Air compressor .thanks for sharing such awesome review.
hay i have the same pump and it always reads a little low so im thinking that the presure on the guage is reading from the pipe and not the tyre but ahh well
Nice tool for sticking in the trunk.had a 96 bonneville ssei that had one factory in the trunk.it was great to have.
I would really like to see a tool review of the impact wrenches that hook up to the battery. They would be REALLY handy if they worked!
Buy a cordless, 24 volt minimum.
i bought one and am amazed. I've had smaller models that make a lot of noise and don't do anything or should I say very little in comparison to this product. It's a keeper! Recommended. i also don't care for the name but it's a good product.
i picked up a black and decker version of this, it has cigarette and AC plugs and auto shutoff for around $50, used a few times already. Loud as hell but much easier than having to drive to a gas station for air.
I used to have one of those pumps not that particular one but after a while with aluminum rims losing air pressure more in the fall and winter , the air pressure sensor coming on in the dash I just opted to get one that was battery operated, self contained battery-operated pump .. finding myself just throwing the whole pump in the trunk without rolling up the cord
I got a dodge dually with 6 - 17" tires and need to have a good small 12v compressor. Would this burn up or do you think it would work or let me know what one would work since you got more experience on this matter thanks.
I have the slime elite hd 40046 air pump. It's pretty nice to have a 2300 cubic inch per minute air compressor that will last you a long time even if you only have a small car. Since I have a good air compressor, I no longer need to change a flat tire unless there is a blowout or sidewall puncture.
i like the tool reviews keep it up
there is a similar type inflator but connects through the 12 v socket beside the cigarette lighter is it safe to be used in modern cars with all these electronics ?? i mean what if it just jammed or got a short circuit or something ? really need to know , thanks
Have you used their slime product that puts the gooey stuff into the tire? I've always been told putting stuff into the tire to patch it ruins the tire long term.
Thanks. I considered this today, but I don't like the gauge location. I watched your vid to see where the gauge connects to. Nope, I want my gauge on the inflator. I will keep looking. My old BonAire that I love gave up the ghost. Plus I need a regular 12 volt plug, not clamps. I have to fill tires on a motorhome, so need the length to go from my cab rather than under the hood. Thanks again, you just saved me around $75.00!
Do those dual cylinders actually make a difference in inflating the tire faster? Also if you jack up the car and get the weight off the tire, it will inflate the tire faster and put less strain on the compressor.
I had one of these in my car before the car got stolen. I did retrieve the car but no compressor. I saw one at the store for $10 the other day and I think I am going to go back and get it. They are VERY handy.
Thanks for letting us know what CFM is "cubit feet per minute"
I got the smaller Safety seal compressor tonight and I was very surprised, the little compressor runs off the 12v plug in the cab and it only took about 15 min to take a 31x10.50r15 tire from 6 psi to 25 psi couldn't beat it for $40
With camera from a high angle, You look like George Clooney at the end of this video.
Hey Eric, they make a smaller version for motorcycles that works great also. It weighs like nothing and fits right in your gear bag. Saved my ass once in the mountains. Worth every penny.
Slime is the name for a company that also makes a canned tire inflation that has a slime sealer in it. Slime ruins TPMS sensors and it can freeze in the winter causing tire imbalance, thus further damaging the tires.
Thanks for the video was looking for mini compressor for ADV bike couldn't tell the size from website pics a bit to big to carry on motorcycle but looks great for car 👍
Eric, I own one of these, well: three of em. They break, EASILY.
I have one thats 2 years old but I only used it 4 times and the motor is burned out I say their JUNK
Eric I hope your compressor last longer than the ones I bought. They seemed good and delivered lots of air fast ,at first but did not last as long as some cheaper ones.
*"Whisper quiet"* (unless you're in a *_cavernous garage_* LOL) I personally like the *"clip-on"* type of tire valve connector; they don't release as much air when removing, but sometimes do snap off with age if not lubed periodically. The dual cylinder aspect is a nice feature. A simple 12VDC Plug option (with female end and battery clips optional) might be safer and more practical for certain instances. Thanks for the review, Eric!
I see that you also have a precise and accurate stick tire pressure tool.
Hey Eric, have you ever thought about doing a video on how to drive a stick shift?
Eric !!!! Reading the instructions ! REALLY !!!! Hahaha
I have a small Campbell & Hausfeld that plugs into a cigarette lighter. I've had it over 25 years, used it hundreds of times and it still works the same as the day I bought it for $25.
whats the point your tire gets flat when it has a hole can it fix that lol ?
Yea slime has been around for a while 1998 is when i first used it and is lnown for their green goey tire sealants stupid name or not like eric said as long as it does whats it says it does its all good
great review Eric. I need a new Tire (USA) Tyre (UK) inflator.
hey Eric, i bought an automotive tire pump. its basically like a bike tire pump. or it my be a bike tire pump and just slapped an automotive sticker on it. either way its worked wonders. easy to transport. ive filled tires from my grandmas honda civic to my f150.
Nice review, reasonably good unit. I agree with Sean Tobin, though, equally good units can be had in the $35-40 range.
That' seems much more reasonable.
I'll guess that the very cheap ones (one of which I got for about $20) are not as durable or fast. I do carry some gear for roadside emergencies, but there is a cost to doing that if the gear is heavy and rarely used. Tire problems, and roadside emergencies for that matter, are not as common as they used to be.
What if you have one of those new cars who don't give you a spare tire and you have a slash on the side of the tire?
my local auto store has cans of compressed air with the green gunk sealant.
I want to see if it can inflate a truck tire to 80psi most of the small compressors will not do it thanks Eric awesome video as usual
Mine has worked great for 3+ years... just got an extension hose... very nice accessorie...off by a few lbs... just get a separate guage.....235/75/R15 35psi...inflates all 4 tires in a short amount of time with the engine running...
It's pretty awesome!
I thought it came with some sealant. Anyway, is it recommended to use sealant for a flat or no?
I don't recommend it, no. But if you're stuck, you're stuck.
I have one of thoughs just like that one butt it came with one extra item slime and was only 30.00
Thanks foe for showing the specs.
I pump up my car tire with a ten dollar bicycle pump! It's a good work out at the same time.
That works too!
I did that as young man about 18yrs old and my Tire was bottom out...but I used a bike pump and I filled on probable now that's when was 18 now 55 and I couldn't do that at all I might have a hart attack
Works quick from what I see, but 83 bucks is expensive. I would rather have a battery booster pack with compressor ,battery booster ,inverter, light for a couple of hundred. Thanks for the review and great videos.
That's a good idea actually. Thanks for the input.
+EricTheCarGuy Yeah I got a 1000 cranking amp with two 12v USB and 120v plugs work light and inflator with free roadside assistance about 99 bucks
+David Topchiev It says don't turn the vehicle on while inflating. Therefore you're supposed to start the vehicle before you turn the pump on, not during the process.
Contacts in the cigarette lighter connector are not as heavy duty as the direct connection to battery.
For $109 & free shipping I bought a Mountain jumper pack that has a compressor, light, and will start your dead car. Its about the same size as the Slime box and much more useful.
5 years later, still a good jumper pack?
don't ever get shit that's 3 things in one this video yeah that's fine not a jumper with three other things
Saw this 2 latelollll
What if the tire was punctured? Would you think you had a shitty compressor?
very nice and handy tool
$80 seems a little crazy for a just in case item, picked up a decent one for $30 works just fine and it uses the cig lighter instead of battery cables, also its alot smaller and fits with my spare tire in the trunk.
I take it that you and J&B have some partnership going on, eh, Eric? Is there any other place I can get this pump from?
Yes we do, they supply the tools for the reviews. I'm sure you can find other sources with a quick Google search.
Slime is the brand name of that green slimy stuff that you can put inside your tires so that if you run over a nail the resulting leaking air will force the green slime into the hole and seal it (How Slime Tire Sealant Works). Slime decided to make an air compressor too since they are in the tire care business, hence the reason "Slime" is on this totally un-slimy product. Looks like a nice little compressor! Thanks for the video Eric!
seemed happy in this one :)
Having a quick look around, found heavy duty 4x4 air compressors cheaper.
Its a good bit of kit to have in your car, and everyone should have one.
I use a cheapo $10 air compressor that plugs into the cigarette lighter. Worked fine for years to keep tire pressure up.
how long does it take it through the process of inflating a tire with one of the non expensive air inflate product???
how long for it to take on filling a tire with a lesser expensive product like these? @ FyberOptic
@@zapcodeknock4503
He is embarrassed to tell the truth
Moreeee tool reviewssss!!!!!!
Expensive for what it is. I recently bought a tyre compressor for around $25 (£17) with a fairly accurate digital readout and LED lights (white or flashing red), but no hose coil.
Slime Elite single cylinder model... The exhaust hose gets really hot within a few minutes, smelly. May end up melting we will see. I just use it for pumping up a passenger car tire to about 55PSI that is leaking, gives me a few hours then i pump it up again.
And their cheapest model, the exhaust hose melts a hole withing a handful of uses! I burned through about 6 of them until I collected enough to send them in to a head of department of Slime and i got a free Elite unit. Hope it lasts! The Viair units just work, so do the Tack life2 inflator with the 12V fan embedded in the compressor head.
That would be a good gift to get my Dad.
I have one of these. Compressor works good. The little parts in case get lost easily and there is never the requisite green goo handy when you need it. Its called "slime" after the green goo they sell with it. The green goo is the companies main product. They just sell compressor kit as a way to sell more green goo (aka slime). Also note the green goo is highly corrosive to rubber and human skin. The corrosiveness helps seal the tire if punctured. If you take tire to tire mechanic you need to tell them so the green goo doesnt explode all over them as they replace bad tire. Just FYI.
Use one of their battery powered units. Set the pressure I want on the display and get the next tire ready for it. When I got my Jeep Liberkee it has tpms and decided that using slime in it might be a bad idea.
That should of been used, not use. Sorry about that. Nonetheless, I do like my battery powered one. Especially when inflating something far away from any power source.
presonally, i own a cheap walmart tire inflator, $20ish if i remeber correct, have had it for several years use it a couple times per year, i keep it next to my spare in the trunk, runs off the ciggarette lighter, pros-cheap, small, light, reliable, gets the job done, cons-loud, guage is inaccurate have to check the preasure while inflating, and takes a little while like 2-5 minutes per tire
thanks for sharing the video
It's a good tool for your sealf and help somebody !!
can you use air tools with this compressor?
+Joe Ffrad No, it may be too powerful for air tools.
I have a 5-gallon aluminum air tank, a VIAIR air compressor, and a compressor in my garage to deal with low or flat tires.
Hey EricTheCarGuy will you buy a PS4 ? and unbox it ?
So I got this Tire Inflator because I had a flat and I drove it with the flat for 2 blocks I had too.. it was all the way to the rim dead Flat I tried 2 a fix a flat no help 25$ then I couldn't take the tire off it snowing and Freezing cold so I paid 109$ for this and Crossed my Fingers and started it I heard a pop and it worked better then I thought it was going to do...this was and is a Great Buy it works Great..very Happy...
walmart has a smaller version of this for a lot cheaper and it comes with their tire sealant
Another option would be to spend and extra $50 (sometimes less if you wait for deals) and get a Battery booster, 12V power, usb charger, light, and air compressor all in one. What a good tool to have in your trunk if something goes wrong.
great vid
everyone should have one of these in their car, if not the exact model, even a cheap piece of crap is better then nothing. i have one that i got for like 5 bucks, slow as hell but sure beats walking for hours. or better yet people check the air in your spare. ive been a mechanic for a while and i have OCD when it comes to checking peoples spares and like 85% of them are flat
My Kia came with something similar in lieu of a spare tire and also came with a canister of some sort of sealant, although that doesn't give me a lot of confidence if I have a flat.
An Acura NSX has a similar set up but they give you a flat spare to fill up.
Them are good little air compressors I've had one for 2 years and it's still good I've pumped up big tractor tires truck, tires car, tires quad tires, you name it but they should have called it a Timex takes a licking and keeps on ticking
every time i buy an electric tire pump it's crap even from slime i use a manual one from them.
Slime was a product that you put in to seal the tire so thus the name!!
It's a good tool....Did you get in autozone?, What is the cost?
See the description.
Spend $25 on a calibrated gauge with bleeding valve, and $4 on a manual pump (having it's own gauge as well).
Over inflate a bit using the pump, and then bleed down to the required pressure using the calibrated gauge. Less than half the money & better results.
The gauge lasts forever; the pump won't break the bank when up for replacement.
Dear Erik & Viewers. The most important place to keep this compressor are in the trunk of your car as you may get stranded not only in the morning , but when you need to get back to home. Also, make sure that you visit a tire shop to have him check on puncture or other leak, like from the valve stem for example.
I bought one of those back in the late 70s, used it one time, BOOM, it through a rod, I took it back to the auto parts store, and got another one, pumped up another tire, and Bang, that one did the same thing, I got my money back.
what happen to your ponytail
I have 2 Slime air compressors and both broke after a short period of time.
Says don’t run engine??
I've had mine for 3 years and it has saved my butt many times and let's face it your spare will probably be flat when you need it
I have a cheap no name brand inflater from target and it works well. I paid 5-10 dollars for it. It has saved me once.
Dang, Eric, did you get a hair cut and give up Micky D's? Lookin' good, bro.
Cool video
during the winter i saw about three cars with slime in the tires destroy tpms sensors
I think that would be really handy for a flat tire in bad weather. The "Slime" name is because the company also makes "Green Slime" tire stop leak. It certainly would allow you to be able to drive to a service place to get the tire repaired. Oh, and it is far superior to driving on a doughnut spare!
Did I miss the classic unboxing part again??
No I didn't. Cool!
Why do directions say don’t run compressor while car is running?
Hi Eric I have just purchased a unit in this country UK, that does 5 different things, Jump Start, Led light, 2 x 12 volt outlets, air pump and a 230 volt 200 watt inverter, £80 off ebay, about 100 bucks...Fred UK.
i guess this is an old video, but if you have an AC to DC converter, maybe you could use a wall outlet instead of the car battery...i'm looking for one now....Also, i don't understand why they don't make these tire inflators more often, with 110 volt for the wall socket instead of just hooking it up to the car....It seems that a lot of people would fill their's up at home so they could use a wall outlet for convenience......
Inflation time 80 seconds, pretty good. Although I wouldn't pay that price. For half of that price you could get one just as good:
Viair 00073 70P Heavy Duty Portable Compressor
I personally have the - 12 Volt, 100 PSI High Volume Air Compressor by Central Pneumatic. Which is fast and works just like the Slime one.
All available from Amazon or Harbor freight [CP one].
had always heard slime wasn't the best thing to use. I used it on a wheel barrow tire, which went flat again later on. I took the tire off the rim and the slime had TOTALLY rusted the rim on the inside. ended up replacing the whole thing / tire and rim. Green Slime did not work for me. I did later take tire and rim to a tire place and they put "no flat" foam stuff in it for $20.00. been fine and flat free ever since
bob
It bothers me there's no listed max psi
Very nice. I've got a cheapy in my car in case of emergency. This thing is faster and a lot quieter. Mine also gets extremely hot, But at $82.63 fot the slime I would say no thanks. Mine cost me $20 (when converted to $). Mine can also be plugged in to the 12 volt socket in the car.
