UTILITY IRON BATTLE!
Rick it's time to put that 2 iron through the ringer and compare to all the other great utility irons out there right now!
In the bag.... Mizuno MP-33's 3-PW, Mizuno wedges 56 & 60 degrees, Callaway XHot 5 wood, Ping G30 LSTec set at 9.5, Evnroll ER7, Bionic glove, Nike glove, Mizuno glove, and FJ rain gloves... Short tees as well as plastic 3 1/4" tees... and some other tees for driving range mats.
Of course, ball markers, magnets, and a club brush with some towels... I also rotate around golf balls... I love the ProV1 & Chromesoft right now, but since TP5's are on sale I'm gonna give them a go.
Currently, I do have a 3 wood, but I hit my 5 just as far and much more consistently... so I'm considering pulling it altogether. But also weighing the option of replacing 3 iron with a hybrid... Cobra or Mizuno and adding a 52 degree wedge... So decisions... decisions...

About to build a bag, first one ever, very high handicap at the moment, however thanks to you, Pete and my coach, i have managed to make massive strides this year, mostly in the last two months. Managed to kill my awful push slice and now down to a nice little fade and hitting 20 yards longer than the beginning of the year. Bit of a cobra fan, however stacks of TM product available in South Africa, so will probably be going for a full TM bag and then getting my official handicap.

We take pride in our tools. Love seeing the WS irons.. so underrated. I’m still on the (really loud) TM RSI TP irons... trying to move on but haven’t found anything yet.
Just put the Ping G40 driver in the bag and love it. Also put TaylorMade P790s in the bag 5-PW and am thoroughly enjoying some extra distance. My wedges remained Vokey SM6 this year. I play a Callaway UT 3 iron, m2 3wood and Ping Redwood Putter.
I'm a Yank, and I always loved the Union Jack. I think it looks cool on your bag.

Worked hard on my swing using your videos, HCPfrom 6 to 5 this year, correcting a little over the top tendency. I’m also interested in your Cobra F8 vs Ping G400. Looking forward to trying the F8 when available. I’ll take directional stability over distance if you conclude this quality in the F8. Thanks for your superb instruction.

I'm a new golfer and just invested in some new, fitted clubs. I didn't want to go crazy with the budget because I'm too new to justify spending a ton on high end clubs. I chose the Callaway X2 Hot irons mostly due to your reviews. I really enjoy them but haven't had much practice due to the cold winter weather here in Virginia.
Hi Rick! Great to see what's in your bag this year. I have been using a bit of a mixed-up set this year, but I also just started back in June this year. I have a Maxfli Milled face-balance putter that I have been loving, Warrior lob (60) and sand wedge (56), a Kobra King Pitching wedge, with some Wilson Pro-Staff irons (5,7,8,9), an Exotics CB Pro Tungsten 6iron, a Taylormade RBZ Max 4iron which I love, Warrior 5wood and 3hybrid, Taylormade R5 3wood and a Taylormade R7 driver. My goal was to break 100 before the end of year, and I did it twice this last week, with a 93 and 99. I have no doubt that you and your colleagues have helped contribute to that. ;) To treat myself, I got a full set (4-GW) of Mizuno JPX 825. They are amazing, but I have just bought them and have yet to get them on the course; I'm hoping they perform as well as they feel. I will keep my Taylormade RBZ Max 4iron, but replace my Kobra pitching wedge with the Mizuno. Thanks for all the great content. I'm a huge fan, keep it coming!

I too had the standard Epic driver in the bag for about a month last spring. I found out after a few rounds on different courses that if I didn't hit the ball between the screws, the driver punished me with poor distance. I also never got use to the strange sound it had when you hit the ball. Before getting rid of it, I tried going from the regular stock shaft to a stiff shaft. That helped a little with my accuracy and distance, but it made the club feel to heavy. I ended up trading it in for Ping G 400 sft. What a difference. The Ping is much more forgiving, and it also has a lighter swing weight which fits my 90 mph swing speed. I'm considering replacing my Callaway Fusion 3 wood for the Ping G 400 sft in the spring of 2018. Keep up the great, informative videos Rick.

Rick please please please please please review the new Mizuno ST180, I’m really thinking about swapping out my driver for it, I hit it the other day and my jaw fell off my face and landed in a pile of GBB Epics. The club went farther than my future.

I have the jpx900 driver in my bag because of your video review of it. So straight hahah I have the same cobra FW as you but in black. Callaway steelhead xr irons. Love em. And working on either the titleist or callaway wedges. Not sure yet. I use the TP5 ball as well. Amazing ball

Very interesting that your driver shaft is heavier than your 3W shaft. Usually it's the other way around. Also, update those stock grips! So many premium grips out there that feel so much better.

My What's In The Bag is really simple at the moment:
Mizuno MP52 Irons 3I - SW (need to get new irons but these are my old-trusty faithful favourites)
Ping putter, well, it's just "NG" now it's that old! But it's the first putter I ever had, a hand-me-down from my dad and i've stuck with it for 16 years now!
I don't use a driver any more, I had a Taylor Made R7 that I took out of the bag about 6 months ago as it was costing me too many shots and my old 3W was another hand-me-down from my dad, Taylor Made, couldn't even tell you the model, that went out of the bag for the same reason as the Driver!
My bag is certainly not as robust or thought out as yours Mr Shiels

My bag Wilson irons but FGTour F5 4 to GW (24 to 51 degrees #truelofts ) , woods cobra always!!! Fly Z 3wood (14.5), F6 driver (10.5) and finally a taylormade 3 hybrid sldr model (20 deg) . Wedges Wilson fg tour 58 deg and callaway md2 54. All stiff shafts.

Hey Rick, I'm currently playing the Cobra F7 driver, 6-gap F7 irons with X90 shafts and golf pride CP2 wrap grips. Love them! 2014 model Callaway 3 wood set at 16degrees. F7 4/5 hybrid, Cleveland RTX wedges, 54 and 58 degree and an old odyssey rosse II putter with a stroke saver grip. Playing better golf than I ever have. The vlogs help tremendously! Keep up the good work!
I still carry my titleist 990 2 iron...actually I play the 990s still..I havent found anything I like enough to part ways with them...that 2 Iron looks killer tho

Nice selection. Wilsons were a surprise. I did want to ask in what scenario are utility irons most useful. My best guess is probably as a driving iron, but what would prompt you to use it? I have a 7W that goes about as far as my 6i which can easily be replaced with a more useful club.

Rick I currently hit use the Cobra Fly Z driver. Is the F8 really that good? Ive just been curious. Callaway big bertha 3 wood. Ping hybrid. Ping g2 irons (need to be replaced) Titlest SM6 46° and 60° as well as Cobra tour trusty in the 52° and 56°. Keep up the good work man love the videos
I have a SLDR driver, Adams 3 wood (that’s cracked lol), an ancient Tommy Armour 2 iron from my first set ever (got them used for 15$) Taylormade RSI2 irons 4-AW, and a Max Fli SW and a Prophecy LW, with a Odyssey works 7h putter, all standard grips and standard stiff shafts. Got everything used except the putter, Only been playing 6 months.
I have all benross htx with an odyssey v line putter and miura wedges
Interesting that you initially loved the fade of the Epic Pro but now it has become bothersome...that's the exact same comment Mark Crossfield said last year....he went to the regular Epic, of course now he signed with Titleist so plays the D2. Btw I liked your comment about keeping the F7 3 wood over the new F8...after hitting both at the golf store I concur.

I'm currently swinging the Mizuno MP59, they're 6 or 7 years old I think. I'm looking for something knew, with a little more forgiveness in the long irons. Would love to see an AP3 vs 790 or an AP2 vs MP18. I'm about a 7 handicap.

In my bag - Wilson Triton driver, 9* loft, Aldila Rogue Silver MSI125, 60-TS (Tour Stiff) - may soon go back to either an Epic Sub-Zero or Ping G400 LST driver; Tour Edge Exotics CBX fairways, 13.5* loft with Mitsubishi Tensei Pro (blue), 70-S, and 16.5* loft with RT Technologies Zeus 75 shaft (x-stiff); Tour Edge Exotics CBX hybrid (either 18* with the 13.5* FW or 20* with the 16.5* FW) with 88 gram x-stiff shafts. Irons: Callaway Apex CF16/Pro 16 combo set with KBS Tour-V 110-S shafts (I usually substitute MD3 46* and 50* wedges for the Apex Pro 16 PW and AW); Callaway MD3 Black 54* and 60* wedges; Odyssey 2-Ball "Fang" putter with SuperStroke 17" grip and 50g counter weight.
