I know this episode is on the short side, but in what turned into an entirely unplanned, improvised trip, this location made the most sense as its own standalone chapter in the series, separate from Pike National Forest and separate from the next part of the journey you'll be seeing soon. I've squeezed in a few extra mid-week videos this month and will try to have one more for you at some point in the next few days as well. Thanks for understanding, and thanks for watching! 🙂
It is your channel, and your explorations, no need to justify where you go. Tourist's spots along the way are great and would be a shame to avoid, simply beacuses they dont match some arbitary definition. That was new to me and interesting. Keep up the good work.
I grew up in the Denver area and back then it was a real nice place to be. Now there is bumper to bumper traffic 24/7 and has basically turned into another LA. This is true for most of the front range.
I dig how you decided to leave the background noise (tourists talking etc.) in your scenery shots. Assuming you consciously did that and I thought it worked really well.
You still have the advantage, Don. For most tourists, this is all they have. You on the other hand have the means and ability to get to places where most tourists cant. The best way to deal with tourists is to remember that you're all there to see the same thing.
Lots of people but it’s still a great place. I climbed all over this place growing up. My grandparents lived within walking distance. It’s busy but hopefully lots of people loving it means lots of votes to protect it. Thanks for showing this cool park, Donald!
How cool that you were in my city, Colorado Springs! There are one or two trails in GotG that most tourists don’t know about that don’t get as much foot traffic. And during the Fall/Winter months, it drops off significantly. But yeah, during the warmer months it’s pretty much crawling with people. And speaking of wildlife, we have also seen a bobcat or two in the park. Even got close enough to one to take a selfie. 😅
Garden of the gods was cool. Christine said what makes it more impressive is that they are out by themselves, not up against a mountain range. We don’t like hoards of people either; but, like you said, when we are there we are one of the hoards. 🤪
Garden of the Gods wasn't what I expected either on this channel. The name sounded vaguely familiar and seeing the video it occurred to me that I've actually been there ages ago with some friends. Must be the first time I've been to one of the places you go to.
That's a beautiful area for sure! Growing up, we visited the Denver area nearly every summer. I can't remember if we ever made it to this place though. I know we visited the Flat Irons near the Red Rocks Amphitheater a few times. Thanks for sharing!
I wish I knew you were going to Colorado in advance I could have given you some really great lower altitude of grid locations that would blow your mind. Next time LOL. On our last trip we were in central Co. and were off grid camping for almost three weeks.
I have to admit I feel like at 6:10 you missed the perfect Steve Irwin impersonation.... 😂 I'm enjoying your series on Colorado adventures gone awry. Thanks for all you do.
LOL...so here's a little Steve Irwin story, sorta. In 2016, I took my (then 10-yr-old) daughter Lucie out to her favorite restaurant after a dance performance. We were sitting there and Lucie was all, "Dad, that's Bindi Irwin!" Steve's daughter Bindi was freshly famous after appearing on (and winning) Dancing With The Stars in 2015, which of course, having a dancer daughter, we watched every week, so we all knew who Bindi Irwin was. At first I was sure Lucie must be mistaken, but then I remembered that Steve's wife Terri is actually from our town (Eugene Oregon) and must still have family here, so I looked closer and sure enough, Lucie was correct, it was indeed Bindi. We chatted with her briefly and got a photo of Lucie with Bindi. 🙂
People aside, that is really cool to see in Colorado! Sometimes we just have to put up with the crowds to see some cool stuff, kinda like Crater Lake here at home, or when we went to Yosemite. Totally worth it now & then.
@@diamondtman true, but go on the off season, and accept the waterfalls will be low 😄 We went a few years ago, last week of December, and people weren't terrible. Got a walk up tent site in Camp 4. Worth it for the history there, alone.
I live about 1 hour north of there I don't go in to the valley at all anymore I would rather go up to the old Sugar Pine Railroad ROW to the old look out tower above Incline. Its a must travel trip and you see half dome from there Epic. Don't go if you don't have high clearance 4x4. There isn't a back road in that area I have not traveled.
Nice video considering the circumstances. We lived in The Springs for three years. Lots of people, both local and tourists. Cost of living is nutty. Recently we moved to the Loveland area and enjoy it much more. Wish we could have given you a tour of the lesser known areas here in CO. It’s hard to find places without all the traffic, but they’re out there. Even if you’re just looking for suggestions, keep us in mind the next time you’re out this way.
I was there when I was around 17ish or so. The visitor center didn't look like that back then. And while I'm not one to want to be around tourists myself if the park wasn't there, it would be some high end houses and would be in ruins. So this is the lesser of two evils
The place has changed a lot since my first visit in 1986. I am hoping you took it in for what it is worth now. Gold camp road and a road I can’t recall the name of that goes to Denver on dirt that starts in Garden of the Gods are much more fun. Cheers
Yeah there was apparently a smudge on the lens. It was there in Part 2 as well and you will be seeing it again in Part 4. 😆 I didn't realize that was happening until I was home and editing the videos together. 🤦♂
I was fortunate enough to visit Garden Of The Gods way back in 1971 while living in Colorado Springs for awhile. Back then, it was mostly undeveloped and all the pathways to interesting areas were just basic dirt. Crowds were non-existent. The city was just starting to turn it into a tourist attraction. In my opinion, they should have left it alone, but politicians are always driven by the prospect of money.
It's not impossible (as evidenced by the drone footage I was able to acquire) but you do have to arrange for a permit in advance. I didn't even know I would be there until literally 24 hours prior to getting there. :-)

Wow. Very nice and breathtaking view. Aerial video is just awesome. Never missed your episode even for just a short narrative video.❤❤❤

You are right about getting there for sunrise. The red rocks almost glow when the sun first hits them. Glad you enjoyed your visit.
Exploring is still exploring. No matter how big or small a find. As long as it's new to the explorer and interesting 🤗
Thank you for sharing
I dig how you decided to leave the background noise (tourists talking etc.) in your scenery shots. Assuming you consciously did that and I thought it worked really well.
Thanks for catching that. :-)
Only Donald can make a city park look so good! What a beautiful place! ❤
You still have the advantage, Don.

Although not your normal video, that was unexpectedly delightful.
Looks like a "must see" for sure!! Unusual rock formations. Very cool. Thank you!!
Thank you for sharing Donald. I marked the park in my map with a note that it’s like Sedona.😎👍
Colorado Springs used to be a small resort town. It's now home to over half a million people. Colorado is being loved to death.
Wow. Amazing structures. Glad you shared the visit.
That was some awesome scenery! So much so that I wish the video was longer😊.
Gorgeous area!

This is really one of your better productions. Well done.
Thanks for the brake down of this place.
Looks like a cool place. I will have to keep that in mind if I am traveling thought that area. Thanks! George.
People aside what a incredibly beautiful place. Geologically how does such a formation even form! Just wow

To many people in Yosemite

Rampart-Range road 😊
That’s it!!! Thanks
I was curious what you would think of Garden of the Gods. Very different than what you usually do.
Sooo epik amazing video
Check out the Florissant fossil beds next time. Lots of fossilized tree stumps there.
Some of those fossilized tree stumps are Red Woods believe it or not.
There are usually some big horn sheep that bomb around there.
Thanks!
Thanks so much!
Pikes Peak is massive
You should meet Mike from llod while in colorado, it will be a nice collab
Great as always Donald. Technote, is it my imagination or is the bottom center continuously out of foccus in the rock shots?
Saw that too. I'm guessing a smudge on one of his lenses.

God surely did create a wonderful world. Very sad that people are destroying it.

Altitude problems, next time, see your doctor before you travel for a medication called Diamox
Always a day late and a $ short. I was there on Wed the 20th.
