Hey Luis! I was in your fantastic city, D. F. in 1989. . I was deep in the bowels of your sprawling, crumbling, manic, beautiful train station looking for the 'luggage storage' dept. I was hopping a train to Oaxaca and wanted to store a couple of suitcases there. When I finally found the storage dept. I saw two underpaidoung men running the show. It was complete chaos. An avalanche of bags, suitcases and backpacks stacked 15, 20 feet tall. While I watched in awe as the dudes carried out their duties a familiar tune roared out of their ghetto blaster. The song
... cheese and crackers by deja voodoo! I the song wasn't out very long and they already had it remember this is 1989 so they must have ordered it by mail, had it shipped and we're boppin' and singing along. I told them they were a favorite of mine, had seen them several times in Canada etc..We all sang along and laughed. It was a great moment. I thought it really bizarre and funny and cool. So my question is: was one of those luggage handlers a young Luis? Longshot, I know, but I thought I'd better ask. Ha-ha! Anyways, just thought I'd share. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your city! Have a great Sunday, stay safe, and best wishes from Calgary, Canada!
Seriously though.. I randomly came across this album at an estate sale and was going to flip it. I never heard of them before, and after listening to it and wrote them off as a bad Joy Division Cramps wannabe, but after seeing the subtlety nuanced performances and award winning cinematography & production of this fine piece of modern art, I'm gonna keep it.
I went to 3 Voodoo BBQ (big showcase of Anglo underground bands) in the late 80s in Montréal and never got one piece of chicken (maybe that was a good thing). But I was fascinated by this tall guy who looks so agrevated when he sang.
I played them at CFRU at the University of Guelph during my 1am to 3 am shift on campus radio when I was 18 years old. Then I was fired for playing Jewish Princess by Frank Zappa.
RIP Tony ❤
R.I.P. Tony
I saw them in Toronto supporting Jeffrey Lee Pierce back in the 80's. I've got most of their albums. Thanks for sharing
Saw them at Foufs so many times when I was a lot younger…
Thanks for uploading this. I'm a longtime Deja Voodoo fan. We're few and far between. I'm glad these guys were out there making the 80's suck less.
this is worth gold! Thank you very much for uploading it, I'm a fan of Voodoo's heart. Keep uploading more material, Greetings from Mexico City
