  • It's a bit of an odd title, isn't it? What, do I have something against Pepsi? Nah! This is just a network mnemonic to help us remember the layers of the OSI network model!
    EXTRA CREDIT:
If you want to remember the OSI layers from 1-7, try "Please Do Not Throw Sausage Pizza Away!"
I talk about what I called "Carrier Detect / Collision Sense Multiple Access". I'm wrong! The technology is CSMA/CD, or "Carrier-Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection." Oops... right letters, right words, wrong order!!!
A lot of the older Internet protocols were written to explicitly be human-readable. HTTP and SMTP are only two of them, and all you need is something that's able to open a connection and then start sending text directly to the remote system--a telnet client is just the thing. But be careful, because these kinds of connections were never meant to backspace! As soon as you type something, it's been sent, and you can't undo it!
Sending email directly through telnet can actually be a really useful troubleshooting step, because you can confirm that the server is or is not accepting your email. Of course, you have to use an unencrypted connection to do it...

Here's an alternate mnemonic for us Canadians: "All People Should Trust NDP." ... It's a network mnemonic, not a political statement.

    0. OBS. Capture multiple inputs, such as camera and desktop (picture in picture).
    1. Davinci Resolve community edition. Overwhelming at first, but plenty of help is out there.
    2. Excalidraw: draw out complex diagrams as you narrate them.
    3. Or a second overhead camera: draw it out on paper while you record. Some very large channels use this retro technique.
    4. Learn a little bit of editing each video. It won't all be learned overnight. I'm sure you know this from your network learning adventure.
    5. "Keep 'em coming! heh heh" (Duke Nukem voice)
