As a Jamaican, it warms my heart to see Black Americans excited about Bob Marley. Unfortunately, both when he was alive and to this day, Bob's music and Revolutionary Message seemed to not be embraced by Black Americans. And it's so unfortunate, because Everything he sang and spoke about is For Black People all over the world. Bob spoke passionately about wanting to break into The Black American market, and he was getting that chance to tour in the US, in 1980, when his body started to succumb to the cancer ravaging him. FYI, The Marley documentary movie would be a great precursor to watching the movie, and I believe it's available on UA-cam. Bless Up. 🇯🇲👊🏾🇯🇲

Greetings from Seattle USA. I grew up in this era, and can shed some light. Your point is valid, but you have keep in mind how the airwaves worked in USA radio (and how they still work). If you look into it, American Airwaves basically excluded reggae (some say "blackballed" reggae), but it is was not the fault of Black Americans. But for sure, American record execs didn't want the competition for the ear of Black audiences, and for sure, the powers that be in the USA did not want Black Americans empowered with the message. His "Survival" album has been in my spirit my whole life, but never heard one song on it played in America, outside the CD that I bought, that whole album was my personal empowerment. So "intensely smooth" from start to finish. Even Ziggy said in his documentary of his concert in South Africa during the World Cup, The Apartheid regime banned the Survival album.
I grew up in this era, and I'm certain only one Marley song was placed extensively on American radio, and that was "I don't wanna wait in vain for your love". Nonetheless, a lot of Black Americans were into the music and into the sound, but we had to go out and get it for ourselves, we never expected to get it from the radio. Anyway, great comment nonetheless, I hope I gave some insight as a person who lived through that era as a teenager and college student. ONE LOVE!!!!! (well, One love EXCEPT during Olympics Track and Field competition LOL!!!)

@@dxwallace55 Thanx so much for taking the time to respond and provide some perspective on the Music Culture in The US during the 70s & beyond. Even in Jamaica, His music was only embraced by the Powers-that-be, Only After he Became Internationally Famous, while touring in Europe. What's very interesting to me is that Bob's Music has transcended Language, Culture, and Time, as his message of Empowerment has been championed by Every Revolutionary Movement around the world, except for in America. Bob Marley's message is so much more relevant now, and could be a source of strength and self-love, for Black Americans, like his Music has been for both of us. Black People should be quoting Bob, like they was quote Malcolm & Martin. Bless Up. 🇯🇲✊🏽🇯🇲

@@leisaamore7951 I'm enjoying the way you write your comments, though we'll probably trash talking during Olympics Track &Field LOL!! Not sure if the UA-cam algorithm got you to the video "The Night Bob Marley OUTCLASSED The Commodores & Took Over Their Concert", but this Jamaican brother kinda says it all, Bob only took that concert because he wanted to get that exposure in the USA. The Commodores were one of the Top 2 Soul bands in the USA along with Earth Wind & Fire. That incident is where Bob DESTROYED the Commodores in front of an American audience happened in 1980. In the early and late 70's, very few of us knew who he was. But after that show, everything changed. And you're right, he got that worldwide notoriety, but because there was too much power in his music, he was still blackballed from Black Radio. You gotta keep in mind Blacks have never owned their Radio or TV. It's funny, I can't even listen to a Commodores song these days, they had no staying power past the 80's. Commodores are basically forgotten, Marley is of course, immortal.....
Anyhoo, I'm pumped for the movie, I'm kinda the opposite of you, I'm proud of Jamaicans, and I'm kinda excited for them to be in the well deserved spotlight. I'm finding it fun watching Jamaicans be enveloped in their pride an excitement. Seems like they are understandably paranoid of another lame, "Made for Hollywood" movie, but I'm sure Ziggy made sure they kept it real. Jamaicans seem very on edge on any Hollywood movie about Jamaicans, I know how they hated "Cool Runnings", and the horrible accents in "How Stella Got Her Groove back", I can't wait to hear the Jamaicans reactions to it.
My only wish and regret, is that this is not a 10 part Netflix series.......

@@dxwallace55 First, Thanx for the compliment on my Writing style. Secondly, When it comes to Track and Field, Jamaicans & Americans are the fiercest of competitors, and Jamaica has worked long and hard to secure their place in Athletics History.
Yes, I did see the video on "Reggae Appreciation Society" about that EPIC Concert at MSG. I knew about the story, but he provided neccessary context to this Infamous Incident. While I appreciate the Praise for Bob, I'm not Ere for The Commodores Slander, Lionel Richie & The Commodores are Music Royalty. Put Some Respeck Pon Dem Name. 🤔😏
Bob & The Wailers were coming off The Most Successful European Tour, selling out Stadiums and such. But, Bob chose to take a paycut and perform as The Opening Act, For The Commodores, just so he could bring his Music & Message to Black American Audience.
On the subject of The Film, Jamaicans are always paranoid about The Way we are depicted on Film and TV. Because, Hollyweird almost always makes a mockery of our Language and Culcha. Cool Runnings was not as bad as people think, as Two of The Lead actors were Real Jamaicans, with numerous Jamaican thespians in supporting roles. But, Stella was TRASH. The only production that gets A+ for Authenticity is "Belly" Hype Williams got New York and Jamaican Culcha, Right.

@@leisaamore7951 Interesting, I thought "Stella" was decent, only because it was nicely shot. Stella was a straight up "Made for Americans" production though. I actually like "Cool Runnings", the only movie I "almost" cry at the end when they carry their bobsled after the crash. I did think Cool Runnings was low production and "Cheesy", but we all have our guilty pleasures. And, Malik Yoba was my boy from his "New York Undercover" series......
But yeah so far as Marley, it was actually White Americans that latched onto him first, because White Americans were observing how he was packing stadiums with 90,000 in Germany and England and so forth. But I respect the Commodores (to a degree) they was "my boys" back in the day. I just see them now as a pop group, their music didn't transcend the generations. I can't play any of their stuff today. However, Earth Wind & Fire, that they mentioned in that MSG video, is probably known as the best Black American Soul band ever. Although Lionel Ritchie of the Commodores is known as one of the bet songwriters in American History, though he wrote mostly for other people. I'm not sure if Marley outshining the Commodores made Ritchie leave the band though, Lionel just too good for that band, and had too many songwriting offers stacking up.
I actually never heard of "Belly", I'll have to pull it up. I did see "Shottas", starring one of Marley's sons, that was kind of ridiculous to me, like a Jamaican version of "Scarface". I couldn't get into it. so far as Track and Field, Americans are not as Nationalistic about it all as other countries. We just enjoy a good contest. I like Hansel Parchment more than Grant Holloway and the other American Hurdlers, and how can anyone not like Shelly Ann, such a fun and funny lady, she would have me cracking up if I hung out with her. I'll only exclusively root for USA in those relay races, everything else, its whomever I'm a fan of now matter whee they are from.....

I've already seen this movie twice. I cried. And I'm going to see it again. I've liked Bob Marley for a long time. I remember when he was shot and when he passed in 81. I was moved by this movie in a way I couldn't even dream of. Jah to the people!!! ❤️🙏

Don’t worry, the family was for sure involved! Matter of fact, it was produced by one of Bob’s sons, Ziggy Marley. You might know him, he was pretty big in the 90s for making raggae music just like his dad.

The actor who plays Bob is actually in the movie "Barbie" that you reviewed. You can actually catch him at timestamp 1min, 41seconds of your Barbie review video, he has the orange headband/sweatband (you gotta watch closely). When you get into in his interviews about how he got the role for "One Love", he was still filming the Barbie movie, and was practicing his Marley guitar and mannerisms during his long breaks between scenes in the Barbie filming.

Phaxx, Ziggy & Cedella were Executive Producers. Additionally, Neville Garrick, Bob's Friend and The Art Director for most of The Wailers Albums, was on set every day, guiding the process. Kingsley may not be a Jamaican, but he's a True Thespian, who seemed to have, put in the hard work of embody Bob Marley.
