Hey the semi sharpened bottom/top edges are for cutting back out of anything you puncher with the blade, So the tomahawk doesn't get stuck. Brilliant little hawk
Hey GideonTactical - awesome video! Was nice to see all the tests/tasks you put the Chogan through - enjoyed seeing the t-hawk in action! Thanks again for taking the time to make a review!
hell Crkt :) could you help me, i d like to replace the handle screws, i prefer hexagonal head screws. Could you telle me what is the size of this screws please, thanks
i love my Chogan too, i use it since one year. You dont talk about the tickness, it s degressive to the head from the end of the handle. 6mm to 4 mm! it's fantastic for a industrial hawk, mainly at 120 dollars!
@@ShooterMedic1818 the Kestrel is probably lighter. Both are very maneuverable though. I believe that is the Kestrel's selling point tho, it's designed to be on the lighter side.
I have this. It's just fine without a point. Mine came so sharp I cut my hand just pulling it out on the undeehook. RMJ design is sweet! Good to have a multiuse tool.
I watched your SOG Pillar video, and i bought it..i am very happy with..and now i watched this one and yes i bought it..i maybe do some add hammer side which get Hogue hammer part and attach on this one..idea is make wider..do you think it can handle it? maybe drilling can cause damage, what do you think? thanks

It is a really niece piece, no doubt but it's expensive if you're using it infrequently. My t-hawk use is limited. I've got the CRKT Woods Chogan model with the traditional wooden tomahawk handle and I love it. It's a heavier, more durable comparison to the Cold Steel Trail Hawk. Carries a great edge and a hammer pole just like this model but it was also about $40! So if you really only need a woods / camping tool I'd strongly consider the more traditional wooden handle option. Now if you are bashing zombie heads regularly maybe this version with full tang and removable scales is more important so you can wash of zombie brain goo.
I have been carrying the Chogan on kayak camping trips and ATV offroad trips - my only gripe was how fast the handle screws rusted the first time it got wet in the rain.
Great review Aaron! I have been debating now for a little over a month about getting a tomahawk, and it def would be from CRKT. With that being said I was going to get the Kangee but after seeing this I better think a little more about it... Cheers man
The only other full tang axe similar to this that matches it in performance and versatility is the condor thorax, but I do like these crkt's more. I got the kangee and after trying it out in the woods immediately wished I had gotten the chogon. Thanks for the vid.
Yeah, gotta say I laughed when I saw this comment. Unless you plan on punching that spike through some body armor or breaching structures/vehicles, NEVER go with the tactical spike. Lmao. Anyone with experience in woodworking, bushcraft, or woodland survival will tell you the same thing. Now that's not saying it wouldn't come in handy for something out in the woods, but the necessity for a combat purpose spike is fairly limited outside of breaching or penetrating armor. The two best options are the Woods Chogan or the NoBo. The only difference being that the Woods Chogan has a hefty hammer pommel, the NoBo has a wrapped design without a hammer pommel leaving it curved and smooth. I personally bought the Woods Chogan myself and haven't bothered to look for any form of replacement. It's the best option for the price and purpose of wood processing. Makes a great fighting hawk as well, paired with either my belt knife or brush chopper.
I would not hesitate to spend the money for that or even the other more traditional tomahawks that CRKT has produced. It's not everyday I can spend that much, but compared to other choices, the price and quality is fair. CRKT has budget knives, but I have never bought a junk knife from them. Personally I like the Kangee models, but any of them would be great to own.
really good tomahawk, i really love hawks i have a coldsteel riflemans hawk, cold steel viking hand axe and a cold steel pipe hawk. ever since you did your hh survivalist review , i started to like axes more.. so i bought a gransfors bruks wildlife hatchet and a small forest axe
Just got one of these today and it broke within the first minute of use. A chunk broke off the top of the bit while cutting through a 1.5" thick mesquite branch. Looking at the Amazon reviews, this is very common and hasn't been fixed by CRKT in several years. Looks like CRKT doesn't really care much about quality or their reputation.
Hi, great review work on the channel. Can you give your opinion on different Tactical Hawks you tested? How do they compare to each other ... Rune, Kangee/Chogan, others I haven't found yet on your channel. Would be great.
I recently started looking at tactical tomahawks and I'm happy to see Gideonstactical has a review on one of the ones I was looking at. Always a trusted place to go for unbiased, solid reviews... thanks.
Great video, great channel, just subscribed because of your message on how God used an ordinary man Gideon, thank you for sharing, God Bless You Brother, God Bless All ❤️
@@gideonstactical To bad crkt discontinued the Chogan, do you have a video review or can you do one on the crkt Kangee T-Hawk? Thank you and God Bless Brother
A hundred bucks for SK5, GRN handles and a cheap plastic sheath? Too much. I'm really not a fan of CRKT's cheap plastic sheaths. I bought an Obake a while ago. Love the design, but that sheath is just embarrassing. You can buy a Mora for ten bucks with a better plastic sheath. For the prices that CRKT ask, their sheaths should be actual kydex. Most American manufacturers are doing this. Cold Steel with their lousy "Secure-ex" nonsense and Esee with their low grade plastic sheaths. They really are getting too greedy and selling us trash dressed as quality. Of course, the moment you bring this up they all say "We can make better sheaths, but then the price will go up." No, the price shouldn't go up. You're just being greedy by trying to make huge profits selling cheap crap to your customers.

I would actually reach out to our Customer Service and Warranty department at info@crkt.com as they will have the most information for you.
Ok, thank you for your answer.
Thank you for the review! Tomahawk really aren't my thing, but this is one of could see myself using. I'm appreciating the variety on the channel!

It has to be a CRKT....good old product as always....great quality, great construction, great piece in general
That's one tight chopper! I actually prefer the hammer back over the spike. Thanks.
I would love to see a vid comparing the performance of the Rune vs Kangee!!! PLease!!!
Looks good. I prefer the hammer head too. Good video.
I have a Kangee and an RMJ Kestrel and performance wise the CRKT hangs all day.
Would like to see you review RMJ stuff.
Dan Cobin this tomahawk is designed by RMJ I believe
thatguuy21 correct. It's based on an RMJ design.
@@dancobin1985 I know this is a really old comment but hows the weight compair to both? Thinking about an RMJ

The woods Chogan is more like the cold steel Pipe Hawk or Rifleman's Hawk in purpose rather than the small & light trail hawk.
The Woods Chogan is a nice piece. No nonsense, no gimmicks, just business. It's my favorite woods tool behind my old double bit felling axes.
Prefer it with the spike but this one is good too.
I have been carrying the Chogan on kayak camping trips and ATV offroad trips - my only gripe was how fast the handle screws rusted the first time it got wet in the rain.
kk5sc sorry to hear that
Loved how you handled hitting yourself in the face with the sheath. Didn't stop and redo just kept going.
Do you recommend this hawk? I heard they known for the blade to chip so I'm alittle hesitant... great video
Have you ever looked at the traditional khukris like the Himalayan Imports Ang Khola? They look like insane choppers.
Any suggestions on where I can buy a Chogan version, they were discontinued some time ago by CRKT. I am open to lightly used ones.
Personally I prefer the Kangee because it has the spike

Do you prefer to carry a tomahawk like this one or your ESEE 6? Which do you find (full tang knife vs tomahawk) to be more useful in your kit?
Great video, thank you. It appears to chop so much better than the Tops full tang hachet.

Great job I want one let's get the back yard taken care of
+gideonstactical how does the chogan/kangee compare with the rune in performance? I'm bit torn between the two.
mc95 the rune would be better hand to hand, this one is better for breach and chopping with its longer handle and heavier weight.
I've seen multiple reviews and photos of broken axe head, especially near corners. Has this issue been remedied by crkt?
DaddyCharlieNoah not sure, all I know is this held up well to all my use chopping and prying
Good review man , your back yard makes my neglected yard look pretty good lol .
A very nice tool
Thanks Aaron!
Nice review as always
Allen and torx have always stripped faster for me than Phillips. Especially torx...

You don't carry a hawk to hammer tent spikes!
Food for thought: Expending a lot of energy. Why work so hard? In many cases, easier to use a small saw.
