Does not work anymore, already obsolete method.
There must be another method surely? Paid a lot for new special email domain and I can only use the default green google profile pic?

Thank you very much for this. The method absolutely works, for everyone in the comments that hasn't managed to get it right yet, make sure you apply the changes on the Google profile and NOT on Gmail. There was also a lag of 20 to 30 minutes in my case until the change was applied.
I don't see an option (as of June 2024) to "Use your existing email" - do you know any way around this?
Go to Google website and create Google account not Gmail account. Follow the video properly..

Don't know if you figured it out yet, but I discovered that if you click "Manage Your Google Account," then "Personal Info" from the box on the left, then scroll down to "Contact Info" and add your business email, then click the email address and click "About me emails." Make sure under "Contact Info" there that your business email and photo are both set to "Visible to anyone" and you should be good.

Good video. But they don't allow this anymore. Only gmail emails. Is there a way around?
When I tried to do it from Gmail, it didn't let me. However, It worked for me when I did it from www.google.com

That's because we are creating Google Account here Not Gmail Account.

You might have logged in with another mail id with your domain name I guess

I just Crosscheck this, It is showing and You have the Option "Use your existing Email. Make sure you have select "For my Personal Use" at the beginning instead of "For Work or my Business".
I recommend you to watch the video again and follow exactly step by step as shown in the video.

Does not works anymore, at first i entered my custom email address and created a gmail account but as soon as I clicked on Mail it showed I have to upgrade the account to a gmail account, after which the account no longer use the custom email address to send mails and can only be used for login purposes.
It definitely works, I've done it today. The changes should not be applied on gmail but on your google profile instead. Make sure you follow the exact steps on the video, best of luck!
Got it working, just added my new custom email ID with my old gmail account as an alternative. But how long does it take to display on mobile devices without clicking on the profile icon.

A while ago, I successfully changed my photo for my alias - I believe using this method. But I changed things around with my Workspace accounts & am now trying to add a photo to my alias again & it's not working this time. I selected "use your existing email" but when I typed in my alias email, it said "That username is taken. Try another." I even tried making a brand new alias email I didn't have previously (thinking perhaps because I upgraded my alias email to a real account & downgraded it back to an alias, that perhaps it won't work anymore) but that one didn't work either. Still said the username was taken.
How did you get your photo with the yellow background?

Hi @Key2Blogging, thanks for this informative video. need your help. What’s the difference between the method in this video & adding “alternative email address”.
Side note: I’ve already created an email forwarding “alias” with my gmail acc.
After I had completed that step, I realized I did not have a profile picture & that’s when I stumbled across your video. However, every other video I had seen was saying “add alternative email” but I found your method easier.
However, after I used your method in this video to create the gmail acc using my business domain. I then clicked on “gmail” to view mails & didn’t allow me. Instead, it stated that “By completing this form you’re upgrading to Gmail…” is it then still necessary for me to add the gmail “business domain” I created as an alternative? It wasn’t allowing me to add it as an alternative. Please kindly assist me.
No Need to upgrade to the Gmail, You can skip that step, leave as it is. Just create a New Google account using your business email address and set the profile pic on your Original Google account (Gmail Account)

Open in another browser where you don't have any google account logged in and choose "For Work or My Business" and then it lets u use ur own email.
