ive hit a teostra with a dragon pod when he was chargeing for a super nova and it sealed him stopping the explosion at the last second and then he kinda looked around mid air like wtf just happened
Zerocool3809 just use a flash pod. Knocks him out of the sky.
That's pretty nice to know though, sometimes you just don't have a flash pod ready

i know i was out of range of the attack anyway and the pod was what was already loaded
I was using nergigante gun lance and I was right underhim in the middle of attacking. I would have died if my wyrmstake didnt hit him lol.

Elderseal also removes enraged state from normal monsters. Basically elder seal stops every monster in the game from doing their most powerful stuff.
A note about Elder Seal: It does have some effect on non-Elders, specifically it reduces the duration of their enraged state (beyond what a hammer/hunting horn/CB with Impact phials does). You can see when the effect is active by watching your damage numbers; if the numbers have a distinct blue color regardless of what hitzone you just struck the Elder Seal is reducing the timer. It's really visible on Jho; his buffed state takes minutes to wear off and he can reapply it at will, but when Elder Seal kicks in it can cut the time he spends buffed (and subsequently lead to him catching his breath). Dragon ammo or a bow with high Elder Seal will demonstrate that nicely against him as the piercing qualities of both can apply it faster. A Dragon CB can also do this.
Elder Seal on other EDs works as follows:
Zorah: Unaffected cause Zorah is dumb.
Xeno: Reduces the duration of the superheated floor, causes flinches.
Kulve: No effect from weapons but ever 4th Dragon Pod is guaranteed to flinch her. The first three can be fired at any point in the fight; the flinch buildup doesn't reset until she flinches from a headshot. Additionally, if that pod is timed during one of her enraged "the floor is lava" it will knock her out (there's a specific animation which is vulnerable to this; she'll rear up on her hind legs and breath straight down in front of her, and the lava will reach across the map).
Behemoth: Increased flinch reaction. When Elder Seal triggers it will disrupt any action Behemoth is doing other than summoning a comet or casting Ecliptic Meteor. Hitting him with 5 Dragon Pods will automatically force enmity on you (same concept as KT's pod vulnerability).
Lunastra: Similar to Teostra, reduces her Nova charge rate. Using Dragon Pods can also interrupt her Nova mid-animation, provided she's hit by enough (and you have to be pretty crazy to try it).
Leshen: Dunno because I haven't fought him yet (PC player).

ive kept shooting dragon pods everytime i see them due game told "they allegedly can kill dragons" in hopes of hidden bonus dmg. I know they did SOMETHING cause it was somehow easier when using em. Now i understand why. Excellent video! Very informative. Thank you!

I realized this after I farmed rathian for her final form long sword. Took me forever, but I was happy when I finally went to hunt him, only to realize it wasn't doing anything. Pissed me off more than it probably should have to be honest.
I hope Jho weapons have Elder Seal. Admittedly, aside from having more Elder Seal options, I wish for this because it would imply Jho's behavior toward Elder Dragons. Yes, what I'm saying is that I want to see Jho turf war with Elders and, even if he technically isn't one, hold his own... I mean, being Jho, he's gonna attack them anyways cuz it's just what he does. He can't help it.

True but unlike Odogaron,Deviljho could have an advantage with Vaal Hazak since he uses Dragon attacks and Vaal Hazak is weak to Dragon. It would be cool if we saw a beam struggle between their breath attacks. 🤣
Well, we know that in past games it's been classified under a threat level equal to Elders, similar to Rajang and highest level rare subspecies like Abyssal Lagi or Molten Tigrex. If it does get wrecked by Elders, I don't imagine it'll be any worse than Elders wreck each other. I've seen Nergigante wreck Kushala for instance. Jho has it's highly aggressive nature to maybe tip the scales in turf wars and send some Elders away even when they'd have had the advantage if they'd actually stuck it out.
At least that's me theorizing. And if he had something of an Elder Seal effect when attacking or at least the ability to ignore their abilities, would indicate close turf wars. If Rajang came to this game as DLC, you'd imagine Elder Seal would make sense on its weapons since it apparently hunts Kirin. Jho is kinda a bigger Rajang, in terms of attitude and threat level, that isn't particular about who it "hunts".
Pretty sure his weapons will have elder seal since they will be dragon element weapons. The real question is, what will be the strength of it? I hoping high, or at least average.
Seems like all dragon element weapons carry the ability to elderseal.

Elderseal skill only has 1 level though.
Unfortunately, you can't stack the ElderSeal decoration, so you can only get Jiva weapons up to ElderSeal Average.

Cody Risling Quest is called “The white winds of the new world” It will give you research commission tickets. Talk to commander after completing all quests up to 8 star. You completed if the tag is red, if it’s blue you’re missing a quest. Pretty sure about the 8 star because my 9 stars aren’t done. I think this also give you rainbow pigment. Hope this helps and if I’m wrong hopefully someone will correct me.

Kirin and Teostra need Elderseal the most imo. Although they can be defeated without it, it's a much easier time if you use it. The rest you can easily defeat without it. Glad someone dropped a definitive video of its effectiveness though. Nice work Arekkz!
Trey2Da you dont need elderseal for teostra, just a lot of flashbugs and he will be done in 10min or less. Kirin on the other hand is very nice to have.
Just wear Fireproof mantle for Teostra.

...I've been getting my face kicked in by Kirin for the past 3 days trying to get past hr 49... and I'm not too sure if elderseal even works on tempered Kirin, as he has never flinched except when I hit him with blast coating and his damn shielding/armor is always activated despite me nailing him constantly in the face.
Just get heat res for Teostra. As for Kirin, just boost your thunder res to the maximum with jewels and meals.

From my (limited) experience, it seems as though Elderseal functions as a status effect that, when it activates, flinches (might even topple sometimes, maybe) elder dragons that are vulnerable to it and dispels their aura abilities. Except on Nergigante, where its effect, as Arekkz said, is hard to quantify. Given that it comes exclusively on dragon element weapons, if you aren't using a bowgun, it can sometimes be better to run a weapon with an element/status effect that the dragon is weak to if you aren't bothered by their auras. Really best reserved for Kushala Daora, since the wind aura is very annoying, and Vaal Hazak, because it also loses access to most of its Effluvium attacks once the aura has dissipated, and it makes itself extremely vulnerable when trying to regain it from its surroundings. Daora and Hazak also both have decent vulnerabilities to dragon element, so an Elderseal weapon is a decent choice for them.
Also, Kushala Daora, Teostra, Lunastra, and Kirin all seem to need to be below certain health thresholds before their heads can be broken (maybe Vaal Hazak too), so if you're going for maximum part breakage, go for the other break points first unless you've got a KO weapon. Nergigante does not, however, and his horns can be broken quite early in the fight.
I found that on Nerg and Teo having 2 Elderseal weapons will boost your teams survivability. They both are just so good at OHKOing people and this will help keep that under control

I've been wondering why I rarely see these monster moves and realized I've always had elder seal. I've been playing this game on easy mode lol
From the video, and from my experience from playing the game, it seems like staggering Vaal Hazak with an Elderseal weapon removes some of his miasma. This makes Elderseal weapons much better when used against him, since this negates his ability to use attacks that require the gas, and he will either need to enter an angered state, or collect the miasma from the player or from surrounding enemies or the environment that has been infected with the gas to acquire it again.
They should add a Geralt of Rivia armor to the game like they did with Aloy.

I've actually seen nergy's spikes go from nearly completely black to completely white with 4 elder seal weapons on him
Question: Does the elder seal effect activate quicker with fast hitting weapons? Usually you use fast hitting weapons to inflict status effects like poison, does this work the same way with elder seal or is the damage output the mattering factor?
I believe mechanically speaking the game considers Elderseal a status (with diminishing returns and everything) so logically it would handle similarly to other status effects.
Yeah I thought the same at the beginning but considering that it would seem kinda unfair for slower hitting weapons not having access to such an effect. Also it doesn't replace the slot for your status/elemental damage, so there might be another damage calculation. Would be nice if the devs could give us more insight about these things ^^
I can't say for certain, but i'm in the boat that it builds up and procs like a status effect. it seems to make the most sense, as the slower buildup was never meant to entirely alienate slower weapons from using statuses, its just not quite as good. if you are good with your weapon and land enough hits, i'm sure elderseal will work just as well with any weapon.
I imagine the logical move for Capcom would be to tie the elderseal damage to the motion damage of the weapon to keep slow elderseal weapons viable. I suppose we'll have to wait till it's data-mined tho. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Status effects arent exactly better on fast weapons. They just proc more. The damage done is how the status is inflicted.

i feel like none of them give a fuck about elderseal in multiplayer. Just like cutting tails, it feels like it has no effect at all, unless everyone is actually using elder seal in multiplayer
well if you're the only one in a 4 man party using it then you would have to deal elderseal-status for 4, just like with para or sleep

Sealing an elder dragon right before they do their special move is like saying bless you before someone sneezes
You can also craft the Wyrmslayer Charm. It boosts your weapon's elderseal and grants 1 level of dragon damage up. I use it with my Vaal Hazak gama set for some Dark Souls themed fashion hunting. hehe.
Elder seal seems to prevent some of my attacks from bouncing when I strike at nerg’s black spike but I haven’t tested it with controlled variables.
Also there’s a charm that has elderseal up and dragon attack one which I think is worth having in some cases. I noticed it existed after hr100 but it could be available before that.
Also people told me that if my bowgun ammo did zero damage on certain part of kirin, daora, or teo, that’s because of the elderseal, but slicing ammo seems to ignore it, and does normal non-weakzone damage. Honestly against kirin, the nerfed slicing is still better than most other ammo.
You forgot Xeno Jiva, when Elderseal activates on Xeno Jiva, it negates the stored up energy in the body part you're attacking. I tested this on its front claw. Whenever elderseal proc'd, his stored energy (Light Blue) disappeared. Also it can reduce a powered state of a body part. As an example since it is the most noticeable, the energy ribbons that appear on Xeno's claws, disappear if Elder Seal activates.
I used an Elderseal GS on Vaal Hazak, and I was able to totally strip the effluvium from his belly, making the fight WAY easier
Actually, Dragonslayer earrings can be obtained without doing all the arena quests. I'm not sure exactly what needs to be done, but me and my buddy have only done Barroth, Azure Rath, Diablos and team Lenno, yet we both got the earrings at the same time

also, elderseal in vaal's case will prevent him from "sucking" effluvia from monsters, and apparently it can also prevent him from doing his breath attack where he stands on his hind legs and spews it on the gound (making that aoe cloud), i've had him do the same attack repeatedly to no effect = more time for me to dish out dmg without dodging shit

Teostra’s flame aura dissipating is the most telegraphed because it makes the loudest noise in the game.

The Elderseal Earring is from completing all Arena quests at B rank or higher. Had completed them with a few C ranks but as soon as I got them to B rank I got it. Just FYI for those still working at it.
A few things that I've noticed in order to kind of counter-act the lack of elder seal weapons you might have on your team, is that you can stun monsters out of their aura. Even though this really only applies to Kushala and Teostra, it still helps. If you can manage to stun Kushala in any sort of way (i.e. head flinch or flash bomb) you can drop his wind aura. The same applies to Teostra, but the flash bomb part is a bit tricky.... My own personal way to counter anti-dragonseal against the Nerg is to simply use Lance. Full Defense Guard Lance with that Kirin Skypiercer and you can kill him no problem.
Poison stops Kuala from the wind shield as well. At least it did in freedom unite. I miss that game.
This works on Xeno'Jiiva as well I think. Hitting it's forelegs, head, tail and possibly even its belly (when glowing red) with dragon pods or elderseal weapons seems to push the glow down a level (so from white glow down to blue or blue glow down to no glow) and stagger it. Parts of the Xeno'Jiiva that are not glowing do not seem to cause the blue dragon elemental explosion after he has used an attack, which can make the fight quite a bit easier. Tested this with Nergigante Bow a few times, though it could also be related to breaking those parts.
I can see it being a godsend with Kushala in particular. I got so frustrated with him, I had to make an entire armor set just for fighting him.

Hey Arekkz! You should do a video explaining the differences in the various feystones! I've heard a lot of different people say different things and, not that you're the creator of the game, I feel like you do really good research on these types of things.
Elderseal weapons can break Nerg's black spikes if you work em enough, you can see it in action best with a hammer, great sword, and charge blade.
from what i've found out today, weapons with high elderseal, like deviljho weapons which im currently farming. Handicraft provides white sharpness, ive paired it up with speed sharpen, max atk. evade distance. its working out pretty well for me. check it out for yourself

Its not super hard to solo all arena quests with B rank, but yes, arena quests are always made with 2 people in mind, and do not scale down for solo players

Actually, with Nergigante, High Elderseal weapons break those spikes fairly quicker, giving you more time to prevent his dive and keeping him pinned.

I recommend Azure Rath armor for first timer Nergigante hunts, Minds Eye makes it easier to trigger the effect once you have a dragon weapon, plus you can get some very good damage if you make the dragon king eyepatch.
Legit straight thought they increased the severing and breaking of parts, like, they cut off tails easier and broke horns easier cause it had a little icon cutting a dragon in half lol
For nergigante it make the black spikes breakable, but the rate of groth is the same

Elder seal needs a massive buff. I can knock nergigante spikes off of his neck, AND his arm, while he's already down, and they will grow right back, instantly, within that same knock down. He gets up, he does his super, I'm damn near dead. Elder seal is false hope.

a bit of a caveat to elderseal with teostra is on rare occasions if you seal him after he builds his flame shield up 3 times, usually this is the prelude to a supernova, after the elderseal wears off he can go straight into a supernova. I don't know if this is a bug or anything but it has happened to me a few times maybe 3 times out of 15 kills I have on him.

It is almost a necessity to have one player with an elder seal weapon when fighting a elder dragon. You can slay an elder dragon without elder seal, but it is a long hard fight. Elder seal makes it easy. If I have a choice between doing things the easy way or the hard way, I choose the easy way. Elder seal is the easy way.
That explains why the Big Glowy Fuck Boi doesn't drop any Dragon Pods.

elderseal is kinda op tbh. i did not realize however, that there was a jewel for elderseal. I might need to make a set specfically for using xeno's weps at medium elderseal, since they can take advantage of elders weakness to dragon well. I also hadn't thought about it but i need to make a set with minds eye specifically for Kirin, cuz elderseal doesnt seem to stop his rage enough for my liking.

This should at least be crit boost 2, if you have weakness exploit jewel get weakness exploit to 3. Crit boost 3 can be obtained with xeno charm
3. ONLY ATTACK the face when Kirin summons lightning in front of him. He has 2 or 3 very specific animations for this. After fighting a lot of Kirin you start to find more openings.
This is how I've hunted several tempered Kirin, even with investigations with 15 minutes AND restricted to one cart per quest. I only recommend fighting it solo. I'm no pro, I've just practiced a lot. Happy hunting!

It's not meta but I've been appreciating the Elderseal on my Nergigante CB. Really makes a difference when you don't have to worry so much about some of their nastier attacks. Been taking that in preference to the Diablos CB lately.
I honestly have no idea how people dislike a video like this... Everything is easily explained, Arekkz is clear and precise with everything he says.. What part of this is worthy of a downvote? Someone please tell me, i would genuinely like to know.

So what I'm getting from this is that with 7 dragon pods and 3 dragon ammo, LBG is essentially worthless against Elder Dragons. I've fought a few Teostras and Kirins and as soon as that shield goes up, I'm basically stuck heal/buffing people until it's gone.
How about Xeno'jiiva? Doesn't it derages him
i know in phase 2 of xenojiiva if it's flying and you hit it with dragon pods etc. it will fall to the ground, but i'm not sure if elderseal has any effect or not

Yes it does. It takes him out of the enraged red state and knocks him back into blue. You can tell by his stomach/chest

It does effect xeno jiva. Reduces the effects of his pillars of fire. also reduces how much he uses them. Also elderseal is treated as a status. so they do end up building a resistence to it. Personally I really only think elder seal is super good to have on vaal hazak fights.
As he spreads his stuff everywhere rather quickly. tesotra and kushala can be abused with flash pods so it's really not needed. xeno is just easy. and nerg is not really harder or easier with it tbh. Kirin potentially. but he spazzes out and moves a lot. so it's hard to consistently proc with him anyway. and most of the fight you spend just dodging his lightning.
It should also be mentioned that bow users deal no damage when attacking anything but the head on teostra and kirin (not sure about kushala).

I think elder seal also has a stronger effect if the dragon element is high on said weapon thus allowing you to knock elder dragons out of their powered up auras. Xino weapons with high elder seal skill would do more elder seal damage than Nergigante weapons that have high elder seal but low dragon atk. Now if you have dragon atk up on Nergigante weapons than it would be equal to having elder seal high on Xino weapons, unless you have Dragon atk up and elder seal high on xino weapons, which already have high Dragon element atk then the xino weapons are clearly the better choice when going up against elder dragons.
I only have one elder seal gem so I'm unable to confirm this info myself.

Just as I thought, last night when I fought kushala daora with elderseal weapon, it stop daora wind aura. Not permanent but it allows me to smack his wings and severing his tail easily. And also I just know about elderseal gem when watch this. thanks arekkz u made my hunting spirits rise again.
With the Nergal Gouge and a palico weapon with high elderseal, I never saw the wind aura. The other two Elders moved too much to take the auras off.
For teostra i always use the fireproof mantle so the flame aura doesn't really matter to me

since dual blades hits faster and applies status effects quick than most weapons, would a spiky boi dual blades cause the elder seal effect to happen almost instantly, P.S you can survive a Toestra/Lunasta super Nova with fully upgraded Xeno armour :D
So much to learn about mhw thats not explained at all in the game. It feels like going back to school. Except the teachers have all buggered off home and you got to pass exams and tests with no help or instructions.

Wish I knew this when I fought tempered kirin. I would have brought a deviljho or nergigante charge blade. I learned the hard way using rathalos charge blade and keeping my sword charged to punch through it. Small damage but atleast I can get hits in without bouncing.
I remember when poison was enough to remove Kushala's barrier. And it was what a flash bomb to stop Chameleos going invisible ? Or was it still poison.
Everyone is hating on Elderseal, but it works. On a team your whole team has to use it. Why would they make something so easy that you could just cheese the boss? I'm hearing a bunch of whiners who just want to quickfarm, and who also may lack hunter skills.
can you cover Bow guns and Elder Seal, at first it sounds like they do not have it at all, but now i have hear rumors that dragon shot dose it, and possibly wyvern shot.
Cool, thanks for the explanation. I kinda wish status effects were more potent in general though, especially for bows which carry very limited amounts of coatings (Elderseal Coating in the expansion would be cool) like even with my Flying Kodachi Strikebow which has extra paralyze strength vs a monster with 3 stars weakness I'll maybe get 2, 3 procs tops if I'm lucky.
And for how short the duration is that honestly sucks. I'd rather see Paralyze changed to last much, much longer and rather than basically being another stun, have it cause monster attacks to fail, flinching them for a second or two instead based on weakness /potency. Like have multiple levels of Paralysis be possible so bringing a tonne of ammo for it isn't pointless.
Same thing for poison but have it scale off the monster's max HP. Like 1%/tic at level 1 and up to maybe 5%at level 3 IF they are weak to poison.
So it's Dragon Silence. Situational, but powerful.
