I actually like that the tab bar uses the default Adwaita tabs, even when the top bar is hidden. Not only does it make the app feel consistent with the rest of my desktop, but if I want a tab bar that better matches the terminal, it’s easily achievable with a simple CSS code snippet.
The Zig language is actually designed for interoperability with C, so I'm sure it's just directly using Gtk's C libraries. In fact, Zig's build system can be used to compile C programs, so it's entirely possible to switch a C program over to use their build system, and then gradually rewrite it in Zig...
that's actually what convinced me to use Zig in the first place, because the truth is that C is so bare-bone, that when you are a C programmer for some times, you start to build your own ecosystem and your own standard library, and when you do make projects, you can have an incredible amount of code, and it's hard to justify a full rewrite of it in just a "new" language. But when you can do it painlessly whilst actually also improving the build system I mean it's an incredible win. I honestly don't think there is a language that's so close to C like Zig is other than C itself.
I think that the guy who developed this have done a really god job on this as he have mostly done it alone and come this far in the first public release. I also like how he have done it(native) and his goals means he is serious about it and the continue development.
@@mii_beta i guess they have things like custom ssh clients, so it kinda makes sense for them. i don't think ghostty has that or even has any plans to have it. might be wrong tho
Just for settings and sometimes for quick learning/reminding keybinds. For terminal it would be maybe like 10 positions (split, close, theme, font size etc.), but they can be handy when you want to quickly tweak something. Also, it's wrong. Ms Terminal doesn't have custom ssh client (at least nothing that external that you have to configure it separately).
Tabs placement below the top bar is the best place. In some applications like Epiphany or Nautilus or builder, there's no place for tabs on top bar and making them differ per application cause inconsistency
I personally think I will just stick with tabby terminal. It is slow to launch but it ticks a lot of boxes. It doesn't have ai stuff but it is quite configurable. It is like a gtk variant of extra-term. I believe it is wayland compatible too.
I tried it once , but it didn't go well. It does not look great and native on my gnome desktop too. I am a sucker for apps that look native to my desktop environment
@@mii_beta for now i really enjoy ghostty. It has the most important functions for me like split view, good looking, active development. Still some bugs like you said in your video but i give ghostty a chance. Im using kitty on hyprland so text configuration is also not a big issue. For gnome i stay with ghostty, hyprland still kitty, there is no better option for now
yea.. i dont get it. i'm seeing so many videos about how great this is. i can find no compelling reasons to switch from konsole, which i'm super happy with. is that weird?
This video is talking about gtk terminals. Konsole is a qt based terminal, and in general, qt based terminals tend to be much more feature rich then gtk ones. The only two terminals with decent features and is gtk based, are roxterm and tabby. Tabby has experimental plugin support that may allow it to compete with konsole in features and speed. It also has session management support, allowing you to pickup where ever you last left off when you closed it. You can choose the default shell in its settings. But yeah, it is pretty hard to match what konsole has to offer without having ai in the picture. On a side note, you may want to check out wave terminal. It comes with a ton of useful featres, if your ok with it's clunky interface and electron. Still in late beta. It is available to download for deb and rpm. Arch users will have to use the aur.
The shader needs to be edited so that it can display the text. Changing the background opacity won't work. In fact Ghostty totally ignores the background opacity when you use a custom shader.
@@mii_beta I can't post URLs here without UA-cam trying to ban me for a time. m-ahdal on github has a ghostty-shaders repo. And there are some links on my fearlessgeekmedia Awesome Ghostty repo to a couple of other shaders too. I also have shome shaders that I will be putting up on Github but haven't gotten around to yet. It might take a little work, but an AI LLM can help you to make the one you found work with Ghostty. I had to tell it to set it so that a background image/video could still be seen. That's how I made my shaders, actually. I know, that's cheating. But I don't know how to do anything with glsl. I just have ideas.
programmers still getting hyped for terminals in 2024? how lacking in imagination and innovation. the acme shell is more than sufficient and has mouse support for setting point.
Tell me, is this Baby Wogue growing/evolving, from baby to teenage Mii beta, and in later stage of life will be grown person, and later old person?! Overhyping is the word of the nowadays, as usual :)
Kitty is better. I was using Yazi and noticed that Kitty Image Protocol is faster in Kitty than it is in Ghostty. GTK tabs in Ghostty also look ugly af. Edit: Just so you guys know, it is not "benchmark faster". It is faster in the sense that you can see previews take longer to load in Ghostty.
Ok i tried Ghostty but i don't see any advantages over kitty, which i am using as my default terminal. Kitty also has it's own customizable tab implementation, and it uses about 50% less memory than Ghostty on my system. Ghostty seems pretty nice overall but i don't really see the hype i guess.
Im not trying to be a hater but I feel ghostty tries to over simplified things that make it complicated 😂 I don’t like editing this way I like editing every thing in text editor and color by color and all I felt stupid when I discover how to do it then I just uninstall it and went back to their terminal I was using before this one is not for me
Freedom of speech is that no one forces you to choose something by force, such as religion or something else. mocking other people's religion is not freedom of speech. mastering a programming language does not mean you are above God . disappointing madness
The whole point of it is that you can mock religion without being lynched, mockery is part and parcel of how society evolves, you destroy the point of freedom of speech when we can't mock elevated concepts and institutions and can't change in a free way. By the way, it sounds like the CC is native to the culture so it's obtuse to immediately take offense on behalf of them.
