I love how Dennis constantly said 'we' and rarely 'I'. It was always about his teammates with him, rarely ever just thought of himself. He is such a humble human being and deservedly has his statue outside the Emirates. He will always be the greatest Arsenal player to me
Liverpool supporter here. Absolute legend and a top top top player. It was an honour and sincere pleasure to watch him play. Statue well deserved, and a fitting tribute to an incredible Arsenal career and an incredible footballer.
Man United fan here, I became obsessed with Dutch football when I was about 8 or 9,when Dennis was playing for Ajax.....Always pained me so much he signed with Arsenal, genuinely one of the best players to ever touch a ball, absolute poetry in motion...deserves twenty statues, and fair play to Arsenal for doing it.
irishnewblood we dutch are having a shit year. only top player we have atm is Arjen Robben. after him we dont have anyone whos world class.. hope the future will change tht
It will mate, you have a few young players who are showing some serious potential...But there does seem to be a lack of quality at the moment,I wouldn't worry about it though, every team goes through that every few years until a new cycle comes again. Any idea's yourself why though? personally I think FIFA and Pro Evo Football on computers are having a crazy bad effect with kids playing ps4 instead of taking the ball into the street.
Its because kids over here play on a big field, where some kids dont even get the ball(backs, defends and something a right or a left winger) dont get the ball a lot which means the development isnt growing like it should since they dont spend enough time with the ball. There has been a suggestion about making fields waay smaller so everyone will have contact and ball possession.
There's only one dennis bergkamp, one dennis bergkamp, walking along, singing this song, walking in a bergkamp wonderland....has to be my favorite chant.
LEGEND. Best Dutch player I've ever seen, yet in the Netherlands he's rarely mentioned re: best players ever. IMO he was at least as good as Cruijff and van Basten.
He was the soul of an unbeatable Arsenal Dynastie. He is a legend, one of the greatest ever in football history. And I think it's not yet over. He might take over Arsenal in a couple years and lead them to great glory again.
Most underrated player ever. Probably the player with a.o. the best passings. Moreover he has no tattoos and is a decent humble person. He is put in line with Cruyf and Van Basten.
+jeff fay LOL wouldn't go that far mate, definitely one of *the* best but Messi, Maradona, Puskas, Zidane, Henry, Ronaldo, Maldini, Beckenbaur, Ronaldinho too many greats to list. All in the same category though fucking IMMORTALS
I don't know if this is what you're thinking of, but Stuart Pearce called him a "waste of money" when he arrived at Arsenal, and suggested that we should have signed Stan Collymore instead, "even for £1 million more". gossip.ladyarse.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/perace_berg.jpg
Bergkamp was able to flourish thanks also to Wenger to a mature player which reaps benefits til this day between Ajax and Arsenal...sorry Arsenal and Ajax! Him and Henry or today Sanchez, Özil, Carzola and .... (Giroud?)

A phenomenal player for sure. I think he's only behind Zola in terms of technique. Everton fan here so no love lost on Chelski but the man was a god.

No Arsenal fan but Bergkamp was an exceptional football player with an insane elegance in ball control and passing, scored some amazing goals too.
Best first touch in football history and the best attacking playmaker alongside Zidane for me. Real Madrid fan here
Greatest of the greats, we love Dennis Bergkamp
None over, none beside him, no question asked, number one player in ARSENAL history.
There's only one dennis bergkamp, one dennis bergkamp, walking along, singing this song, walking in a bergkamp wonderland....has to be my favorite chant.

Mikael Ortmayer YEAH haha, I was only exagerating, but Bergy is definately my all time favorite
jeff fay Fair enough lol. Was one our best. Though I liked Pires and Henry more.
Who was the chairman who doubted him?
If I'm right it's Alan suger who doubted him
I don't know if this is what you're thinking of, but Stuart Pearce called him a "waste of money" when he arrived at Arsenal, and suggested that we should have signed Stan Collymore instead, "even for £1 million more".
