Sarah is the original Christine (female lead character's name). She was also married to composer Andrew Lloyd Weber for several years.
For us Americans, you pronounced Tarja pretty good. One suggestion, don't compare singers, just enjoy what each brings.
Both Nightwish versions you plan on watching are awesome. Tarja and Marko kill it, so do Floor and Henk.

Well, half right. The originals were Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford. He played the Phantom for over 3 years and around 1300 performances beginning in 1986. That is the phantom I will always think of though there have been many since then.

Hi Debbie i think the next version you should see is the Nightwish with Marko and Tarja from back in the early 200s then the floor version but the Best Zangers version
Definitely not the version of Best Zangers, but the live version with Nightwish from November 2022!

the Phantom of the Opera musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber is an ongoing classic. Henk Poort was the singer who played the Phantom in the first Dutch production (and was allegedly ALW's favourite performer in the role.) Henk's background is in both musical theatre and legit opera. Floor was a fan from her childhood. When in 2019 the Dutch TV show "Beste Zangers" (Best Singers) reached out to Floor to participate, all they had to say was that Henk had already agreed to participate, and Floor was all over it. (BTW you should eventually react to all of the episodes eventually. Floor sings in multiple styles and languages each personally tailored for the week's guest. She regularly reduces her fellow singers to tears.) Henk and Floor have since become good friends, and he has appeared on stage with her several times in the past couple of years. But the Nightwish original cover of Phantom, with Marko and Tarja is EPIC!!
The Spanish (?) Accent sounds cool and different. I was surprised that Mr. Banderas can sing like that. Good, i heard it long time ago. He can dance and sing and Act..Boom. Really impressive. He could do Theatre too. Would be really impressive ! Imagine. It is and was a big Hit here in Europe. That's how i have experienced NW. Just because of the Phantom of the Opera. To be fair Sarah is very good. This is a pretty good production compared to some others which you can find on youtube and promptly skip over.

Sarah Brightman was at one point Andrew Lloyd Webbers wife. This song was written with her voice in mind, and I love Nightwish version, with either singer, Floor and Henks version on Beste Zangers comes closest to the original while keeping it relatively heavy. But keep in mind this song was written for Sarah's voice
I'm really glad to see your response to this. She is a.mezzo soprano. That high note is pretty much at the upper limit of her range... I love this! Antonio Banderas is amazing!

I love the A.L. Webbers version of the Phantom of the Opera theme... (there are several musicals, one of them is the Webber version) world wide there are many productions in several languages. I saw the version in Germany... em over 60 times and in the Londoner original around 20 times maybe ^^ Sarah here is the original cast of the character Christine in Lonfon. This video is the in concert version of A.L.Webber Birtday (50th I believe) I have the whole show on DVD. There they show parts of every musical A.L.Webber has composed until so far (e.g. Phantom, Cats, Evita etc) by the top elite of musical theatre stars in GB and beyond

So there are actually two versions with Floor & Henk. The first is from Beste Zangers 2019, The second is from Nightwish's Amsterdam show a few weeks ago.

I recommend a Spanish singer, her name is Diana Navarro. With the song " El perdón " She is a very versatile singer singing different musical styles with a very particular voice and incredible melismas. She always transmits when she sings. Best regards and I hope you enjoy

It helps to be married to Andrew Lloyd Webber to have a song written for you in your perfect key. Before this Sarah Brightman was a pop singer who had a British hit with I Lost My Heart To A Starship Trooper in 1978.

I'm always impressed when people do this song well. This is true musical theater. Floor does an amazing version of this too. It's cool to see how different people approach the same character.
Well, maybe this is not the best version but this is a good start ;-). Now you are ready for Tarja and Floor versions. Take a long breath before listening the Nightwish versions ...... they are like rollecoaster. 😎

Nightwish just performed this in November and have a recent band video available to see. Amazing. with Henk Port. Live.
So I just found out a couple days ago, that Antonio was originally considered for the Phantom in the 2004 movie! I think he would’ve done GREAT! That’s just me tho!
I am a huge Phantom of the Opera. I saw it in Houston and in Las Vegas when it went on tour. Probably one of the best Broadway shows Ive seen next to Les Miserables . There is nothing like seeing it in person ( the original cast) . Night wish version is awesome too. It is Andrew Loyd Webber's best music. This was good but you should see the original Broadway production. Great Reaction! Much love.

Both Sarah and her younger sister Amelia, are world class singers, and in top 5 of the greatest female vocalist ever, able to do more than one genre - in my opinion. They are not as versatile as Floor - nobody really is - but both Brightman sisters have phenomenal voice techniques, skills and talent.
Sarah were married to Andrew Lloyd Webber that wrote The Phantom, back then - so the role were built to her skills, so to speak - but newer versions are evolved - again in my opinion. The best one is Floor and Henk with Nightwish from November 2022 close followed by the Beste Zangers version - and then Tarja / Marko and also Floor and Russell Allen.
Very different versions - but still great in different ways.

Lloyd Webber's music is grandiose just like Nightwish, they are just heavier. If you want to hear Nightwish song closest to Broadway it is Pan from the new album. Phantom of the opera is a story that happens in the Paris opera house.
In this case the one who surprised me was Antonio Banderas I knew Sarah was going to be great.

You are not alone in having never seen "The Phantom". I also feel that both Nightwish versions of the song have also tainted my ability to enjoy the stage version.

Once you've become familiar with both Nghtwish singers' versions... just prepare yourself or an even more epic version.by Tommy Johansson (who has the vocal chops to sing both parts himself!)! Tommy did some arranging for Floor's early solo stuff...he's the guitarist for Swedish metal band Sabaton, in which, Floor's husband, Hannes Van Dahl is the drummer! Tommy also has a YT channel where he creates power metal covers of great songs...thats where you'll find his Phantom...

I am a Texan...and I am and always will be a "true" country fan (challenge me, I dare you), but I am also a metal-head (imagine that...incongruous to most people, but not as much as you might believe!). Metal is the very last bastion of true classical music composition left in 'popular music' in the world...and we all know it. Couple that with the clear fact that you seem to identify with metal, at least on the level that you've heard it so far, slowly crawling out from underneath your alleged musical rock? Prepare for "THE rabbit hole..." You're starting to gather enough fans now that we'll learn ya how, eventually, lol.

Let me put it this way ... against the version of Nightwish (no matter if with Tarja and Marco, or with Floor and Henk), this is like amateur league ....
The version with Tarja and Marco is a bit more dramatic, but I find the version with Henk and Floor somehow more harmonious (I like both though), with the latter duo the Beste Zangers version is closer to the original song than the NW version, which one I prefer to hear depends on my mood (both are great)
Well the singing is not comparable. I think Floor and Henk blow this out of the water. But theatrically this is good.
Funny you say that. What strikes me most in this performance is Sarah singing the notes, but lacks in acting. Antonio is a bit better, but both Henk and especially Marko are much more convincing as the phantom. But let us not compare the performance and just celebrate the different interpretations.

Technically, the stage version of Andrew Lloyd Weber's Phantom had Sarah Brightman cast opposite Michael Crawford first. The performance with Antonio Banderas was very odd. He has a very high voice, forcing Sarah Brightman to sing much lower - a very bad example.
Watch the movie. Watch the theater. You need the whole show to get the context. One song from it doesn't do the musical justice.
No , that is a boring Version , when you listen to the Versions of Nightwish or Floor and Henk Cover are both 100 % better
Debbie, as you can read …… “we” are not a fan of this rendition. Wait ‘till you hear Marko/Tarja and Henk/Floor ……. for me the Beste Zangers-version (2019). Also was the first time they sang it live on tv.

Btw.: for Floor listen to the "Beste Zangers" version first, for me thats better than her stage performances with her solo band and Nightwish because it has just a more special intimacy, or whatever it is.

for me this one is one of the weakest performances of the classical version (meaning: the musical version) of this song, mostly because i think antonio banderas is ruins the part of the phantom completely.
