Capitalism doesn't give a care one whit about the environment. It goes for the jugular which is the bottom line. To it to make money from the environment based on obeying rules to protect it is anathema. Its anger sends it to the nearest crooked politician to help it get around the rules, cut operating costs, and continue polluting. Many people working within this system may know it , not like, it, but decide to look the other way. All they see is their family has to eat. So the capitalist wins. But there comes a day when the bill for all this comes due. On this day the streams are polluted, forests ravaged, animal special made extinct or near extinct, food scientifically modified and sold to unsuspecting customers, and it continues. The earth will never see a shortage of people who live in it and don't give a damn about it.
