Yes, it's always beautiful when he's a softie. Even his gentleness with Louis after he learned he got mugged felt like a strong turning point. So much of Harvey's empathy comes in humor or anger, that by the time we get real vulnerability and joy, no matter how small, it's an enormous relief.

The way Harvey says that I loved, with pain (because for several reasons that are due to him they are not together) and as if it were a sudden and undeniable truth for him, something that is as part of him as the air he breathes, that acting not only makes me love Gabriel also that he creates all this and excites me, honestly it is incredible what good performances produce.

Rafferty was superb in this scene. "Why?" She delivers that one word so well. It might seem an odd thing to obsess over, but it stands on its own. Harvey has got nowhere to go, nowhere to hide. The scriptwriting for 'Suits' was so good, so much of the time. But the cast really made it sparkle.
This is Darvey's most emotional scene.
The turning point in their relationship: there will be no more flirting, games, jokes or innocent touches even after they manage to overcome this moment when both were vulnerable.

I could be wrong, but I think Donna may be the first person Harvey directly declared love for in the entire show. Not "people I love" or "I care about you.", but "I love you."

Harvey has inner issues that involves his relationship with her mother, which it is his hardest issue. He is afraid, behind of all of that cold shell in front of people, he is afraid close people leave him, mostly, the most special person to him.
up until that scene I never thought about Donna as love interest for Harvey. But the whole two episodes build up to that moment and culminated with this. I love this scene and whole build up. The way Harvey as lost his cool telling mike "she is different" & telling that lawyer he would cross any line 100 times for her and then this scene. Writers did an amazing job.

I'm watching the show and now am on season 8 where Harvey got angry at Donna because she lost faith and just had to come back to this scene. Their relationship has gotta be my favourite onscreen relationship and the fact that Macht and Rafferty have been friends for years makes it so believable. But yeah, this scene with that song = incredible.

Totally agree!! I’m constantly blown away by the intensity of his eyes and every facial expression. He uses his body (clenched jaw, eye movement, hands, stiff demeanor and walk) so well and so subtly to add such incredible detail and depth to his character. He conveys so much even without saying a word. It really packs a punch.

When Donna says "Why'" is she asking why does he have to leave or why is it different with her?
Cause the first time I watched the scene I thought she asked why he had to leave, and when Harvey answered "you know why", I thought he meant it like "yeah we have the rule that nothing was ever gonna happen between us so I'd better leave" BUT then I watched the scene a second time and then I thought that maybe she was asking why is different with her and that's why Harvey answered "you know I love you Donna"?

Wao, I love this analysis you've done, it's even more enlightening about the love situation of Harvey and Donna, and I think you're right. Because it makes a lot of sense, he can't stay any longer because he knows that something else, like sleeping together could happen, and that would only bring more trouble because the ruin in the sense that Harvey isn't ready yet, to mature emotionally by talking afraid of exposing her feelings because she understands that that will only hurt her, even if they are feelings for Donna, because she understands that by not being ready, she will have to push her aside and that will hurt her.
You made me doubt... I think she's asking about why he has to go, but he answers to the why it's different. However the "You know I love you" can be taken as an answer for both questions. An update, just saw the next scene where Donna claims Harvey to acknowledge what happened last night, he denies, she asks why and he says "because it would have been a mistake, and you know it", that means, he indeed was answering to the why he left. Still could be an answer to both questions.
I think when Harvey said the "with you it's different" and the way he looked at her, she was so surprised and shocked bc finally he was able to be vulnerable and open about how he feels about her and she felt the vibe of the moment. But then he went his typical route of denying himself that and wanted to walk away. And you can see in that moment she snaps back into donna mode and is like you know what I have enough of letting you back out of this, so she asked "why?". she finally forced an answer out of him. and then he said the answer as if it was the most reasonable, logical thing in the world. And she realised in that moment that it's not that he's unaware of loving her, but that he is aware and just too scared to act on it. And that's why she did what she did in the finale.

People hyperventilating about this ship don’t pay attention to the fact romantic words are used but actions prove otherwise. This ship wouldn’t last, proven by the many details throughout the series in which they betrayed each other. Especially Donna betraying Harvey. Not a healthy relationship in the slightest- which is exactly why they decided to just be friends the first time around.
