The second movie is going to have the entire town running around with holy water and crucifixes trying to take down the demon and they’ll feel bad for two seconds because they accidentally exorcised the wrong girl and then continue hunting the real demon like nothing happened, then the third movie is going to follow a new character who slowly loses their faith until they’re possessed for six minutes and then exorcised before the actual climax of the movie starts, and Ellen Burstyn will have no problem beating the shit out of Pazuzu in her kitchen.

That sounds better than what will probably happen. For the next film, there is maybe 10 minutes to be drawn from Cris n Regan reuniting, then how do they bring the demon back into play? I see sooo many more bad than good plots scenarios.
I can't wait for David Gordon Green's sequel where we'll hear the characters chant "Pazuzu dies tonight" at least once every half hour.
Or "DO IT!!!" when being killed by Michael.....

The lack of talent in Hollywood these days is scarier than most of the recent horror movies.

They don't need to be talented or creative anymore.
But talent isn't the issue, plenty of talent out there. The problem is arrogant greedy studio executives making stupid creative decisions, or rushing the talent/ FX. Also, studios need to actually make R rated horror full time again, given IT"S BEEN PROVEN to make bank. Not everything released needs to make $100M the first weekend.

I wouldn't say it was lack of talent. I'd say more it's the talent not being able to do what they want. Hollywood executives have FAR too much power and control over the story and that just destroys any movie before it's even begun. Shame.

I don't know what people were expecting from Blumhouse with this trilogy?? A Blumhouse trilogy that relies on callbacks & an over reliance on very safe storytelling? I feel like they did the same thing with the Halloween trilogy & it's frustrating.
I agree but the last Halloween movie was everything but callbacks & an over reliance on very safe storytelling. If that had been the whole movie, it would have been about Michael Myers.
going from house to house killing people. but no, they took the risk of throwing Michael aside and putting a new character in the lead like Corey. And quite a few didn't like it, they wanted to see more of the same.

People shat on Kills during the pandemic, so knowing it was the end & it would make bank anyway, they went down the H3 route. H 2018 was the safe bet, Kills was the slasher version more akin to the series, & Ends was last ditch effort to do something completley new with Ol Mikey included this time round

It's a movie. It wasn't like she wasn't invited to an award ceremony that she deserved an invite Lol. Do you realize how many bad films great actors have been casted to play roles? It never stopped them from being great actors or recognized as such.

Mike if you look at Kills, Ends, exorcist, firestarter you see a pattern. All critical bombs and we're co written by Scott Teems. Just something I've seen in the Blumhouse pattern currently.
Indeed. Firestarter is an abomination. It seems like they kind of read the book and watched the original, and then tried to do their best.

Many miss the very point that John Carpenter the one who created the Halloween franchise not only gave his confirmation but helped work on it.
I heard DGG’s next project is a sequel trilogy to Apocalypse Now. After that, he and Blumhouse have plans to requel Jaws 😆😂.

This film has a major "woke moment", when Chris MacNeil tells Angela's dad that she wasn't allowed into Regan's bedroom during the exorcism because she wasn't part of their "patriarchy". That was NOT the reason why she wasn't allowed into Regan's bedroom that night. The priests were the professionals in that situation, and Chris MacNeil was a frightened agnostic person who would have been traumatized watching the priests battle the demon. The two priests died exorcising the demon from Regan, and 50 years later, Chris takes a pot shot at them. What a load of crap.
I thought that felt wayyyyyy off as well. Wtf.

In my opinion Hollywood has run out of original idea concepts because back in 1973 nobody has ever seen anything like the exorcist at least in film never the mind that mental illness at one time was considered to be thought of as demonic possession

I'm guessing there will be a lot of unintentionally funny moments in this and audiences laugh at things that are supposed to be scary.
You can tell that the Filmmakers don't understand what the original Exorcist really is, which is a drama that uses horror elements as a meditation on grief. Friedkin directs in a very documentary-like style( the same style he used for The French Connection), but this new Exorcist feels too much like a movie, if that makes any sense. Friedkin immersed you in the reality of his premise, which made it feel like the situation was actually happening.
Brilliantly said 👏 original is a drama with supernatural elements whereas new film is a straight up horror film
Blumhouse has been a major disappointment for me for quite a while now.

I loved David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy. It had several missteps but I really enjoyed it overall. Most people like to shit on everything these days. I’ve seen several reviews who really liked it. Of course it would never be able to live up to the original. People need to stop comparing it to that. I’m going in with an open mind. I personally don’t find any movie scary.
I don't think everyone hates for hate the trilogy. The movies were well directed, but the script was awful. Especially in the middle chapter there was a lack of script.
I don't even like the original one that much. But damn if I do love the Rob Zombie's take and is my favorite. The script is bad, but is a masterpiece in comparison.
People HAVE to compare it to the original! It’s an Exorcist movie called The Exorcist! If they don’t want people to compare it, then don’t make the damn movie!

To this day, I still can't watch the original without having nightmares! Just hearing the music makes my heart rate go up. I'm so disappointed with the reviews of the new film BUT I'm still gonna go see it this weekend. Guess I'm a glutton for punishment...

That movie was definitely the scariest I have ever watched, by far, but then I decided to read the book and it scared me SO BAD that I couldn’t read more than twenty percent of it lol

As much as I loathe what Green did to Halloween Ends, the blame is shared with Jamie Lee Curtis. Remember, she pushed hard for stuff SHE wanted in Ends. So I blame her as much as him for why Ends became a shitshow. The only good out of that movie was Rohan Campbell and James Jude Courtney.

I'm going to finally say it: there will not be another movie like the first, because there is no way a 12 yr old child would be allowed to be depicted like that nowadays. It would be cancelled, and cancelled quick.
From telling the doctor to keep his fingers away from a very specified region, to vice gripping a grown man's nuts, to the notorious crucifix scene, to shoving her mother's face in the aftermath and making a vile demand, to objectionable phrases spoken from a little girl's mouth, to a working mother being depicted as responsible for her daughter's possession (employed, divorced, secular), to two men who sacrifice themselves to save the child of the working atheist woman, to a priest punching a 12 yr old, there's ample reason there will be no repeat of the original.
People seriously had way too much hope for this movie. After I saw the trailer I just was like "this looks exactly like every other possession/exorcism movie for the last like 25 years. I saw so many people getting so hyped up for this and I thought I was going crazy lol if this movie is really what these reviews are claiming it is then I'm very very unsurprised.

I feel like the WHOLE movie has been in the trailers and teases they've released... I kept peeking just because I wanted to see if it would REALLY feel worth it, I'm not sure how I'll feel about it.. my expectations are low because of how horror movies are just so thrown together now. With comparisons to the original, I feel like people are going to be INSANELY disappointed because William Friedkin wanted it to be a different type of horror... it was meant to be intellectual and psychological and as close to the devil as you can get. The story telling was just painfully a slow burn but the payoff was chefs kiss... BRILLIANT writing...David GG and team could NEVER .... Even looking at the makeup from the original , that's just UNBELIEVABLE talent and it was lit SO masterfully.. I'll still watch, it'll get seats in the theaters , they will make their cash because fans are curious but.. TRULY the ONLY WAY that they will stop pumping out what feels like Ai generated movie scripts is if we BOYCOTT the release day showing and just watch them later thru other means...but we won't, so we get what we get... It's really the fans duty to say NO to too many chefs in the kitchen, even David GG doesn't get all the say. I agree that I feel some executives were like "I like the idea of you doing another classic requel, here's some money.. throw in the ingredients and get our money"....
DGG should develop his own film to explore the themes he wants to explore… I’d be interested in seeing what he has to say this way. HOWEVER, I am running a little out of enthusiasm with his approach to established Horror classics where he winks and nods at us and then proceeds to beat the absolute shit out of us with his themes… I sure don’t hate his Halloween trilogy but the ol fast forward button sometimes helps get through the rough patches in them… maybe what they say is true… sometimes you can’t go home again… or maybe you can but don’t be surprised when your mom sold all your favorite things at the flea market…

Possession/exorcism have been just done the same so many times. Also if Linda Blair actually isn't in this movie as a cameo then she smartly made the right decision in not coming back.
Agreed about possession movies being overdone and samey. That said, Talk To Me was surprisingly effective putting a new twist on the subgenre.
I dont like the Blumhouse / Bumhouse anything treatments. I bought Halloween 2018 on Blu Ray and Watched Both Kills and Ends for Free Online Each , Ends actually on Peacock. Halloween 2018 I gave a 3 Out of A Booshty Ten , Kills a 2 out of A Booshty Ten. And Ends I gave a 2.5 Out Of A Booshty Ten. I m 53 Nowadays A lifelong Horror and Movie Etc Fan and These are only My opinions.
This is sort of like the opposite of Five Nights at Freddys
The movie feels and looks like they had some heart and into it. Because they have the creator of the games (Scott Cawthon) as one of the writers and the one to make final say about the movie. Which was why the movie was in devolvement for years. They also picked Emma Tammi because in a quote said by Cawthon "I felt she had a great understanding of the franchise, and really felt that she could craft something that would please the fanbase and keep people on the edge of their seats." They even got the Jim Henson crew to make the animatronics, which I think looked amazing.
Jason Blum thinks it'll do really well and there's talks of them maybe doing more. Also, the movie is around 1h 50m, not 3 hours. I hope we will get the spawn movie because Blum said that he's eyeing for a 2025 release.

What happened to that anthology Blumhouse put out a few years ago as a book? Dark City had some cool stories that would have been neat to see. Instead we're getting the same old crap again and again.
Jason Blum is the real menace here. David Gordon Green may be making the worst Blumhouse films, but Blum is the one who signs off on this shit. The man should be banned from aquiring the rights to any established film franchises. I don't care what crap he creates from his own little brain, but leave the classics alone!
The Exorcist is one of those that never should have been a franchise or had sequels. The fact that Exorcist 3 was so fucking good just ruined it for any other sequel. It should have just ended there.
"Satisfying final act," a reviewer said? Did he get off on the death of a little girl, dragged down to hell by demon hands? Did that "satisfy" him? Unbelievable. After this horrible defeat, the film then has the audacity to talk about faith and hope. Uhhhh... huh?

I may be one of the few who never found the original scary (not being either religious or a parent probably being major factors), but what it was was a film that was transgressive as all hell...can you even imagine a film today containing the masturbation scene? The Exorcist became famous for being downright shocking, and too many filmmakers and studios today are afraid to antagonize anyone too much. Maybe Ari Aster could do it justice, but there's just not a lot of bravado out there anymore.
Friedkin felt all the Exorcist sequels were blatant, mindless, knock-offs and weren't worth shit. I don't think he'd feel any different about this one, and an "in memorium" on this movie would probably be more disrespectful.

Do you think that the reason why an exorcist movie made in the current time period most likely aren’t any good is because the role of church in peoples lives? The time period when the original came out, church played a huge role in peoples lives and I feel that is why it was as scary as it is.
Yes and an underlying theme of the first film was the power and authority of the Church. That doesn't go over so well with modern audiences, so this film waters down the religiosity and, in turn, the power of the demon.
The people who restarted the halloween franchise restarted the exorcist, that alone should tell you where the movie is going

It’s so annoying when movie producers (and tv show producers) decide to bring back old characters just for the sake of marketing a movie they know is going to be a disaster otherwise. Especially when the trailer indicates said actor will be a major character and 90 percent of the time they end up being merely a cameo for just few minutes. That alone doesn’t make a good horror movie and it reeks of desperation because they know they made a shit movie.
This may seem controversial to say but I think David Gordon Green will officially be known as the Franchise murderer
