Watching this makes me wish I hadn't walked past the Navy recruiting station as a teenager. I am grateful that so many other men and women did not. Hats off to the men and women of our US Navy!
2:40 mark the Harrier. Is there a bigger external fuel tank n r inventor. Especially long & thin to not increase the weight dynamics much. The idea is to make the tank stick forward & back more to better bal the weight for safer hover. Any thing that gets as much weight center line & then goes to the perfect 50/50 split will help.
those Ospreys... wonder what the largest long range air to sea missile they can handle is? with a combat range of 500 km extending their amphib carriers defense radius that far would have a lot of appeal .their spec build fact sheet says 10,000 pounds of cargo. Norwegian Naval Strike Missile (NSM = 900 pounds RBS-15 (Robotsystem 15) is a long-range fire-and-forget surface-to-surface and air-to-surface, anti-ship missile. = 1800 pounds omahawk (US ) Land Attack Missile (TLAM) = 3,600 pounds in the case of the Tomahawk the Osprey as a delivery platform increases the typical range about 50% over the amphib itself.
It sounds like a purpose built tank for just the Harrier. The key is the 50 /50% perfect weight split is measured w/the tank empty weight. Adding the fuel will then not change the weight split no matter how much fuel is n the plans tank because it is mounted dead middle of the center line weight split of the plane both w/empty internal tank & then cked & fine tuned w/full internal tanks. The tank made need to get bigger n capacity or even a little smaller. The key is the special tank empty weight even to a small ballast.
When we commissioned the ship; Some people from the original Bataan death march were there. I remember doing a burial at sea ceremony on the maiden voyage to honor the fallen. I'm a plank owner. I can't believe it's been more than 20 years. It seem like only yesterday.

awesome Harrier action 1:05
The prominence this ship can carry is awesome. Need more of this type of capability
Robert Brockway A lot of countries are buying pocket carriers like the wasp class LHA
*****
I know, good defense investment.
Robert Brockway I know some countries are looking for an LHA. For example, Australia is getting 2 LHD's
*****
Correct.
Robert Brockway An LHD & LHA is becoming more popular for countries who want to get in on the carrier game
Dam these are very cool ships!

The longer the tank is the less effect the change n the fuel throws off the perfect 50 /50 split.
Just a quick glance give me the impression the external tank could b 3 or 4ft longer & then narrower not to change the lift load to much.
Cool
Better concept in Camberra Class or Juan Carlos Primero LHD cheaper and best projection..
This ship's name is bataan in phillipines were i was born (bataan province) i wonder why they named it bataan
bananabro 191 To honor the people who died on Bataan Death March
